Graphically this is old but it's still a better game:

What?  You think I like to play games with my wallet?

I thought the community were still blockading Jita?

    Can you try again please?

So I'll ask agaiin: Where's the better Sandbox MMO (that people can't play by buying gold ammo and ships).

Sandbox? MO isn't Sandbox, MO is a medieval PvP deathmatch, it has no sand and that's why people get bored with it quickly.

Um buying clothes in EVE is not playing with your wallet lol.  Nice try tho.

    They're still devleoping UO... right?

You try harder - seriously what u got?

    UO and EVE  lulz

It wasn't my choice.  Reading would help with this.  I clearly stated UO was far more developed in the same development time as MO.  Again, reading would have helped you out there as well.  We don't need to try harder, we don't even need to try.  Both of those games have more subscriptions than MO.  And yes, that's what makes it so funny... Ultima Online is 14 years old and has more subscriptions.

Money talks.  Generally most gamers play good games.  Use some deduction and figure out what MO is.

Just because there isn't anything better at this time, doesn't make it worth my money.

It felt appropriate to say :).

    Which one is it please?

I played on 2 accounts from closed beta to about 4 months before dawn then came back for a month after dawn.  Henrik has been saying since Beta they are working and fixing AI.  The EPIC patch was touted as the fix for AI.

So he really really means it this time??  Stop saying they are working on AI like it will be out next week.  I do not know how many times that has been said since the inception of the game.  "we are working on AI"  so this time it means it amirite?

You completely ignored my post. Thanks though you just made yourself look ridicules. Not only can you not read but you ignore facts. I logged into EVE last night and it had 42,000 people online. MO would love to have 40k subs period. Also, as stated before UO is 14 years old and still holds more subs then MO. Kind of sad if you ask me. I recommend that next time you don’t ask a question that you don’t want an answer to.

But again I did resub to MO for a month just to see if the game had any progression from the last time I played it (which was shortly after release.) I’ll be able to make up my own opinion after a few hours of play but honestly, I’m not expecting much.

Also, since you brought this up, yes UO does still recieve development. It don't to long ago even had another expansion.

Lets be honest, Minecraft is more of a sandbox than MO.  You can fanboi all you want about what a great sandbox it is because you cant buy gold but is MO really any different when the GM's are involved in a new scandal every month?  When they will teleport their favorite players to items in the game and kill any player attacking their keep?  I'd rather buy the advantage than have to kiss a GM's butt to get on their good side to have the best stuff.  At least if everyone can buy gold it puts gives you the option.  Playing favorites does not.

Lets talk about the AI, how can you justify it being broken for so long while they implement another broken system like food where raw pig meat is better than anything you can cook?  Why even have cooking if there is no use to it?

Again, lets be honest, this game is doing terrible.  Staff have been let go, the stock had been diluted and even after the big Dawn expansion, the stock price is at rock bottom.  Its so bad that the Community Manager is asking fanbois to come here to MMORPG to try and get people into the game.  Seriously, thats a last ditch, scrape the bottom of the marketing barrel approach.

I understand you like the game and you really want a sandbox to play in.  I honestly feel bad that this is the best offering out there for you and wish you had more of a choice.  I would recommend you jump back into the game and play it as much as possible before it closes up shop.  Trust me, we are not that far off from the day they shut this one down.

Indeed. Brag all about how 'sandbox' MO is (and DF), but Minecraft is more sandbox then these 2 games combined. And in my opinion more 'MMO' and 'RPG' then most MMORPGs on the market at the moment.

Actually you can buy gold, I remember at realease I think it was, there were a few players selling gold.

The only reason you can't buy gold is because of how small the population is ! when you have 200 people playing at prime time, of course you're pretty sure to get busted, and regardless gold sellers need a large playerbase to hope for anything, they don't even care to try.

But trust me, if MO had as many playing customers as WoW, it would be swarmed by gold farmers.

..Bro, is this your first month in MO? If you had been paying attention to Henrik, you would feel different about this AI running gag by now. What did he blame last time for not being able to implement AI by the way? The earthquake in Japan?

I don't know if you were being funny or not about the earthquake in Japan, but I recall when they actually blamed a volcano in Iceland or somewhere, for not getting the engine fixed, or patched or something like that :)

yup, back in Beta they would keep throwing the "this is beta" excuse all the time, then after release they would say "its just released which game was perfect on release?" but as time goes by they are running out of excuses so of course it only gets more and more pathetic...

Yes. Henrik did blame the "then current" problems in MO on a volcano erupting. It was sometime last year if Im not wrong and that volcano had one hell of a tongue twister name to remember right.

That volcano eruption DID throw most of Europe's flights into lockdown but the fact of the matter is that Henrick once again did full back to back circles on giving out correct and factual information regarding MO, like the good ol` used car salesman that he is.

He first gave out an early snippet of how the patch was in progress and led to the assumption that the "April-patch" as he called it would be available that April. But as usual SV failed to deliver and being the oppurtune snake oil baron which he is, he used Mother Nature as an excuse and blamed the (then current) buggy mess in MO on a volcanic eruption.

Google Search to the rescue: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/277122/page/1

Thereby making MO the first game in MMO history to blame its failures on a volcano. *golf clap*

FYI, this was NOT the #1 Hall Of Fame SV moment, in the category for Excuses-and-Excuses. Best one ever was where the servers were taken out for an extended downtime and livid players were told that they couldnt do anything while Henrick was gone out since he had BECOME AN UNCLE.

Yes thats right, the world of MO can be brought to a standstil everytime Henrik has a neice or nephew.

Sadly I cant find a link to this one, so if anyone can chip in with the link it would be great for a good laugh...but I wouldnt be surprised if "that" mod applied pressure on mmorpg.com to have the thread deleted.

