A warning about Prius Online(gPotato US region)

FranBuniFF12FranBuniFF12 Member UncommonPosts: 7

Hello there fellow MMORPG players,

I have something I need to tell you about a recently released MMORPG known as Prius Online.

Released just a few months ago by gPotato gala-net.

Now before I get into the details you must know that, I was a dedicated player to this game, not just some poor sap who got level 20 and then quit. No I was one of the number 1 PvE players in the games current existance. First level 50(1st release Level Cap) of my class, 2nd to level 60(Live Expansion level Cap) and amoung the first 10 to hit level 60, as well as the 10th anima of my server and 4th to obtain Gigas. Alltime Historical unchangelbe records, When it comes to Prius Online USA, I am not a newb who passed by, I am a game legendary there, I'm not saying this to brag, not by a long shot. Instead I am telling you this to state that what im about to say isnt from the eyes and ears of someone who didnt experiance the game, but rather from a most dedicated player.

Now onto business.

If you value your sanity and pride as a MMORPG player , you'd do best to avoid this game, and there are several reasons as to why you should.

First off, the US/Global version of the game is much different and was notibly altered from its Korean, Taiwanese, and Japanese published versions. And this has created much of an unveiling of the severe greed mongering that has been applied to the game in order to money sink people, and give next to nothing in return. First off, just for starters, the upgrade system was not only altered but rigged as well.

The upgrade rates are obsurdly low, and the upgrade safe range is nil. The altered the upgrade system to require a safety item EVERYTIME you attempt an upgrade. Some of these are obtainable in game, but the main source of supply is via their shop. the main item in which everyone will have to purchase or else risk their current upgrades is called a Master work steel, and they cost 32 fucking USD, for 10. I personally have bought and used these items to attempt to make an upgrade. On one item my Dark Raven Bow a level 54 weapon, I spent 80 USD+ on this weapon and it was only +8. The upgrade range is +15.

I not only used the upgrade items, I also used the success aguments which cost 7USD for 10. for each 10round attempt it costed me a totaly of 39$, I tried it twice. 20 items 20tries one freaking upgrade level up. from +7 to +8.

According to the JP upgrade rate, i should have had at least 18.5% chance per attempt of getting the upgrade teir to +9.

18.5% is pretty high compared to the average majority. This isnt just bad luck, this is defying probability  and chance. For ever attempt the probabilty of getting an upgrade goes up based on counting. 80$ for a single level up teir on a mid range weapon is obsurd. Oh, and I am not the onlyone reporting a change to the games system. I have a chinese friend who plays the Taiwan version. he spent roughtly 1/4 what I did, and got from +9 to +15 in only 13 attempts. that is average too. the average person uses about 13~17 to get from +9 to +15 on taiwan server. The statistical rate is serverly lowered.

The upgrade system wasnt the only thing to show a change. I, haveing played the TW version long before the USA version had noticed that a certain quest reward had been removed from the US version. This item that WAS free in all versions except the US, is now sitting in their shop for 20USD. From free and standard to privledge and expensive and paid players only.

It gets even better though. The GM and administration staff is pure corrupt. Talk about game masters on a power trip, and playing favorites. I have a video of pure and clear cut evidence of harassment, Blatent and utter harassment by a single guild in the server that I played, And the Game Masters Did NOTHING about it. These people werent just harassing me,They were out right preventing me from the game. What makes this even worse, is that first off I received a 1 day ban a few weeks before for the EXACT same behavoir, THEN I get this email when i sent in 40+ screenshots as evidence of their bevoir.

Dear valued Prius Player,

Thank you for contacting us.

We investigated the PK history of the players you mentioned and we couldn't find evidence of any of them actually killing you during July, let alone killing you repeatedly abusing the channel system.

Please do not submit unsubstantiated claims.

If you have any other questions feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,

Prius GM Team

Heres one of my following responces

To further the proof of harasment seeing as how no one on the prius team was beleiving what was going on I have a video of the people in question of the ticket

LIA-72937-954

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeQiheOwfsg

Harassing me with the PK system. systmatically having several people set up ready to PK my character as soon as i swap channels and resurrect.

This is only 3~4minutes of a 10minute ordeal in which the teleporting feahter was unusable and the players were attacking me in such away that i couldnt leave for 10 minutes.

Absolutely ruining my leveling session, and destroying any confidence i had about the game.

I was banned once for this behavoir, I feel very betrayed, and am very distrusting of the company since this has been going on for weeks.

