Hello folks!
Since i can't post in Trion's official tech-forums with my trial account, i hope to find some help in here.
I bought a new 6950 2gb yesterday and tried switching off AA/AF in the game (7 day trial) and set it "ON/override application setting" in the catalyst panel. I've read that letting the driver handle AA/AF instead of the game's engine could result in a performance gain.
The problem is whatever i set the driver to, it does not override the ingame settings and AA/AF remains off ingame, though it's set to 4x and override in the driver.
Being a former nvidia user, i'm also new to the catalyst options and not quite shure about what is what.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Rift eats fps like a fattie at a cream pie eating contest.
I suggest just letting the application deal with whats needed I have the same card.
dont know your computer but on average it should be set like this for an ati
right clic anywhere on your computer screen select ati ccc
select: gaming: 3d app setting:
activate :use app setting
morphological filtering
af ;use app setting
tessalation use app setting
tesselation untic amd optimised
tic use app setting
catalyst ai: ihgh quality
untic enable surface optimisation
mipmap detail level to quality
wait for vertical refresh to:off, unless app specifies
anti aliasing mode to performance(multi-sample aa(this shouldnt affect game since you will turn off all aa in game)
morphological filtering will do the aa job from now on
you would use both at same time only on huber machine (2x6990 card would be huber )
that is it when you turn off aa in game and restart you should have a fair quality without it being a hog on your system ressource (computer)
if you do decide to activate aa in ati then make sure you unclic anti-aliasing (use application setting )
put slider at max and select edge detect
dont touch anything else and it should do soso(quality will be good but it might stutter since the higher the aa in card the slower it get!)
remember that when you use both and take lot of ressource and on average you wont notice the difference
only when you select adaptative multi-sample aa or supersample aa will you see max result
but you probably dont have the system to use those !one of those 2 and morphological
not many can do it yet
hope it will help!
I have a Ati 6970 2gig with a AMD Phenom x6 1100T Black Cpu overclocked to 4.0 gigs with 16 gigs of Ram.
I run rift on Default ultra (with AA up) over 60fps even during an invasion.
You have a similar card to me and if your Cpu or Ram is half of what mine is you could pull off 30fps default ultra easy...
Just turn the AA on in game... you will be fine.

i wrote af as app setting but you can untic it if you so chose,it rarelly affect fps!
If his ram was a fourth of yours he'd be running the same as you. CPU you could get away with the 965 and still have the same performance.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
ya game arent optimised for mare then quad core ,so quad tend to be faster and with the 970 avail for low money
it is a steal
Thanks for your replies everyone, esp drbaltazar for those detailed infos! Ii will give it a shot once i get home tomorrow.
BTW, i'm running a Phenom X4 955BE @3,8Gh, 4GB on W7 64. Playing on stock cpuclock of 3.2 i'm having exact the same fps and the respective core never gets to 100% load. (MainThreadCPU = 0 and process priority set to high).
FPS so far range from 35 to 45 in the starting area.
Dude your golden! Rift is one of those games that run like butter around 25+ Fps.
I dont understand it but it may have to do with that gamebryo engine they use, same as the one Warhammer uses it just runs wierd.
Honestly i dont think you would take that much of a hit by putting AA up in game.

So, i just gave it another try and i can't seem to override the ingame settings with the catalyst AA/AF at all. Morphlogical filter eats fps and comes too blurry for my taste.
However, i found another option worth fiddling with:
http://forums.riftgame.com/rift-general-discussions/tech-support/237630-alternative-edge-smoothing-aa.html
Game looking great and the performace loss is only about 2fps against AA off.
This is putting everything to shame Trion implemented AA-wise. Make shure to read the readme.txt for the ingame hotkeys.
Good luck!