This is the type of intentional exaggeration and misinformation that constantly plagues this forum.

SV cancelled a House of Commons chat - a monthly IRC chat -  because Henrik became an uncle.  You are lying to the community here in claiming that it had anything to do with "extended server downtime".

The link you're looking for is here - the one that proves you are deliberately giving false information.

Ah I see. It wasnt an extended downtime but a cancellation of HoC. Its hard to keep track of which problem MO faces during which month, especially since old bugs are constantly brought back with new patches and server downtimes soon follow with most updates.  But worry not, MO's loyal forum crusaders will always show up to put the record straight and then some! But you got to admit, thats one hardcore excuse to use while cancelling a scheduled meeting with customers (playerbase). It still deserves the #1 spot in the hall of fame in the excuse category, in my humble opinion. But do you think that Henrik was NEEDED when he was becoming an Uncle? Like was he playing the role of the midwife or somesuch...

By the way, how is the HoC working out in MO? Does Henrik still nitpick and choose the safe questions instead of answering the ones put forth by players like Raknar? Does he still play safe instead of coming clean and admitting to what hes doing wrong in MO and how hes going to rectify it? Have you guys gotten any HoCs this month? If not do you think he is becoming an Uncle again without letting the community know?

I seemed to have made a mistake with mismatching one of MO's numerous extended server downtimes to Henrik (SV's CEO) putting off a scheduled meeting with his paying customers on account that he"became an Uncle". My bad, but you dont need to jump down my throat for a small mistake...take a deep breath and relax...

Now how about giving me a link to the Mount System video clip that Henrik promises and NOT a slideshow with captions like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpRWt1BoniI

Great mount system huh? From what was posted pre-dawn and what the players actually got (like the jumbo pony) it wont be wrong to say that,

This is the type of intentional exaggeration and misinformation that constantly plagues the MO forum.

Just like Tindrem at release. Navmesh. MO2.0 (twas it IRC? close enough).

Hehe, don't forget that by the time that video was released, the Dawn "expansion" was already supposed to be out.

Not to mention, everyone was asking SV to finally release the video with the new mount animations and blah that, according to SV, was already done. And horses are still 5 meters high, aren't they?

  • deathshrouddeathshroud Member Posts: 1,366

only bull horses are unbelievably tall but thats becasue they are supposed ot be. they will get their own system seperate to the current horse system to better reprresent thier physical characteristics at a later date but for now palyers must make do with silly looking bull horses :(

    @ Rainbringer:

You really need to do better than that if you want to have a meaningful discussion..

I included a link to the wikipedia article detailing the disruption of  air traffic after the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull and the best you could come back with is "sometime last year" and "one hell of a tongue twister name"  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_travel_disruption_after_the_2010_Eyjafjallaj%C3%B6kull_eruption

I am sorry for not giving a link to the volcanic eruption for a wiki article or giving you a gist of what happened "sometime in the past" which has absolutely no merits with the life of MO on the long term. I saw that you had already given a link to the volcano eruption but said nothing whatsoever about WHY SV blamed the volcano. That was what my post was about and if you think I dint do better at explaining the situation then you might want to read that thread (posted the link for your convenience) and ironically you being one of the staunch defenders of SV in that thread, did not even say a single word about the PR messup that led to SV blaming that volcano with that hell of a tongue twister name (sorry I cant pronounce that name, dont hold it against me).

Should I remind you that posting same links over and over about the volcano disrupting air traffic (like you have posted twice already and are suggesting that I should do too, right?) and personally attacking me instead of what I posted (WHY SV blames a volcano) is against forum rules? By all means, lets have a meaningful discussion over WHAT SV/Henrik did instead of resorting to focusing on irrelevant phrases (like the ones you think I 'came back' with) and derailing the thread.

I will ask you the same questions I asked Rohn, if you are legit and not a troll/shill/blind fanbot please answer me these truthfully since I am posting here regarding MO and not whether YOUR post did better than mine:

FYI, when I said "players like Raknar" I meant the people who are paying for MO and are unsatisfied by the constant letdowns and false promises they are getting. I myself see a LOT of promises made by SV but hardly anything much to back it up with. If you want I can list said unfullfilled promises but I dont want to create a wall of text 10 to 20 paragraphs long without having the dire need to...you get me right? Moreover, its not the thread to discuss that.

Please stick to the topic Osmunda, since your last two posts have nothing relevant to show the readers regarding SV or MO. Also please dont go posting wiki links to the earthquake in japan and stating how earthquakes can disrupt travel in affected regions...Im getting this wierd feeling that you are again going to ignore the actual topic, questions that I have asked and points that I have made and attack me with some senseless bit of trolling and baiting, come on prove me wrong Osmunda.

Starvault has planned and previously announced developers flying to meet with Epic  games programmers in the US in April to work out some problems with the code. A volcano disrupted most air travel in Europe, delaying that trip. The "PR messup" was not giving daily updates on details of the change in travel plans in an uincertain situation.

I am not suggesting you post a link to wikipedia, I am suggesting you read the wikipedia article. When the information is provided and you still refer to "sometime last year" and "tonguetwister of a name" it implies that you think the facts are irrelevent.  When you dismiss the difference between cancelling a IRC chat session and the server being down, that also displays a cavalier attitude towards the facts. If someone wants to spend time with their sister (or brother)  and their  newborn child, I think that is sufficient reason to skip a chat session.

Please stick to the topic Osmunda, since your last two posts have nothing relevant to show the readers regarding SV or MO.

This thread hasn't been on-topic since post #15.  The topic is Raknar and Henrik's discussion of the food system any discussion of SV or MO that doesn't touch on that is off topic.

This thread probably needs to get locked
