Jailbait iconic Posters... don't get them.

Hey, most of you guys are from the US, right?

So one of my corpmates in EVE got me some link on "jailbait"-jokes, and I don't seem to get them. When asking why they're funny (got tons of pages of them after googling for "jailbait" in image search) he said "Don't you get it?! Well you know, _I_ won't explain for sure"...

And really, I'm feeling extrordinarly stupid because, for f***s sake, I don't get the joke! Is it because of the harsh law enforcement in the US? Or because age of consent is so high (where is it anyways, 18?)?

Enlighten me, please, I hate not getting jokes, especially popular ones.

    It's because in the US you can go to jail for Statutory Rape for having sex with anyone under the legal age. The age itself varies from state to state but most places it's 18. Any girl under 18 that dresses and behaves in a highly provacative way is considered 'Jailbait' basically because she's 'Baiting' someone to end up in 'Jail'. This is especially true for those special girls that purposely go after much older guys.

    Riight, so in the US you can be convicted as a rapist (with prison and all the fluff) when you - say - date a 15-year-old as a 20-year-old? 

    I think I get the joke now... It was lost to me because in my country age of consent is 14 and consensual sex involving teenagers doesn't end up in court (and if it did people would get 12-months-on-parole, just a wild guess, the law here is ridiculously mild)...

    Well in a lot of cases the courts are pretty lenient here as well. The likelyhood of actual charges being brought against someone has a lot to do with both the circumstances and the age difference between the adult and the minor. A 20 year old having sex with a 15-17 year old is less likely to end up in jail time than a 45 year old having sex with a 15-17 year old. Also in most cases the charges are filed by the parents or legal guardian so if the 20 year old has the parents permission to date the 15 year old the less likely the 20 year old is going to end up in jail.

    Yeah good luck getting permission for something like that.  I can see it now...

    "Sir, I'd like your permission to bang your daughter"

    All you'd hear back would be a shotgun being loaded and cocked....

    No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    It isn't just jail time. It's also being required to register as a sexual offender for the rest of your life. That will require telling the police where you live, when you move and will limit where you may live too. It's the closest thing to being branded on your forehead with the letter A as an adulterer 3 or 4 centuries ago were.

    A guy in Ohio was caught urinating in public, and had to register as a sex offender.  When he got laid off and had to check in, they upgraded him to a class 3 offender because he was unemployed.

    He hung himself shortly after.

    This may sound a bit ignorant but I am going to just say it, the reason why we have strict laws like this here is because of christian views being shoved into everything. People say there is a separation of church and state but in reality it is not true.

    In other countries 14 is mostly the legal age of consent, some countries like Guam they have a law where a girl can't marry if she is a virgin, and the legal age or should I say average age of marriage for girl there is 15. So what Guam did was they got men who are hired to have sex with these girls so they are not virgins anymore, just so they can get married.

    So many countries have different laws, but importantly look at history and historical psychology. If you majored in psychology or even are a student of anthropology or the other human nature studies you will be familiar that humans have never had a consent age prior to Christianity. The other facts being human nature, before all this stuff a female who was able to menstruate was ready to start having babies and thus sexually ready. Only the term emotionally ready became imprinted on society by yet again Christianity. Humans evolved, we have historical evidence to know that the term emotionally ready does not apply. Once a girl is capable of having a child they are now ready for children.

    This brings me to my next fact, that humans average life spans just 120 years ago was about 35 years of age. Go back in time before this and the average lifespan gets shorter and shorter. 500 years ago you were lucky to live past 20 as an adult. Because of this we are far more superior today to deal with anything sexual if you leave it take it's course for young people to be sexually free. They learn, they are capable of everything. This is why many countries do not frown upon the age differences, lack of beliefs in this and keeping out the bonds that forced many to lose their human identity over the years.

    Keep in mind, I am merely pointing out a evolutionary and social discourse from human nature. We will never learn the truth of how it is to be really human, the more we evolve the ability to tear down our humanity. This is why I love historical psychology and anthropology, and archaeology. If anything we are evolving to devolve.

    Believe it or not it happens a lot more than you think it would. I think it has more to do with single parent households than anything else. A mother is a lot more likely to let her teenaged daughter date an older guy than a father would. This is only because a mother sees guys as a provider first and foremost wereas a father is more than likely to only see a horny pervert trying to get laid.
