Most of us on this site played WoW for YEARS and loved it UNTIL....we got burnt out and became jaded from that and OTHER games we've played as well.  You can't go by what forum sites say always....generally for that very reason.

Gamers who are more dedicated to their hobby as a WHOLE, and didn't just start gaming with WoW or have played many more games than just ONE....are often the ones that frequent public forum sites. Most of the people that PLAY WoW now have no idea that this site even exists.

    Just my opinion.

image QFT... and sadly, I am one of those jaded vets (although only played vanilla WoW for 1 year).

This is a cool post, Guile. I like this one and this one, also.

Half the users on this site do not even play MMORPGs, have zero interest in the genre, and post for no reason other than to stroke there own ego.

Do not use this site to try and judge anything. No, it does not reflect how the community feels. You answered your own question in your original statement. Utilize some common sense and you figure out where you went wrong.

Well how do I put this diplomatically?  Uhm....you're wrong.

Everyone (or damn near everyone) on this site considers MMORPGs to be their hobby.  Many of them (as you so astutely notice) do not play an MMO right NOW.  This does not, however, mean they aren't interested in MMOs.  This site is very heavy with older players (I don't mean only age-wise, but that too) who have played more games than just WoW.  Many have become disillusioned and jaded, but that does not mean they don't still love their hobby, want to discuss it and are looking for a new good MMO to play.

Using ANY.....ANY.....single site to get information is just stupid.  If you learned anything about research in middle school and up, you'd know that you never use ONE source for information.  That's just silly.  This site serves a purpose like all the other public game forum sites.  If you don't like what you see here....go to other sites until you find what YOU want to hear.  I think that's sort of defeating the purpose of hearing DIVERSE opinions, but if you're more comfortable having your opinion validated by others....you know....you can search around and have that happen.

I would bet that 8 million of those "active subs" have been long buried in a chinese landfill.

Well, I can say this about WoW... it has active subs.  It has more people playing than any MMO I've played since I quit and it has been 3-4 years since then and it still has people.  You can hate the game, but denying the quality and population doesn't make sense.

@ rojo 6934 those were troll posts don't pay no attention to that. But this however is a serious question.

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

What you are seeing are opinions, and typically a soured opinion has a feeling of needing to be expressed more.

I'll leave my opinion on the game out of this thread (even though the urge is strong hehe).

Because most people who like the game are playing and not posting, and most people who hate the game are not playing, but posting.

There will always be people who 'hate' something that has the spotlight.

Right now, WoW has the brighest due to its insane sub numbers.

Also, see the article in my sig. :)

I categorize this wow-question in two parts.

    1. First time MMO-ers that falls in love with WoW cause this is their first-time MMO experience, and hence swear by this game from hence on. This group loves WoW and subscribes because they are enamoured by the game far beyond reason, and reason can not be told them whatsoever....

    2. Pre WoW MMO'ers, that played WoW, liked it for some time, got bored, and moved on! These of course loves something entirely other which was their first time MMO experience.

And then you always have the exception that belongs to group 2, but ends up in group 1 as wow lovers (tsk...tsk... shame on you).

I'm in group 2 and started with MMO's back when shit didnt even have graphics and was a huge wall of text. Still think back to those days and love it. Anybody trying it now will probably think its shit, but back in those days in the early 90's that was the bomb, and shit like netscape dominated as browser....lol...... :)

Wow might not be completely stale, but it sure is boring and repetitive.

How come this game is still alive with 11 mil subs? Its the biggest sheep around, and many sheep will follow the biggest sheep mindlessly, its just natural, until the big old sheep gets old, crippled and cant be followed anymore it will stay this way. At least for the group 1's.

What games are coming out that can be the next WoW? I hope none! Been there, done it, liked it and got bored of it! After doing a raid for the X'th time and rolling for an epic with 5 others i just had to think to my self: Is this what life is about? The answer for me was no, and I moved on!

The game is still alive because while warcraft is a good game, no other company has done much of anything except copy wow/eq. If you have been playing for 6, or even 3 years .. you probably have 3-8 lvl 85 characters .. so you go play that other game cuz it's different but when you run into the same stupid boring endgame .. you realize that wow is just as good and probably still better .. and you dont want to level more toons .. especially in say RIFT .. where its all the same content from 1 to 60.

People say we are jaded, and while I wont dispute that .. the fact is the games have not evolved really .. since EQ1. Yes wow changed some things .. but the basic concepts are all the same.

Adding badges and easier to get loot or x-server lfg .. actually made things worse for a lot of us in the long run because they destroyed community. It's no longer important to be even 1% responsible for your behavior and or actions.

Back in vanilla someone ninjaed the eye from my priest back when the chest issues were rampant. He never raided on the server again in a meaningful way. Nowadays you can go out of your way, continually to ruin the experiences of others .. and then change your name or xfer or just use the LFD and still be near the top of the game. If I am jaded .. that is the main reason.

Even things that would have made life for you hard and still could aren't done anymore because everyone knows its a waste of time. Guilds splinter and reform the second something doesnt go their way and they carry on like nothing ever happened or xfer and replay the whole thing for another group of unsuspecting people. back in vanilla no one left a top 5 server guild unless it was for a top 4 server guild .. which was a problem .. but pebbles compared to what goes on these days.

Restrictions were a good thing. There were other ways to allow casuals into endgame. What has occured to the genre is hard to be excited about.

LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already :)

My friends seem to love doing dailies and getting rep for mounts, something I find boring.  Other people must love them too because there is a shitload of dailies now.  Another thing they love is getting Guild Exp.  Almost none of the percs seem worthwhile to me.

So basically, the game is still a gear grind with less grind (pvp or pve). All there is to do on the side is craft, get rep, get guild exp, and do dailies.  You would think after all these years WoW would have evolved but it hasn't.  That being said, WoW is still the most polished and fluid MMO on the market.  Nothing I have played since I quit can compare to the quality.  Still, I find myself getting more bored each day I play.  It's the same thing I was doing 3 years ago, just easier.

Pretty much why I quit last December.

It lasted a while, I had fun, but nothing lasts forever.

The people on MMORPG.com and similar sites are avid or hard core gamers. The vast majority of people that play WoW are not - so they dont care that the game is shallow or unchallenging.

Sites like these should vibe of facepalming above anything else. Since only die hard people who hang around these places are LOTR, EVE, and Darkfail nuts. Aka niche gamers who feel like the man is keeping them down.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

Good or bad WoW is not the same, And that is what's being discussed.

sorry man people have been saying that about WoW since their first patch. It's not just a WoW thing, people always complain about any changes to a game. EQ1, DAOC, SWG, Counter Strike,  just a short list of other games people have had that complaint about.

Generally you will see less fans of a game on this site than you will people that dislike it. Why? people who like the game are playing it, or they are on official forumns. People on this site are generally looking for new games (at least that's generally what I use it for).

The same reason why WoW is popular. The same reason facebook and farmville is popular. I'm tired of spelling it out.
