Hey,
so i see a hell of a lot of people questoning Rifts success based on the argument "well why have they not released sub numbers ?".Well incase most dont known they are still in the process of releasing the game over in the eastern market.Considering WoW had 6 million subs in China alone i believe it makes perfect sense keeping closed lips until they know there Worldwide subscription numbers as they could easily gain an extra 100k+ subs from the eastern market. Not to mention they are also releasing over in Russia.

It has nothing to do with where/when its being released, but rather not to dissuade a potential customer from paying/playing. You will never get a raw number of players from Trion, as it has been with all other MMO devs too. And yeah, oddly enough, even though one can really only play with a handful of others at a time; for some, if there isn't hundreds-of-thousands or millions of other players, they think its dead and there won't be anyone to play with.
Its really silly to think like that, especially considering most MMOs are quite solo friendly and don't require other players for 90% of the adventure. However, with Rift though, they've made it very easy to jump in and out of parties with other players, not only from Rifts and quests, but sometimes just standing near a quest mob when it dies will give you credit. Then with the advent of patch 1.5 and the new solo "Chronicles" dungeons and AA, its only going to become ever more solo oriented, but there will still be plenty of group content throughout...
as shallow as that is -- its true for some people

What you RIFT appologists are forgeting is ...
Massively Multiplayer.
To say you only need a few people to play with or that it is solo firendly doesn't put the Massively Multiplayer in MMORPG.
Whilst you are correct that you do generally only play wit ha relatively small number of players, things such as the economy of the game are badly affected by the number of players.
Trion have managed to loose a large % of their initial customer base and have discounted the game heavily by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at getting new players onboard. Everything that is except the quality and depth of the gameplay.
It is the quality and depth of the gameplay that matters for MMORPGS to last , your community - or playerbase is next. Few people playing = no community = no MMORPG.
When you discount your product (in gameplay and price terms) to the extent Trion have you accelerate its lifecycle.
RIFT is already middle aged, approaching old age .. or dog status.
RIFT isn't cool, it isn't aspirational, your accounts & characters are not objects of desire.
In reality Rift should still be a rising star with its most profiatable and highest population days ahead, not behind it.
When SWTOR comes along it will die harder and never recover.

Rift has nothing to apologize for. The game is a massive success and if you want to think otherwise - absolutely NOTHING will convince you. Oh and on a given night I see hundreds of players running around doing crafting rifts/events. How do I know this. We have two 20 man groups that run doing stuff three sometimes four times a week.
That's 40 people from us alone. Add to that other guilds in the game doing the same thing. On top of that Top Raiding guilds are in Rift doing progression content trying to take down Hammerknell. You want to know where they are after two weeks of release? The 8th Boss. No one has completed Rift's Top Raiding Dungeon yet.
Yeah, Rift is dying...w/e
Please keep posts about sub numbers in the already open thread instead of creating a new one: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/324403/page/1. No, this isn't trolling, but we try to avoid duplicate threads on the same general subject.
