my question is... is it going to be free to play i mean they cant expect people to pay if it go's for a TV show on Syfy channel

Scy-fy space shooter mmos are likely to be free download or box charge with an in-game currency fee that acts as a sort of pay-as-you-play money maker for the games company. Add into that the posibility of an online or in-game cash shop for items/ upgrades/ cosmetic pets. Quite a few on the horizon. I think it means that Trion is taking the SOE route of multiple mmo/mmorpg titles.

I agree completely, and not just any videos, actual gameplay.  Too often I think people are taken in by a CGI trailer or by in-game footage that looks more like screenshots of vistas, not what the combat and mechanics look like in action.  In Rift's case in particular, because there's only one newbie zone and leveling path per faction, the game comes across looking amazing to a previewer.  They don't have the opportunity to replay and see they have to repeat the content.

With game after game having completely botched their launch, I can't really blame Trion for wanting to focus on polish first, but it doesn't make for a great game, just a solid one.  Also, considering the P2P model lets them turn a profit with only a few hundred thousand subs and how little competition there was at the time of their launch, it's not like the bar for success was very high.  I'm glad the 500k people who are playing it found a game they like, but it's not for me.

Any new Trion game would have to show me a lot in order to get me to buy.

to be honest, i miss the logic behind your statement complety. the tv show is nothing more like additional (and a new form of) crossover marketing. the tv show is a commercial for the game and vice versa. sure, the investment media company from nbc universal (mother corp of syfy) is one of the major investors behind this game, but why should they do it 'freemium' (i use the term freemium instead of f2p because i guess you don't want a pay to win f2p mmo shooter). also the development costs will be 25+ mio and i really doubt that an investor nor a bank will give you money for a f2p game. the risk is much too high. but thats f2p-p2p discussion and we had enough of this lately.
