Mortal Live Map

It is actually a real cool map you can get on and make notations of things going on in the world.

My question is this.  I played MO for a long time and from the player made patcher, maps. calculators, etc etc.  How come the players make all the best sandbox tools outside of the game?

Here is a link also talking about the map.

default So here we have a sandbox.

I just saw an awesome map created by Slyy. Would something like this be something we want in game? Possibly some kind of reporting and positioning available to guilds and alliances? Do we want MO to be based on a sandbox design but not strictly adhere to what actually it is? As of now, we know we don't have the tools to build our game up from flat sand, let alone trade a handful of sand from one side to the next effectively...but what do we want in MO that will make it FUN and enjoyable, as well a challenging and risky? There comes a point when "it's a sandbox" just doesn't cut it for the lack of things to do or lack of enjoyment. We've all hit a point where even pvp gets stale (no objectives, riding aimlessly). Something like Slyy's map would even make MO more enjoyable, maybe limited by what guildies or alliance members input...but still, it's cool and I'd be for it. At this point, I just want something to do.

Long time player/fanboy asking where is the sandbox tools.  I agree with him why can not something like this be in the game.  I can see a guild using a map like this to let each other know what is going on.  Even put skills with it, cartography, scouting, logistics, etc etc.

This is one of the many reasons I quit the game.  It just seemed Henrik saying the game is "hardcore" was an excuse for no sandbox tools.

You do have to hand it to some of the players.  Where SV drops the ball they pick it up.

It's a nice program, but now that Mortal Online has a contract system inplace it's not really needed.

Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!

lol wait I need to stop laughing so I can respond to this.

The map is not only for trading it can be used for troop updates, pvp updates, to put on events I mean there are tons you can do with the map.

It is not only for trading, but you can mark the location of your vendor since we are talking about trading.

Oh and since we are talking about the contract system that is bug free right??

    SPOILER ALERT.

    No it is not.

Here is that same longtime player that was complaining abouyt the lack of sandbox tools in MO, talking about all the stuff you can do with a player made program.  SV needs to step up and make some real sandbox tools in the game.

I can see this...or putting it on the ground. When looking at the map, you are focused on it and cannot see around you.

So would this be updated as guild members or alliance members input "data"?

I think it would be a perk to being in a guild and alliance. Realism isn't cutting it atm and it can only go so far in a fantasy game, so i wouldn't mind something like this at all. Hopefully when sieges, keeps and territory control have a purpose, these player updated maps would be a huge asset in planning attacks or defending. Scouts could input data by placing a piece on the map and input data into it, i.e.: 5 AQ....or 5 enemies.

Rather than having to speak in a voice chat or type in guild, a player made map that is dispersed to members would be updated as players input data making it much more immersive.

Maybe make the map lootable? A new map would have to be created and dispersed if spies are collecting data from a stolen map.

So all would have to meet at a centralized location to view the map? Or would it be more communication and placing pieces on your own map as marker?

Also, why would this be easy mode? Slyy already created an awesome map that players can use and communication is already a no-brainer...we all have voice chat...Would alt+tabbing and looking at Slyys map be more "hardcore"? Not be sarcastic, I'm just asking if that's really the difference between a "sandbox" and "theme park" because if it is, then I feel for the future of games like this. We obviously don't have the tools to make any of this, an probably won't for a very long time, if ever, so it being "sandboxy" is out of the question right now.

I'm just suggesting player made maps that remove one step (the clunky communication of): "Hey, everyone, I just spotted enemies at Pancake Rock, make sure you put the piece on your map!" I mean, we have guild and friend chat, so that's already a step away from realism. Players would updated via input from guild members. If no one puts anything down on the player-made map, then there's a blank map.

I dunno, just throwing ideas out there, but so far most of the "hardcore" features besides full loot are bland and make the game more work than it is fun.

LOL I did my job correct then if you thought I only played a thief :P

I am playing EVE {mod edit}  I tried out Xsyon but yet again another sanbox with a lot of hope but no potential.

I do not know why they just do not open local auction houses in two populated cities in the game.  It would make people travel to the cities to sell thier wares and bring people to buy them.  One good thing about MO is you can not sit in one city and get every resource.   That would make traders travel to sell at the local auction house and it would make someone travel to buy it.  Which would then make more pvp.

But we all know logical thinking and SV do not go hand in hand.
