Age of Empires: Finally a decent f2p model

KokushibyouKokushibyou Member UncommonPosts: 230

I am not much of an RTS player, but the new Age of Empires MMORTS looks really good to me. Not for the game itself, but for its f2p model. Instead of the p2w that you see in LOTRO and the rest, it has a more b2p with lots of vanity items in the cash shop.

This is model of f2p I can respect (if it turns out the way the developers are currently describing it). Now if someone would only make a MMORPG with this model?

Bethesda, I am looking at you. B2P Elders Scrolls MMO, with vanity cash shop. Anyone else be interested in playing this?

There are plenty of F2P games with only cosmetic items.

Name 3 that are NOT reporting horrible losses to their investers.

League of Legends, Street Gears,  Guild Wars.

There are plenty more, but those are ones I played and am sure of. I haven't played LoL in a while though, maybe some items are non-cosmetic now, you should check.

Don't know about Street Gears , but Guild Wars 1 is not an mmorpg and League of Legends is DEFINATELY not mmorpg.

Besides technically LoL is not selling cosmetics items only as they sells boosts , runes ,etc - it is not game breaking but definately not cosmetic-only and GW1 is not f2p it is b2p.

Only non cosmetic items in LoL are IP and EXP boosts.

There are runes you can get in bundles but...you can get that with in game currency.  All the champions can be bought with in game currency as well o.o

Is age of empires online out yet???  Cuz if it is i am so trying it!

Sure you can get it in game but they are still in shop aren't they?

I was not arguing if other things apart of xp boosts cannot be aquired in game also , I know they can be.

For me if something can be aquired in game does not actually make it alright that you can get it in shop as well.

I was just pointing a mistake by stating that LoL shop is not comsetic only.

Still I am of opinion that F2P model works great in LoL and it is fairly ok for a dota-game. I still don't like f2p in mmorpg's though.

There's no point arguing with you because you are against F2P in principle.

I could name 10 MMO that are F2P with cosmetic items and for every single one you would find something wrong with it wouldn't you. It's pointless.

Guild Wars makes you pay to get access to any content at all, so that's hardly charging only for cosmetic items.  It's best not considered as a "free to play" game at all.
