On the contrary, WoW launched with practically no endgame content and no PvP system beyond being able to attack the opposing side (i.e. no honor / points / kill counter etc). Classes were also in dreadful shape as far as balancing. In terms of Graphics and standard gameplay I have no complaints, though, but I can't really consider it a "finished game" upon release.
WoW was pushed out with enough for the time. Unlike War, AoC, DCUO, Vanguard and many others it wasn't competing against WoW. It was competing against EQ2, not really the same thing. WoW didn't have much for an end game but it did have an endgame and moltan core was 40 man and hard as hell. And this at a time when it still took a while to get to 60. By today's standards it is not very impressive especially if it was built with today's norm for "challenging". But for the time and in the context of what was already out there it was just right.
Same goes for the PvP. I agree it was pretty close to non existant but then most games of the time were PvE driven and PvP was a choice to be flagged or not. The only real structured PvP of the time, that had been out for a while, was DAoC. But I think that was being somewhat eclipsed by EQ. Everybody was trying to build the next EQ and so WoW worked on PvP second after getting established. Not to say PvP was not important, I just don't think most of the big players realized just how important it would be. But again, you can make that mistake if you are not competing against an already established WoW.
Classes? When have they not been in dreadful shape? I sometimes wonder if they keep things unbalanced and FOTM styled just to keep things stirred up. Maybe not, I am sure that is just the grumpy part of me being... grumpy.
It seems theyr talking about playable demos. Nothing like a open beta that precedes game release
You must be a master at reading ppl, I mean, the guy says "small closed alpha and BETA TESTS in 2011" and somehow you manage to understand that its playable demos

OFC! Because they dont take playable demos from their small betas, but from their epic asses.
It still doesnt say anything about open beta of an almost finished game, or how many small betas should be necessary to get it finished.
What the hell is with this release date secrecy?!? After reading the newest blog, I get this feeling that GW2 is still a long ways off. If the game isn't going to be ready until April 2012, then just tell us. I mean come on. We have been waiting for what feels like 100 years! What's with the secrecy?!
The 2 year old inside of me (probably need therapy):
- Hire more people if you keep pushing release date back 80 times
- Secrets don't make friends. I'm sure you have an "idea" in regards to a time frame of a release
- Stop taking lunch breaks and finish the freakin game
- Boycott if not by X-mas!!!!!
The adult in me:
- It will be done when it's done
- The more time, the more polish
I think the 2 year old side of me is winning this timeeee!
I dont know a single guild wars fan who isnt the same, i shouldnt of rushed EoTN and completed it in its weekend release lol i just want guild wars 2 iv been waiting so long and that 2 year old feeling is alive inside of me too, i just want it so bad, and since im on a long holiday atm i am finding myself bored and wanting it even more, it would be nice to know at least a beta test so we could have a sort of guide line, but if they push this off for another god knows how many years im gonna have even more high expectations which are already currently through the roof, i havnt felt like this for a game in ages and i dont think i will for another game for a while after.

Im sitting here thinking the poor thing was sick or something...
I need to watch animal planet like my little girl lol
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
... and here I was, thinking it was a cranky Librarian.
I think they hyped the game way too early. Like 2 years too early. Quote the Ravens from two years ago, "When's it coming out?".