These players have robbed me of HOURS of gameplay time in which i could have been making my character better or have had a more enjoyable experance.

I have sent in reports before and have not had any replies.

Nothing has been done about these players who abuse the system and and harass others out in the open.

These people have been allowed to harass other players without consequence for months now.

Oh and in the end, the best part of all, Is many people started to speak out about this sort of behavoir, and they became the whistleblowers about the games corruption. Every one of them has been in game banned for temporary periods and or also on the ir forums as well. Infact aposter on the forums risked a permanant ban to note it to the rest of the community. I myself began revealing stuff about the game, becoming a whistle blower. I wasnt just an average poster either. I was a member of the volenteer team. I was one of their Wiki Editors. Their official reason for removing me was that I was in active, untrue seeing as how i edited more than 2 of their other editors combined. One of which hasnt made more than a few icon uploads. The made the message clear, speak out and get banned. Also to add on, One of their famed wiki editors, was a person known to banbypass and hack and host Private servers of their Gpotato games, and the team was FULLY AWARE of this as well. He was appointed head of the wiki staff and they GMs LITERALLY bent over to his will. They found the policy of crying mercy to a 16 year old brat a better idea than offcially dealing with him. The gave him the keys to their infomation source and let him loose. All people ever did was complain about him being a complete asshole and a prior bannie of the Gpotato portal(has bragged about an 80+ permanant global bans from Gpotato). Corruption at its finiest. Mind you this person wasnt demoted and dealt with until someone managed to screenshot one of his slip ups and they had to remove him.

Mind also about their PvP gear incedent that turn into an absolutely unessisary and beyond stupid fight between player base and Prius staff.

In the game, there is a PVP arena sysstemt hat no one uses unless its to wintrade and get PvP gear to be better at open world PK. More than understand able seeing as how Prius's host PvP is utter horse crap and teams always end up stacked and one sided.

The Game masters flipped out and called the entire player base who had this gear, Illegtimate, cheaters and exploiters. They made such a big deal about it that it was even threated to remove items that players had spent 100 of USD on. Not only did this evoked alot of anger in the player base it turned the Attitude towards the game on its head.

So whats the result of all this? a near 90%~95% population loss. the games launch was assumed nearly 20k people, now? less than 1000 players between 2 servers.

Severaly thousand disgruntled pissed of players, and a desperate attempt to recover their game.

Well? To bad for them they pissed off the wrong people. They pissed of the honest to god, true blue dedicated players. And some of us Wont rest until the game closes its doors.

So fair warning to anyone who wants to risk it, But you cant say,I didnt warn you. Player beware, Prius is a terrible MMORPG in the US/Global region. I suggest you find a better atlernative than this corrupt game.

Oh and I didnt even touch on the 3D engine restrictions, the lack of any serious PvP, the enumerous game glitchs and bugs that prevent some classes from being able to play, and so many faulry and unattended to screw ups. Oh yeah HORRIBLE voice acting, gender locked classes and a complete stupid story that has next to NOTHING to do with you, your character or your anima, other than the fact that you live on the same planet and just happened to ahe a quest there.

Good luck finding a better game. wont be hard, I suggest IRIS ONLINE, but what do I know? Im just a MMORPG PVE Lord, speaking out about a terribley corrupt game.

I think your probability computations are off.  If you have an 18.5% chance of successfully upgrading an item each time, then in 20 attempts, the probability that at most one will succeed is about 9.26%.  That hardly requires defying laws of probability.  Or perhaps rather, you didn't do any computations, and your intuition is wildly wrong.  Most people have terrible intuition about probability, which is the basis for most such gambling, anyway.

Furthermore, one could ask how your sword got to +7 in the first place.  Most likely, you're cherry-picking a run of bad luck.  If it took 160 attempts to go from +0 to +8, then that would be far more convincing data that the probability isn't 18.5%.  But if you have 200 upgrades attempts in total with an 18.5% chance of success each, then the probability that you have a run of at most one success in some sequence of 20 consecutive attempts is actually pretty high.  What would be remarkable is if you didn't have any run of bad luck.

First off, I have no sympathy for you being killed repeatedly. If there is player killing enabled, expect to be killed by players. PVP happened in a PVP world so they say.

How ever, I do agree that gPotato's cash shop is a total rip/scam along with their upgrade system for their games. If you ever wanted to play an online, virtual casino: gPotato games would be top choice.

