EDIT: Seeing the post above me, thank you ArenaNet, you get it.
I still read it, you wasted my time!!

Gamescom will give a great view of the removals/changes and additions Jon Peters talks about.
It's a voluntary thing in Factions, but I always thought it was very cool. It's a series of 5 or so different quests you can do to learn the skills of your character. When you accept the quest, they give you one or two skills and put you in an environment where you can learn to use them.
Ones I remember include as a ranger, being given a crippling shot and having to use it on an enemy who is trying to kite you down a road.
Or being given a defensive skill and being asked to survive for two minutes against two enemies.
Or how to use skills in combination, like necromancers are given Animate Bone Minions and Death Nova at the same time.
It seems like it's not exactly perfectly suited for the system of GW2, but I think it would have been cool if they could have pulled it off.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it."-Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
Hm. While it is a good read and mostly good ideas, I have this nagging feeling that GW2 is still a LONG shot away. Like even 2012 is very optimistic. ANet worked on this SO long, and even now, mid-2011 we see so fundamental changes. Still. Don't expect this anytime soon, alas.

Just kidding.

Since world PvP has loot, and now this adition I really see no reason to leave it(I will since I wanna try some PvE, but some mates wont).
No need! Since world pvp maps have side opjectives that are basically like PvE dynamic events, you'll get that as well! I'll meet you on the battlefield. One way or another

Glad to see me and my mates are not the only ones wanting this, since warhammer that there hasnt been a game that allows us to PvP from lvl 1 to cap, really hope we can get the same feeling we had there, or even better.
the energy part of this blog confuses me. are they changing it back to the way it is in GW but just giving better stuff for it to do? i not to worried about the other stuff the Charr Personal Story is what im looking forward too the most. also i hope pvp is good for the persons that have been hungry for it. XD
"People will be able to experience this at the demo but I thought I'd come in here and clarify the skill learning issue. Learning weapon skills is not intended to be a long arduous process. It is supposed to be a short process that helps players learn their weapons more effectively. For example, you learn your second skill after killing ten foes which happens very quickly (usually before you exit the tutorial). The number required increases slightly as you learn skills but should never become grindy. Once you learn all the skills on a weapon you are done and don't have to keep using a weapon to "skill it up"."
Weapons come in categories, as we mentioned many times before. So if you have a sword for example, and have your 5 weapon skills unlocked, you will also have them unlocked when you find a new, better sword.
Yes, if you find an axe for the first time, you will have to learn those skills. But as Eric said, we intend to make it a non arduous process.
All your worries are gone
IT seems a tad odd why this would be in, considering mainhand weapons only have 3 skills while offhands have only 2.
He mentioned the sword having 5 skills, so It would seem that mainhand and offhand swords count as the same weapon for training purposes?
It just seems slightly redundant with weapons that are purely offhand (focus, torch) since there will only be one skill you have to train for.

They are making skills cost no energy, while dodging is the only thing that takes "energy". It recharges over time as always.

Some professions' mainhand weapons have 5 skills, though they only occupy the first 3 skill slots. The first skill slot is actually a 3-skill combo. Your point still stands in regard to off-hand weapons. It DOES seem a bit redundant. Anyone remember WoWs weapon skill system?

main hand has 3 skills of the 5 skills slot, same weapon on offhand as 2 diferent skills, which you will probably have to train using that weapon as off hand(would make sense being so)
Only 2 handed weapons have 5 skills total
The thief being the exception, first 2 skills are main hand, last 2 skills are from the offhand, and the middle skill (3rd one) deppends on the combination of the 2 weapons, ie, Dagger+Dagger 3rd skill is diferent from dagger+pistol combination 3rd skill
Any word of if they are going to carry the downed state over to pvp? Id be a little disappointed if they did.
In PvP a powerful melee only finishing move which takes a few seconds to activate sends a downed player straight to defeated.[3]

I never liked the idea of skill trainers. I much prefer a more involved skill acquisition system. I can honestly say I have nothing but possitive feelings about this update.

Why do you think it's lame? Because one of two things will happen in 1. You get to essentially get killed twice in a row, oh boy. 2. Once youre downed they just leave your gimpy ass there so you can crawl around with a limited skill set doing shit damage to passers by whining for a rez. Its like when you mana drain a healer and make them useless until they regen or die. Except you can do it to anybody. Its the ultimate CC. Make them linger feebly, unable to contribute as much as they were when they could actually run and jump and use all their skills. If you kill them, youre actually hurting yourself because that means they rez and come back with all their abilities ready for action. I can already see this mechanic getting abused. Tons of downy players strewn about useless while the opposition secures all the objectives with little resistance.

Great news and the best thing is ill be there lol. 1.5 hour flight from standstead here i come WOOT.

well point no1 is not really a valid point in my opinion, you don't die twice, you are just mostly dead before dying ;-p
no2, it really depends on the respawn timer in pvp. But about lazy players and complaining, that's going to happen regardless of what system is used. Anyway, I'm sort of neutral on downed borderlands type of system. I liked it in Borderlands but I'll have to play in GW2 to see if I like it in an mmo.

Are you seriously complaining about a system you have...
a) Never seen in action...
b) Obviously haven't looked into...
Also... You do realise if you are not "Rezzed" You can choose a Respawn point? I don't know to much but I have been following the game for a long time now, and try to keep myself informed on whats going on. However, you are speaking out of personal preference... Would you like a Designated healer who is in charge of reviving people, or would you rather be able to call for a friends help to pick you up and get back into the action. I kind of like the idea of being able to perform a finishing move... If I get you down I want to perform some wicked looking finisher (Mortal Kombat Fatality Moment!) Anyways back on track... I am sure their will be some type of system like a PvP Illness where you cannot just run back into the fray... Maybe all skill damage will be reduced by x% for x time and life is x% of full amount till illness is off... Who knows... I for one cannot wait for this game, and I am sure the PvP will be Epic!

Must hold on for another day and a bit >.<
I really have high expectations of this 'Conquest' map they intend to reveal.
Is it a BG or is it WvWvW? not really sure!
Structured PvP, so BG kinda thing
