Stealth

Hey guys,

Just looking for some info on stealth classes. I saw that the scoundrel will have a stealth belt but what about on the Sith side, any stealthers on that one? I have just started looking into this game, cause overhype gets me depressed, waiting for too long, like D3.... So since I'm writing here might as well ask some more info, since I will not have time today to read on it that much. What about those specializations? did they say how it works? is it once you get to a certain lvl you can unlock that spec? Thanks for any info on these questions and about the stealth, I mostly looked at the bounty hunter class on Sith but nothing is said about stealth.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the Imperial Agent can stealth.

Aye, the Agent has stealth (you can even find videos of him doing it).

Also the Sith Inquisitor has a stealth as well (I believe the same is true for the Jedi side).

for the empire side both the imperial agent and sith inquistor have advanced classes with trees for boosting stealth. the advanced class for the agent is operative and inquistor's is assassin.  you make the advanced class choice at about lvl 10. they haven't talked ro much about it.  from what i have heard other people describe it as, it kinda of being like in WoW(haven't played either game so couldn't tell you). one thing i do remember them saying was things will have an easier time detecting you if you are coming from in front of them, that its not a full stealth but more like bending light(or something) around you. i think maybe kinda like predator

edit: the sith warrior marauder has an in-combat stealth but thats it for him as far as weknown currently.

if you wish to learn more about the classes and advanced classes, i recommend checking these out

It better be stealth and not invisibility.  Couldn't stand the fact that in Warhammer Online, not only could they stealth right in front of you and be completely invisible, but could do so while being attacked and even with a butt load of damage over time spells on them, it was utter bullcrap.

Not sure what you think the difference between the two is supposed to be.

From what I've seen, though, stealth looks like it works much like what you don't want. I'm not sure if being hit breaks it, though, all the vids I've seen only pop a character out of stealth with special detection skills.

And you're right, at least for the smuggler / agent classes, stealth should break on being attacked. For the jedi / sith classes, their stealth seems to be based on tricking the minds of others in the area; Which would make being damaged irrelevant unless it somehow caused the jedi/sith to break their hold on the people in the area.

Look up the definition of stealth versus invisibility and also look at it's uses in literature and you'll see the difference.  Stealth is NOT invisibility, it is far inferior and much more easily detected.  Stealth is more like camouflage.

And all that , although they preached over and over again , how stealth ruins PVP and that there will be no stealth in their game.

Harsh. I know the definition, but thanks for the advice. I also know that 'stealth' in the literary sense (as you seem to think of it) has never really been implemented in an MMO. AoC came somewhat close, but it's still invisibility. The closest thing to stealth as you seem to want it, is in games that don't have a stealth mechanic; where you actually have to be sneaky to get the jump on someone.

Also, keep in mind the IP. Stealth in starwars is, as pointed out, jedi medi tricks and cloaking devices.

Yes in TOR stealth is either an effect of cloaking devices or the force. That said it won't be as robost of a stealth system as what you might find in WoW and other MMOs. It's not as easy to be seen as AoC, but it's probably somewhere inbetween. So you have to be careful, if you come to close without attacking you will be seen. I'm actually kind of surprised they made it that difficult. Star Wars is the one IP where there's actually a fairly legitimate reason for being that stealthy. I'm sure you'd still have to be careful not to make noise, but in using cloaking devices or the force you are in fact effectively invisible. Combat does break stealth and I've heard that once you break stealth in combat you can't restealth during combat, yet it seems to me I've seen it done in some of the videos, so as yet I'm not sure which is in fact true.

Edit: Stealth Classes or Advanced Classes

    Smuggler

    Imperial Agent

    Jedi Consular: Shadow

    Sith Inquisitor: Assassin

Sith Warrior: Marauder (I'm unsure about this one, but I've heard they have a short term stealth ability)

Jedi Knight: Sentinel (I'm even less sure about this one, but since it's the mirror to the Marauder and if the Marauder does actually have a stealth ability it stands to reason the Sentinel will as well.)

For the Marauder, some of the automatically learned abilities are:

    • Juyo Form (a DPS stance)

    • Rupture (a dual saber attack causing a powerful bleed for additional damage over time)

    • Force Cloak (a very short duration combat stealth that can be activated upon killing an enemy)

the sentinel's version is called force camouflage and is mentioned in the same interview