Their customer and billing service is pretty poor as well. I used their cash shop once. Worked fine. A little later I decided to use it again and they rejected the transaction stating that my paypal e-mail didn't match my account e-mail even though I used the different e-mail address previously. Costing me additional transfer/conversion fees for the failed transaction.

    Avoid gPotato I say.

Under my personal experience, Gpotato/Gala-net is well known for having corrupt staff favoring big guilds in several of their games.

Then again it happens on every single mmo platform where 15 yy olds are allowed to become staff members.

I remember back then when gaming platforms only hired adult, professional individuals for their staff positions, trained them and even passed them thru psychological tests before actually giving them any sort of power, and were kicked away at the very first sight of corruption.

But nowadays it´s much cheaper to take a few random 1337 kids, give them some cash shop points, and tell them to make ppl stfu.

    Rawr.

I guess you havent played other Gpotato distributed games. Look at the old Flyff or the not so recent already Allods online rage. I dont need to say more. Players who have been playing mmos over the years know Gpotato reputation. From the 1st day i saw that gpotato was the distributor, i skipped the Eng/Global version and continued playing on the Prius asia server. Nothing amaze me.

Sadly true. I can't tell if his statement that "For ever attempt the probability of getting an upgrade goes up based on counting" is a reverse-engineered guess about how their upgrade system works or just a re-statement of the (false) law of averages.

The more central flaw with this rant, though, is that there's really no false advertising going on. No bait-and-switch. If the JP or Taiwanese success rates really are higher than the American rates—and you've offered NO evidence of that, short of "I have a friend who heard it from some people"—then so what? Unless they explicitly said "these are the success chances" or "the success chances are the same across all countries' servers", you are not being cheated or lied to.

Bottom line: you paid real money for the chance to moderately improve a virtual item. Even within the P2P world and even among the people who truly like the idea of P2W in P2P games, this is pretty bad deal to willingly walk into, and you willingly walked into it. Enjoy your +8 bow, sir.

No comment on the harassment/moderator issue without more info.

It wasnt the fact that I was being killed repeatedly, its the fact that It is agasint gPotato policy. Absolutely a bannable out right harassing offence. They took several PvP characters and pitted them against a single PvE build character. PvE Lord that I am, No matter how hard I try, there is no way a Fully speced PvP Character will ever fall to a PvE character in pvp combat not, a chance. The conditions of play were illegal, which is what I was refering to in the first place. The fact that they are an illegal condition, they should have been dealt with. I TOO COMMINTED THE OFFENCES! Did you forget to read that? But I was dealt with. These people were not, they were allowed to continue their clear harassment to this very day. I was denoting the GM corruption and favoritisim.

Also as it comes to Gpotato, Its a real team to team basis, and not even joking. Just a few offices down from Prius Allods and Flyff, is the office of one of the BEST Online games I have ever encountered in my entire 7 year+ MMO Experiance.

A quaint little skill based racing platformer called Tales Runner. This game has the best GM staff and the best Dev team I have ever seen in my entire gaming career. Heres a little letter i wrote to Tales Runner: http://talesrunner-forum.gpotato.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21607&sid=4560a6dde1a88693e6e16153a6def3c2

And down the hall is one of the best traditional MMORPGs I have ever played, not because it was epic or amazing just because it took the ideas it had and did them right. Now the GM staff here is ALSO very very good an helpful.

HOW ON EARTH can two of their games be sooooo well staffed and managed, just to the point of impressiveness, but the rest of their games are utter trash and bullshit?

it is surprisingly easy to cheat luck lol ask loto-quebec (in quebec canada)
what they did is basicly restart the system or such everytime a first number or a last number came
    1,2,3,4,5,6
so they said if there is a 1 (exemple)reroll,if there is 6 also an exemple reroll)
so basicly they lowered the probability by a huge amount doing this in lotery
i bet they can do the same in game
how they got caught ,mathematician having too much time on their hand
caught the thing ,lets say that loto-quebec is still working on their official reply (lol)
so the thing happening in that game isnt new,and is aimed squarly at gambler who say stuff like this
COME ON BABY THIS IS THE ONE I CAN FEEL IT,god told me etc etc etc!
in the end it was his 19998 try!

Ive played most of Gpotatos games and they're great time killers, Thats it. If your looking for a seriouse game to put your time and money into then Gpotato games are not the place.

