You see, in a MMO like WOW or Everquest or LOTRO or GW... dumbess or meaness isn't so bad. You just go kill mobs. What bad can happen? But here, in a MMO full of story, decisions and possible spoilers, HOW can we play? I mean, I recently watched some leaked videos of group play, and OMFG some people are SO DUMB.

Like, imagine, you play story X, and some dumb bloke spoils the end, like "ah no matter in chapter 3 NPC X is going to betray you anyway. ha ha". Or you REALLY feel like playing good and this mean guys always chose dark side, no matter what you try, and yes you may get your light points, but the ENTIRE questline now this "Captain" is dead. End of story.

There are just SO DAMN MANY possibilities I can think of where being dumb or mean can just so ruin my gameplay. And that really makes me afraid of what can be.

    So, what you think? image

    Play by yourself.

Aside from that, I assume that there will arise the notion of "story-consious" groups.  The same way people lfg for "quick group" others will "lfg for story grp" or something like that.    this assuming that BioWare doesn't do what it's done with loot and ttake away all player choice in who you group with.

It is a fair question given the dark/light side choice aspect. I guess I'll go with the ''PUGs are bad mmkay' philosophy.

Ignore it if its not bad enough to ruin the group run, or a slight inconvienience.  I'll leave if it gets to dramatic or overwhelming.  If im solo, /ignore

I find ignore works well in most situations.  In every game there are going to be arguements and disputes but its how you handle the situation that helps it out.

You don't, you ignore them. In everything you get jokers, you learn to filter them and you'll be fine.

I fired up Fallout New Vegas last night, thoroughly enjoying the run i had and thought KOTOR! I should fire that up for another run through, then thought, ToR is going to absolutely suck in this department for so many kotor fans for the exact reason of your thread. I love mmo's for what they offer and i love single player games for what they offer, AoC is a perfect example of they don't mix.

Some JOKER is always going to be there, being themselves and completely oblivious that to the rest of us they are just f'in things up for everyone. These people don't have any clue they are like that which is the most amusing part.

I've been listening to some mmo podcasts and I've heard over and over from many Bioware and KOTOR fans in these casts saying they are there for story f everyone else? They know this is an mmo i hope and with them jokers are a plenty.

Totally sitting out for a minimum of two months and at that point i may or may not pick this out of the bargain bin. If you actually analyze the distinct player bases this game is going to fail for each selective group.

Once the mass exodus is over you'll most likely be left with the Bioware / KOTOR fans, and then and only then this game might be bearable enough player-wise to enjoy, game-play that's an entirely different matter.

Sigh not again.... do you really have anything original to say because you make such baseless assumptions that every post of yours is just like the last one you wrote. You went totally offtopic considering that was not what OP even talking about.

You know it surprises me that you talk as if you're a long standing MMO player, yet you sound as though you have no one to play TOR with, that tells me you've never taken part in a community and do not belong to one.

Long standing MMO players typically have a group of gamers they run with, I've had one since 2003, I play just about every MMO I've played with them. The stuff you just described has no effect on my gaming, I know the people I game with, which is why I have no use for Gen chat, or pugs etc...

Let me retract that first line of my post. I guess by your attitude it doesn't suprise me you have no one to game with.

I would say if you're worried about spoilers turn off general chat - assuming there's a way to do that.

I know I'll be doing that, I'll run heroics and flashpoints with my guild and forswear general chat like I do in every mmo I play.

I would like to hope that being on an RP server would at least partially correct this problem, though there's always people randomly trolling in RP servers.

... but RP players tend to take the story a little more seriously, at least.

I actually suggested in another thread that games need meme/asshole servers, where if somebody either constantly spouts memes or is an asshole in chat, you report them to a GM, a GM checks the logs, and banishes them to the appropriate server if necessary.

It would be like being in the worst kinds of hell if you got sent there, but it would tidy up the other servers at least.

That's what i was mentioning above, there's always going to be a Joker (or two), just gotta learn to ignore em. RP server's i find do weed em out better as they don't get the attention they crave from the more mature crowd, they'll usually move along after a spell.

    1) stop reading TOR forums right after the launch - recent MMOs have shown that official forums are mostly used for QQing just about everything, which can be game breaking

    2) keep my ignore list up to date and ignore general chat altogether where and when possible

    3) I'm lucky to join the game with my old guild mates who are all very nice and mature persons, so I most probably won't PUG much

    4) use ad hoc measures to be able to enjoy this game.

My post may seem very pessimistic but sadly I have got burnt too often during recent years.

Well said basically mirrors my plan for TOR in all points.

I think this is an idea so brilliant that it should be suggested to all developers as a means of cleaning up their communities.  Brilliant I say!  I also think that after their 3 day banishment (or however long) they should be given the option of STAYING on the douchebag server where that sort of behavior is expected and tolerated by all.  Who knows?  They might enjoy playing together and it would solve multiple problems.  if they want to go back to the regular community...they could also do that.

I can already hear someone bitching, "But that is making morality decisions for people."  No....that is an attempt to corral people into having common courtesy.  I'm not saying that if someone says "fuck" they should get banished to the other server. I'm saying that if someone is griefing they do.

    Just my opinion.

Yeah, I had it as a 'temp ban to server' so they can still play the game (Rather than a ban where they bitch that they can no longer play), and hey, they might discover that just hanging out with people cracking Chuck Norris jokes is the best MMO experience they've ever had, invite all their friends there.

Also, I'm still giggling that you misspelled your own signature.

I used to think ignore list could solve anything, and then I played Aion in the early days and discovered that ignoring more people constantly gets exhausting and annoying.

Umm...If thats in general chat, turn it off.

If thats in team, tell them to not say spoilers before you start.

If its them not knowing how to play, dont be mean and tell them if theyre doing something wrong.

Something along the lines of "Please play more defensively" or something similar goes a long way compared to say...."OMG U NOOB!" or "U DUMBASS" or somefing.

As for mean people...When people are mean to me in league of legends I just be nice to the enemy team and ignore the d00d.

Now...Your name looks so familiar but Ive never seen your avatar before x.x Sooooo confusing!

Or like...if youre just too tired to deal with it....ignore him or turn off all the chats n stuff :O

It's not a signature.  I just say it a lot.  Also, it's not improper spelling.  The only reason I took "just1opinion" is because "justmyopinion" was taken.  So, both statements are accurate and I use them randomly one or the other, but mostly "Just my opinion," because it seems more natural to say it that way to me.  LOL

Are you now totally confused?  hehe

    EDIT:

I think the banned server people might find they enjoy playing with other asshats like themselves, like you said.  I think it could be a win/win situation.

I'm so glad that on EU servers I've been on for several MMO's we have literally none of that. Yep: no Chuck Norris jokes at all, or any local equivalent actor image

ignore. They will be in this game I'm sure. I was playing WoW the other day (after 3 years) and some noob was running around people spamming "LOL" and randomly blurting out names like a spaz, getting on everyone's nerves. For the most part people ignored him, finally and he just went away. Not sure wth is wrong with people and why they act stupid in MMOS, but it's a fact of life.
