Finally a Patch for VG

Finally a patch after a year... though few bug fixes but proves that VG is finally getting some love.

Awesome, this is some great news.  :)

It is a start... Hopefully will Smed give VG some people from SWG when it closes so they can keep updating it.

But I wait with the optimism until they actually added a few more patches, 1 patch every year or so is not enough to give the player value for the monthly fees, it will take some love.

Still, it is in the right direction. If they actually proves that they intend to keep patching the game they might actually get more than a few players back that left because the game got no attention at all.

Let's hold our thumbs, VG is a pretty good game. :)

It's not a lot.  But it's a welcome and logical first step; it means that SOE is actually paying attention to Vanguard again.

  • hcoelhohcoelho Member UncommonPosts: 529

i'm little bit more negative about it, even with updates.

I dont think soe will be supporting it for much longer. If they cared for real about this game it'd be much better by now. It's a shame since the game is so good, one of the best i ever played.

I'm hoping for a Vanguard 2. Maybe Arche Age will "be" it. But really a remake of Vanguard would be just perfect.

They gotta start somewhere.  (Re)estabishing a pattern of regular updates is a good first step.

As for "I dont think soe will be supporting it for much longer," you realize people have been saying that since launch, right?  Five years later, Vanguard is still here.  SOE needs it around now more than ever. With Matrix Online gone and SWG going, the value of the Station Pass/All Access Pass needs to be maintained.

Now, when EQNext releases... then I think Vanguard would be more expendable if the sub numbers aren't high enough.  But that's a solid two years away yet, at least, and a token effort can keep the game well above the vitality threshold for a long while. That threshold is really, really low for SOE.

SOE bought Vanguard for the simple reason it was a direct competior to Everquest 2 which is SOEs flagship.

Everyone knows if Vanguard was getting a lot of love it will flatten EQ2 and SOE can't have that, I really hope SOE understands now that Vanguard is the goldmine not EQ2.

    Continued patches +

    Continual bug fixes +

    Added content +

    Continued rise in population =

Me coming back. It'll take a healthy combination of all those things, but this patch is a nice gesture.

I think that Vanguard will be shoved aside for Everquest Next, I'm guessing EQN will offer everything VG does in a seamless world and more,so they wouldn't want it in the way of their flag ship. I think if SOE get it right nobody going to want to play VG over EQN as EQN looks to be what EQ1 players expected out of EQ2 and now use VG as their last haven.

Exciting day in Telon for sure

I might come back if they keep this up. It was just a bunch of bug fixes but hey thats better than nothing for the past 16 months.

I think there are people who would play EQ2 and people who would play VG. They have tapped the EQ2 market out by now. Perhaps they are looking to max out the VG market.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Good news for those still playing.

I had to see when the last update patch was and found it was Wednesday March 10th, 2010 if I am correct. image

But it seems more is going to happen to the game: SOE Fan Faire 2011: An update on Vanguard but perhaps this was already posted.

  • SigilaeaSigilaea Member Posts: 317

Notice the update is small, yet falls fairly close behind all of their "bad" news. They are probably in "triage" mode where they wanted to get something out quick to show people they are still alive.

god i hope so, while i REALLY like Vanguard its beyond any hope of becoming what it could be even IF they was to dump a ton of money into it.

their best option would be to take everything that makes Vanguard such a great game and put them into EQ Next with some things from the old EQ 1/2 eqoa games thrown in. like the AAs from eq/eq2 and or Mastery system from EQOA.also really liked the Epic paths eqoa had.prefered the Mastery system that EQOA had over the AA lines in eq2.

it is great news to see them atleast doing something with Vanguard finally, i have station pass i've been meaning to reinstall it to check it out again been a long time since i played.

I actually have to disagree with your logic.  I think that if VG were to 'flatten' EQ2, then SOE wouldn't have a problem with supporting it.  Its all about the profits and in this case VG or EQ2 is a tomatoe/tomatoe argument.  As long as one or the other is making money makes no difference to SOE.  Unless they have some vested interest in EQ2 besides the money making aspect.

I self identify as a monkey.

the patch of death....the last patch that brings in the bulldozers that tear down the servers once and for all ..not say but just saying...they havent done anything in years and now all of a sudden they decide to? odd very odd indeed

Odinsrath, Your post makes no sense.

Good to see them doing something at least.  Thinking about getting the Station Pass for EQ1 and VG...Sandpark power!

EQ2 is SOEs own baby, they rather feed thier baby even if it's butt ugly and stinks as much as possible then feed someone elses cute gem called Vanguard that might grow up and win Miss Universe, while thier own baby is contending in freak show.