On the other hand if you need something to do or kill time simply because you dont want to watch ghost hunters with your wife then this or any gpotato game is for you.

I feel really bad for FranBuniFF12 who was always very helpful and active on the Prius forums.  Many of the Q & A posts are still there as a help to new players.

Sad to say, this is what is happening and is often the experience from many of the f2p MMO's from "game hub" type companies that have a bunch of "free games" as a part of a single portal.  The individual games are usually so under manned and under funded that there just aren't enough good people in charge to be fair or timely in corrective action.  Often action by GM's are misguided because they just aren't given the adequate time to make a good and fair decision.  Each game simply has to work well enough to get people to buy stuff from the cash shop.  It's usually not about the gameplay or development after release...it's about getting people to buy from that cash shop.

Sadly, I had a similar experience with Allods.  A great game destroyed by terrible management decisions.  Regardless of what they do now, I just can't trust the people running it.  Ironically, Allods is also from gPotato...

The game may be great, but as with any mmo, mismanagement and poor leadership will destroy it.

    RIP Prius Online.

This right here, is the way to go. Honestly if you really need an MMO to spend money on, you really need to pay for a subscription based model. People say they spend $100 to get one weapon from +8 to +9 (even if it was 0 to +whatever), you do realize that could have been an entire YEAR of a subscription.

I still cant fathom why people are so excited over the F2P model. I have been against it since the beginning, but i cant deny it works. Companies make way more money with a F2P game than they ever would with a subscription. Havent you ever wondered how an MMO that failed with a P2P model suddenly doesnt have to shut down when they go F2P? Do thier costs change? NO, its because they are now making a ton more money. Free is anything but when it comes to games. Do i still play F2P games, of course i do. Do i spend money on them? Never, i have a sub based game for that. I spend my 15 a month happily, and have access to an entire game, no holds barred. Would you ever get that in a F2P? I dare anyone to name a free game that you can access the entire game content (including loot tables, zones and quests) for $15 a month.

I feel for people that post on forums saying they got ripped off. I really do, but honestly you had it coming. Just by spending a single dollar in a F2P game you just got ripped off. The first time you upgrade a weapon, repair your armor or buy a quest pack using real money, you just got ripped off. I dont blame the companies for this, they know what they are doing, and they never have tried to deny it. Its the players that are naive, and the more you spend, the more it encourages them.

This is a typical game at galanet/gpotato all their games are like this, they repeadly make changes and put items that are avilable in other regions versions in game, they take said item out and make it item mall only, as well as lowering taming and upgrade chances. The whole lv 150, 155 then 160 gear in rappelz was total bullshit. You spend probally hundreds of dollars to upgrade a lv 150 item to +20, only to have to repeat the process again 5 levels later. This same gear has a set bonus, but BUT to get the set bonus you have to buy a 20 US dollar helm out of the cash shop since its not a ingame drop.

1 hour of double exp in rappelz also will cost you 2 dollars US. Compare that to Eden Eternal at Aeriagames where 6-7 US can get you 1 week of +50% exp and class xp(equivlement to rappelz JP), Like Stamina saves in rappelz this 6 day exp item is tradable before its used. I myself don't spend in gpotato's cash shops since their prices for vitural goods that cost them 0 to produce is far FAR to high for what they do.

I'd honestly reccomend staying anyway from anything that gpotato has touched, because their games are 100% setup so that you have to spend out the ass or else you have no chance, even in pve. Now you can farm ingame cash to buy said items but that can take months, or years, and its 99% totally based on luck for making money. About the only guarnteed thing is Lak drops, which if you have a +10 lv 10 lak neck(Which would have cost you about $115 US to get). it can hold 50k lak which in HV (Special zone u gotta pay to get into with rl cash viz buying a pass), you get 375k per 1k lack. otherwise its 250k per 1k. The drop rate in rappelx also drops sharply, once u hit 80+ your extremly lucky to ever see anything other than cash drops and maybe a potion or 2 from any mob. Of course though they now have a drop rate increase potion that I bet Gpotato lowered items drop rates to make up for them being there.

Anyway, yeah.. General advice stay away from gpotato games, or look for private servers of their games, you'd be better off.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

The games  that Gpotato publish are good. The problem is they dont know how to handle something good.  They dont update there wikis and there quest are bugged most of the time.

    to aslan132:

Actually there are, but not many.

I suppose Turbine`s DDO and LOTRO would be the closest to it.

