So ya, on the verge of letting another theme park level based game subscription lapse.
I was gonna log in but I thought:
I'm cap'd minus what i can get from raids which I am saved to for the week.
My character has only gear in which to aquire, since this theme park has no housing.
I have ton o gold but nothing to spend it on really, ah is kinda boring since im cap'd.
I have no energy to level another alt only to go through the same grind, to find the same elite guild to try to squeeze into a raid spot to roll on gear or dkp etc for.
I want Ultima Online 2.... bad.
Vanguard had it's chance. Even though it was level based, it had that feel. The world was huge, open, mysterious. Crafting mattered. Community was great (in-game).
I want to log in again not to just advance my characters gear or level, rather better/bigger housing, artifacts, rares, housing deco,... go hunt monsters for good item drops to put on my vendor or even the community auction.
I've tried to go back, tried some great free servers, but the graphics are just to dated these days.
I've tried mortal online & Darkfall. Mortal online was semi decent but felt underbudget, darkfall was fps fantasy that I couldn't get into.
Eve was fun for long time but the warrior in my wanted to trade in his Battleship for a good axe & animated avatar.
Why can't I win the lotto. I'd try to make UO2. It's really needed. Theme parks keep loosing me, specially when level caps raise n everything I worked for gets reset.
What about you?

Yeah i am sick of theme park mmos too. I want a good, free sandbox mmo or a one with optional PServers.
Would you PM me the VG server you played?
I was on Flamehammer before the first set of merges.
Then Seradon.
Was browsing around & I sadly think right now,
Elder Scrolls Oblivion might be the best thing right now till Star Wars ToR or Elder Scrolls Skyrim in november.... /sad face
no i meant which free server
Darkfall, Xyon, Dawntide, Mortal online, Archage ( not out yet ). Cant remember more. Check them, you might like it.
funny you should write that, it seems that Oblivion has become the "game of choice" for me over the past few years. I play more oblviion than any other game sans morowind. I have it on my computer and after playing it for 2.5 years I am on a break from it.

I burnt out on my themepark game after many years of playing. I actually went back to EQ1 and I'm having a great time. I'm not a super graphics snob so it doesn't bother me much. And after you get through the tough task of learning the UI it's actually quite fun. Not to mention there is more content than you can ever hope to see. I missed rare spawns that actually drop good loot, soloing that had some strategy and the feeling that I was in a massive immersive world (all of which lacked in the themepark I was playing). No handholding or required linear questing if you don't want to....it's great.
Or just get the Station Pass for ~$20 a month and play two non themepark games Vanguard and EQ.
Archeage which should be out in a year or two seems to be the best chance. All of the current sandboxes launched broken/buggy and for MMO's 1st impressions are everything. I think Darkfall 2.0 may have a chance if they do a wipe also, but it's competely PvP based. I was a PvPer in UO but what made the world so alive was that every kind of player was in one world, not just PKs.
Remember Old School Ultima Online
