I guess my point is, Titan could possibly be a super-casual elaborate Farmville clone.

Is that even remotely possible?  Blizzard and Facebook to conquer the world!  That's a scarey thought.

wow on facebook... you must have 56 friends to complete this raid.

Sorry if it is considered necroing, but I recently wrote an article on my site about this exact subject and I think I pinpointed Titan's universe pretty well.  My conclusion was that

"We might be dealing with an Alternate History type of SF (one in which Atlantis didn't sink, and the ancient "city" of Teotihuacan is still thriving) combined with a post-apocalyptic setting. I mean, who knows to what horrible ending all this crazy history changing lead to? In other words, Titan's universe could be an Earth in terrible shape, brought to its knees by who knows what catastrophic event(s) and populated with familiar yet "wtf, you shouldn't be here!" historical figures / notions."

If you want to read the entire article, with the complete reasoning behind this conclusion, just check-out the link in the signature.

I would say SciFi, really hope for SciFi because the mmo market is oversaturated with fantasy. I really hope for steampunk game.

    PlanetSide from 2003 says hi.

And yes, it worked. Sure it didn't have hit locations and sure it had some latency-related problems, but damn it worked.

If you haven't been in a PlanetSide 100  vs 100 firefight, you don't know what a well executed MMOFPS can feel like.

You can be a fan and thats cool and all, however without even knowing, your only going by assumption.

Blizzard only has 1 mmorpg and most of the original developers are long gone on an island sucking on Mai Tai and enjoying retirement.

So if you think the next Blizz MMO is going to be as successful as the 1st one, hey thats your personal opinion, but WoW was a MMO that came out at the right time and place.

Does lightning strike in the same place?

I don't think it will be mech because they will want as broad an audience as possible and most women won't go for mech. Yes, I know it sounds sexist. A lot of men do go for mech, either. Making a game too technology-oriented would force it into a niche.

I see your a fan as well, however with just 1 mmo under their belt, it still needs to be proved that the next one will even be as successful as WoW. I am not debating their action rpg games of the past (diablo, starcraf and warcraft).

They set the bar for themselves back in 2004 - 2005, can they do the same magic again with different developers...

Only a fan will say they will.

Its always hard to out do the original.

When is Titan supposed to be released anyway?

As, if no one knows what it is even based on it must be ages away and hence no need to even contemplate at the moment me thinks.

I mentioned starcraft in a thread back when the Titan project was first leaked or announced, and got my butt shouted out of the room for such an absurd idea.  I still think it's not impossible.  For subs it needs east and western markets, and that cuts down significantly on the possibilities.  Space sci-fi, up close combat, trinity design, soloable phased quest lines.  It just seems a likely direction.

For another side it would also put them head to head with SW:TOR which will be aging by the time Titan releases and provide a playerbase to pull from.

On the eastern front, starcraft is quite big in Korea.  link  That's a foothold into the Asian market.

I haven't really been following this since I kept hearing the words "social media" used in conjunction with Titan.  That alone tells me that I want nothing to do with this title.  I would have loved to have seen a real SciFi shooter from Blizzard, but from the little I've heard so far, it sounds like they're just wanting to throw a saddle on Facebook and ride that b**** for all she's worth.  I couldn't be less interested.

End of 2013 is the current assumption.

It's weird though that they are delaying its announcement so much... Blizzard usually prefers a window of at least 3 years between a game being officially announced and its launch. Considering Titan hasn't been officially introduced yet, with the 3 year window we're already looking at a 2014 4th quarter launch. They might be staying quiet longer than usual just so they don't steal the hype from D3 and also not to bother WoW until it's really necessary. :)

Even with the little info we have so far, I can assure you your fears will not come alive.

This is a huge, serious project and most of the "social media" will probably be related to the B.Net social network, that is already active for Blizzard's games. Of course, they might offer easy ways to share ingame footage on youtube or to automatically update your facebook status, but that's about it. Blizzard is definitely not Zynga. :D

I know I sound like a freakin door to door seller, but if you check the last article from the link in my signature, you'll see a probable universe for Titan, hinted not only by Blizzard's past but by some specific Titan related quotes too. I really doubt they're going to waste such a potentially awesome universe on a simple social whoring game.

Oh and the social media stuff is already happening in most of Blizzard's games, as evidenced by the following picture shown just a week ago at a conference

SC2 left a sour taste to uncountable players, last 2 WoW expansions have costed Blizzard a lot more players than gained. D3 is shaping up to be SC2 all over again, just worse, it looks like nothing is being done to it, a minor upgrade to D2 .

Titan is a big question mark, but the fact that by their own admission they are targetting the casual playerbase (read: people with far lower standards) should raise a lot of red flags...

as Highplains rightfully said, the current Blizzard is not the same Blizzard that shocked the world with WoW, WC3 or D2. Most of the master minds behind that names are in the competence right now.

Blizzard have been riding on their own success and brand name for at least 3 years.

Their latests releases are killing their own playerbase's trust faster than any competition has achieved so far.

and just wait till D3 hits, hordes of people will buy it blindly because "hey, its blizzard, and its diablo!!!"...give it a couple months, then the screaming and crying and bitching will reach the sky

I tihnk part of the reason Blizzard have been so quiet is because they have changed direction as WoW increasinly looks to be a dying prospect. Initally they though the two would co-exisist and we were talking MMO-FPS ramblings from Blizzard, they seem to have changed their mind as they haven't mentioned anything recently which suggests we are more talk a new title to replace WoW.

So it appears your facts were wrong ... On success rates. Anything to add ?

in the last 4 years they released 4 games, 3 WoW expansions and SC2, plus they merged with Activision.

Considering that if you backtrack another 5 years ( to make it 9) they have only released 2 more games, I'd say its a curious range the one you picked to try to make a point...did i said curious? sorry, I meant deeply biased...

besides,  I said Blizzard are killing themselves slowly as of late (since SC2 and Cataclysm, I'd dare say), obviously its a process of decay that doesnt inlvove that 4 years (up until WotLK Blizzard's star was clearly still on the rise), and that wil make itself more clear on the future.

All that said, I find your data highly interesting.

Apparently they grew the same in 2008  and 2009 (only releasing TBC and WotLK respectively) than in 2010 (releasing both Cataclysm and SC2). And even then,  you have to factor inflaction on yearly basis, so they actually grew less.

which seems to back up my post that Blizzard's trend as of late is clearly and beyond reasonable doubt negative rather than positive

which can only go far down in the future. by all metrics, WoW has been losing quite a lot of steam for some time now and the nosedive continues. The next expansion most likely wont get as warm welcome as the previous did. and D3 is shaping up to be another sore dissapointment.