Either you spend 10+ bucks monthly to purchase cash shop items needed for your leveling or just subscribe as a monthly subscription to unlock everything there is in the game. Meanwhile you get points monthly which are given to you to enable you to buy cash shop items which are able to last you forever after you drop the subscriptions.

Bottom line is all cash shop stuff purchased are permanent whether your a free / premium / subscriber player. Where some other ftp game you just "rent" the full game as a subsriber.

I gave Prius a try as well. I gotta say, I do like the game in it's basics, but I have problems with the cash shop as well. Ever since Allods online, gpotato implemented a *MUST* to use items from the cash shop in their games. I really hate this way of forcing a cash shop on players.

One of the most annoying things I think in Prius and it's cash shop is the use of monthly storage fees. If you only take the bag and 'house' storage, then you've already spent 800 taters (8 US$) for only 1 character. I know most players will have more than 1 char, so start doing the maths. And with more than 1 char, you want account storage as well - an other 800 taters down the drain. Then there is (as already stated) the price for enchanting. I know it's a Pay2Win MMO, but WTF are those prices?

Playing this game to it's fullest you'll spend more $$$ than the avarage subscription MMO. And when you take that in account, and compare Prius to any subscription MMO, then I gotta say that Prius is not worth the money spend on.

I have played Gpotatos games for years and i'm not surprise with the OP post.
First people have to understand that most asian games use semi random RNG which have the flaw to create a lot of chain fail or chain success, which a true RNG won't do. And this problem come at every new asian mmo with people complaining about their unacceptable bad luck, and empirically they just prove the theory behind those 2 type of RNG. So when you are on a bad luck train in those game that can be really bad, and you will have a lot more of those trains.

Second its not the first time i had people playing both the US/EU version as well as some asian one told me or say on their forum how much more harsh and cash shop dependent their mechanisms are in the west. Now is it true or not i can't tell, i never played any of their asian versions. But this certainly came back many time when i was playing their games, and we even used to say that the asian make the west pay for their games.
And Gpot is one of the leader in p2win model, i think they are even at the forefront of some method like the xp pots, i don't know if they invented those marketing stuff but they sure made them popular. So if you play those game expect a very strong cash shop. But at least their games aren't that bad, they have  some good title imo, at least good in the f2p scene.

While randomly lurking reveiws, I read this discussion, and would like to comment. Although I haven't played Gpotato's games, I had looked at them, and decided against them. Instead I had played Shaiya from Aeriagames since it's CB, and ran into the same type of crap the OP ran into in their game. For those that don't know AGE's Shaiya, it includes impossible crafting for higher end gear without the cash shop, difficult and expensive with it, and a lovely perma-death function at the highest mode that require a cash shop item to prevent deletion. Oh, and that item is buggy as shit, in all versions of it. One of many reasons I left it over a year ago.

(Still leaves a bad taste in the mouth to think about it.)

However, this isn't the point of what I wish to say, because we all know that all too often game hosters can/will ruin a game that has potential.

I actually wanted to comment on the DDO reference. Other than Minecraft, it's the only MMO I'm currently playing. I've done FTP at first, went VIP, and now currently enjoy being a premium player. What wasn't explained enough in the previous post is that DDO gives you store credit just for leveling and gaining "House Favor". While some of the content must be purchased (or be a vip), quite alot of it is FTP, enough for a person to get to the max level in game, all while gaining more points. Once you buy an account option, IE: content pack, more char slots, any other permanent change to the account, you are forever "Premium".

The points are account based, so multiple chars pay into it, and content unlocked is shared through the entire account. I'll be completely honest, I haven't found anything that is required to have from the shop to progress. Some items are easier to obtain from the shop, but are still obtainable with some work through game.

All in all, I have found DDO's store/game management to be pretty much the best from other games I've tried. I've tried quite a few too, from private servers of games I liked, to official, and time and again I ran into the same crap till DDO. The only fault I truly find with DDO is the lack of a proper PvP setting. That's about it.

Sorry if this became a bit of a review for DDO, but I felt it needed clarified.

If for every 100 attempts it is 18.5 then for 20 attempts is it not 3.7 % . This case it says every attempt  is 18.5 % that never changes it is 18.5 % for every attempt.

Without even leaving Gpotato, how about Uncharted Waters Online?  There, you can access all of the content for $0, ever, and without even being meaningfully gimped.

Gpotato shut their version of the game down in 2012. This thread is from 2011.
