It may be a massive multiplayer online rpg but it's not a massively multiplayer online rpg. There are already a plethora of non-MMORPG's on this site anyway so there isn't any reason not to add Diablo 3 too. That's a terrible reason to add it. Just because there's games that aren't quite MMOs listed as games on this site, isn't a reason to add more, that just bogs the site down with even more irrelevant and out of place information. The non-MMO games should be removed from the site, or in the least not labled the same as actual MMORPGs and moved into a 'quasi'-MMO subsection of the site.
Is the point of the website to show "MMORPG only, based on a strict definition" or to show "Things that players of MMORPG are interested in and want to know about"?
If it's the first one, then there are many games that need to be removed and many articles that should not appear on the site.
If it's the second one, then adding Diablo 3 is not out of character for this website.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I put no because it's not an mmo. But, if you are gonna start adding rpgs then yeah I'd love to see a forum here for it as well as Skyrim and some of the other rpgs. I'm definitely getting D3 and Skyrim. Currently I'm dabbling in 2Worlds 2, and I love the GTA games and Just Cause 2 is pretty cool also.
Infact I wish there was a site like this that discussed real time strategy gaming. I used to read two gaming sites, this one and Gamespot, but Gamespots makeover sucks so I've been trying to find a new gaming site that covers general gaming news.
I'm slightly confused, everyone considered D1/D2 an RPG.. now that the arguement to bring it on this site is here.. D3 is not an RPG? You're roleplaying a damned barbarian against the hordes from hell.. hello? Seriously go look at online retailers or even other game sites.. let me know what genre D3 is listed under.
Exactly. This seems lost on some people. Although, as I said before, I don't really care if they add it or not, but it would be right to be CONSISTENT and if one RPG is going to get added....so should the rest. D2 LOD Online was never considered an MMO, and really....D3 shouldn't be either. But....c'est la vie.

As it is now, and particularly if Diablo 3 is added, then the website is essentially showing "MMORPGs, and anything loosely resembling an MMORPG because it has a few things that MMORPGs have".
The site is already more and more becoming muddied with articles about games that aren't MMORPGs. If that's truly what the people in charge of this site want, so be it. But at least they should do us all a favor and drop the MMORPG.com domain, because this site is becoming less about MMORPGs and more about online gaming in general.
If however, they want the site to be one of the leaders in MMORPG news like it used to be, then they need to reign in the scope of the site. As it is now, when I come to this site I have to weed through articles that have little to do with full MMORPGs, just to get relevant MMORPG news. If I go to Massively on the other hand, every article is relevant.

This site is supposed to be for MMORPGs, not RPGs.
Diablo 3 is not an MMO.
Heck, Diablo arguably isn't technically an RPG, it falls better into the action category... but I'll compromise as saying action RPG.
You'll be opening a can of worms if you add it I think. Borderlands is practically the same thing except as a shooter so would you add that (and other similar games) as well?

You're arguing against someone who is saying it's not an MMO, Ceridith? I don't get it. I understood him as being on the side of NO, D3 should not be included. You understood him to be arguing FOR it's inclusion? O.o
Maybe I misunderstood him, but....an RPG isn't an MMO. I kind of thought that was the point he was making, but maybe I'm wrong. lol
It's multiplayer, it's online, it's an RPG, it has crafting, it has an AH and economy, it has PvP, it uses skill based/action bar combat, it will grow with expansions and downloadable content for a long-term, persistent existence.
The only thing it DOESN'T have are social gathering places (towns/cities), because it uses Battle.net to achieve this.

It isn't massive. Hundreds of people cannot be on your monitor at the same time fighting or talking (unless it's in the lobby chat room....weaksauce). It an action RPG that requires online play just like Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction online did.....and that's not included here EITHER.
It does not belong. But....who REALLY cares? It's just a list of games.

If I have hundreds of people on my monitor in WoW, it's an indication that the server is going to crash in a few minutes. WoW is an MMORPG.

We used to have fights that big raiding Ironforge all the time and RARE was a server crash. Not saying they never happened, but maybe TWICE? That's massive. Cut it down to 100 if you like, for the purpose of an example. D3 has groups ....co op groups to play with. I believe you can have either 16 or 32 (it's been ages since I played D2)....either way....

They'll have 100,000+ messing about in the Auction House. You won't see their avatars, but that's just a difference in interfaces. They will be online, and they will be interacting.

That's a lobby type interface. By that reasoning GW1 should also be considered an MMO, but even it's developer does not calle it an MMO. Yes, we have it on this site, because....like I've said 3 or more times now.....who cares? It's a list of fucking games that MMO players might be interested in. Does D3 belong.....technically NO. But does it fit with the stuff that's already listed in the games list.....YES.
Now I'm done arguing this stupid argument. D3 is NOT an MMO....Blizzard won't even call it that. However, I don't give a rat's patootey if it's listed in the games list. Why care?????
No. Online-coop doesn't count as an MMO (the 'M' stands for massively by the way....have people forgotten that).
No no one has forgotten that, that's not the point. The point is it seems as though MMORPG.com wants to expand on what they cover. Which there's nothing inherently wrong in that, as long as it stays in the realm of what may interest their readership. You're not their sole reader, there are many who may want to read about D3 or other similar (to the MMO) functioning games.
If you don't want to read about them or visit a form section devoted to them, you don't have to. How does it's existence effect you?
To SB fans, please stop making our demographic look bad.Stop invading threads that have nothing to do with sandboxes.
In case you add Diablo 3, i'm curious to see if you add Torchlight 2 as well!!
I guess in the end it won't be us players, but Blizzard will vote -with its wallet.
The fact that Diablo3 is getting a poll while Torchlight 2 does not is already speaking for itself.
GREAT POINT.
Not really considering they've already said if they would add Diablo3, they will add other games of a similar variety that are of equal interest to users.

Some people do care, which is why we're leaving it up to you guys.
With that said, thanks for all the feedback so far everyone! We are reading.
Also, and yes, we aren't going to add every dungeon exploring game out there just because we add Diablo 3. We'll add just about any MMO, but we will be more selective of games outside of that realm. We also won't cover every story regarding these games, but we'll hit the major-ish ones.
At this point we're open to games that share a lot of similarities with MMOs and are of significantly high interest to our readers.
People are just going to hate, lol. There is no real reason why it shouldn't be here aside from the fact that for some reason people hate a company of which does not affect them. If it was torchlight 2, this conversation would not be happening. That is the type of community that hangs around here.
Quite the contrary. I'm a huge Blizzard fanboy. I have loved every one of their games. But I'm not going to blindly say every popular online game belongs on this website when it clearly doesn't fit the genre.
Fact: D3 is not an MMO
Fact: D3 will be extremely popular
Fact: Adding D3 to this website will generate lots of addition site traffic regardless of if it belongs.
I'm sure you can do the math, but I will point it out anyways. The only reason to add games like D3 (or LoL since its here for the same reason) is to get more people to visit the website.