    Better logic? image

You guys really need to get back into reality and stop floating around with Peter Pan in Neverland.

So which la la land do you hail from?

Vanguard will never be the game you want it to be nor will it ever get the attention you want it to have. Get over it and accept it for what it is now and enjoy it while you can.

I mean come on! There is only one populated server left! That's it! (the other EU server is dead and the last remaining few are transfering to Telon, just like I did two weeks ago)

EverQuest 2 is still succesful with a much larger population, a lot more populated servers to still receive yearly expansions and frequent Live updates.

There are many who prefer VG over EQ2, and many who will return to VG if SOE put in some resources, hell even half my old guild which I still keep in toutch with and playing LOTRO with will return in a heartbeat if VG gets some love.

I guess this is good news considering the last year+ of Vanguard, but it still is a surprise to see people cheering like this about a few bug fixes.

This game still costs $15 a month to play right?  That is still the industry premium fee for genre leading games right?

I'm really happy for Vanguard and hope things improve, because it really could be a great game.  At the same time I can't think of any other game going this long without any development and receive cheers for a few minor bug fixes.

I have heard all these stories in so many games for so many years. It ain't gonna happen. Ever.

Just like Final Fantasy XIV will never rebounce on PC.

Vanguard, after it failed misserably in the hands of Vigil when it released. When SOE took over, the game received a large experienced dev team and did a hell of job on fixing the game and making it actually stable and playable and after that added lots of content that was missing!

Did people come back? Was there an increase in population? NO!

Eventho all the work SOE put in the game in the first two years, it continued to decline, as people were just moving onto other "newer" games.

Too many MMO's launch each and every year... with lots of hype and lots of promise. And people continue to be burned and burned and burned over and over again.

These days, you got only ONE SHOT! And that's launch!  You screw up. You're done!  It's not the end 90's / early 2000 anymore! when you could count the number of MMO's on one hand.

No matter how much love SOE would suddenly put into Vanguard... it won't ever rebounce!  It's too late and many new MMO's on the horizon about to launch where everyone will flock over to.

  • Daffid011Daffid011 Member UncommonPosts: 7,945

That isn't entirely true.  DDO and Lotro both had significant turn arounds and grew after their revenue models changed.  The jury is still out on a few others like Hellgate, Gods&Heroes, APB, etc.

A lot of things went into those two specific games either turning around (DDO) or growing (Lotro).  They are both pretty good games for what they set out to do and so is Vanguard.  Most other bad releases are hopeless, because they are poor games to begin with.

Not that I think Vanguard is going to turn around or a few patches will turn the game around.  People generally don't care enough to come back to an old game, because of a patch.  An expansion, change in business model, switch of ownership or something else that might make headlines could get more people back, but that isn't very likely here.

If MMO's only got one shot, then EQ2 shouldve died after release already. Even after the extra work they put in, it wouldve died now if EQ2X wasnt released. So you could see EQ2X as 3rd shot already.

A lot of players love Vanguard, but dont believe that SOE will improve it anymore. If they did, Im positive that many players would return to Vanguard. No one would claim it would be millions of course, but enough to keep Vanguard alive and profitable with steady updates. If Vanguard only would receive as little attention as SWG got last couple of years, then more people would start playing it again.

Im just one of the ppl who think that SOE wont do this. Because they already do that for EQ2(X). This still doesnt have to mean that SOE will pull the plug on Vanguard. They need variety in their station portfolio now more then ever.

I understand what you getting at and I agree on it, VG will never be a blockbuster with millions of subs, all I saying is, if SOE gave VG some love it will be profitable and justify maby a expansion.

With all MMOs of late they fail left and right due to trying to do the WoW model, only one game succeded in WoW model and it is WoW.

People are getting sick and tired of same old easymode themepark Special Olympics game design, gamers might and some will try out VG if SOE put in more resources.

TOR is just a WoW copy, only thing they have it going for itself is all is voiceovers, rest are same old same old, follow the arrow to that big yellow circle on the map and kill 10 sandpeople, dosent matter how epic the quest sounds with voiceovers it's still same crap, it's prolly easy to level up in aswell beacuse like the new kids says, the real game starts at endgame.

ArcheAge might be the next VG, and I don't hold my breath that EQ3 will go back to oldschool model, they will like the rest of the dumb developers trying to beat and get a piece of the WoW cake.

Only game i see on the horizon that are trying to break the mold is GW2 and that game CCP is working on, Darkness something.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
