The adult gamers I respect aren't some unshaven couch potatoes and don't waste their lives prancing around in caves and on jetskis.

Wait, so going jetskiing and cave diving with your spouse is a waste?  Priority check time!

Heck, it's like a page out of my own life.

    So true!
This is my biggest conflict with playing MMOs. I like to excel in what I do, and I have a very obsessive streak so MMOs are potential recipes for endless hardcore playing for me :P
And the cost is of course, the other activities I like to enjoy - going out in the evenings (when everyone's raiding or whatever), hitting the gym, going hunting for exotic foods in my city, having the freedom to change my schedule as I see fit, and so on.
I am not an adult (though lgeallay I might be) but I found what you wrote to ring so true!

I need to take this advice more.

The best part about this whole thing is the "freaky sex" and the fact that MMOExposed got offended.  Pure awesomeness.

Also I too could take 29 Biebers... wishing it was more, but at the same time I'm glad that there's only one of him and life isn't as long as most people think.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Haha we had this type of scenario in our guild once, majority of us were adult gamers and another guild sort of raged war on us and they consisted of these "kiddies". It was quite fun to be honest as the game allowed very interesting things if a guild were to go to war, but to be honest the matter is sort of overexagrerated a little too much because age has little to do with the sort of behavious people typically blame on "kiddies".

I mostly play Minecraft, so I log onto a public server on occasion where I find a good number of the players and administrators of the server are indeed teenagers. Some range from near legal adult (17 y/os) to those just fresh out of their tweenage years. But they're mostly very friendly and well behaved. In fact, most are pretty damn smart for their age, being able to switch between MCEdit to terraform a map to hand building the rest for personal touch. I compare this to the so called mature gamers in MMOs which often are 30 something and considered mature for their age who often can't even organize a simple PVE resource/crafting operation (let alone PVP operations or raids).

I think my personal experience illustrates how much of a non-issue age is in terms of maturity. Maturity happens for a number of reasons; age is only one of them and sometimes it's not a statistically significant factor. There is some truth to the age gap in other respects such as culture shock. When I talk to younger people about the original NES games or even some obscure online games like MUDs, the younger folks just don't know what the hell I'm talking about (now I know how grandma felt when she talked about WW2 and radio shows). And conversely, when I hear about some new Internet meme (like the whole My Little Pony thing) it just flies pass me with no context or comprehension on my part (thank goodness Google exists for I would be out of the loop of many a meme or in-joke).

So, I can say this may be where so-called adults and so-called children are rubbing each other the wrong way. They both talk about different things and even will talk about the same things but with different reasons behind them. Calling something gay today has little to do with the implications of someone's sexuality and more to do with how is distasteful/disliked. That's just a tiny example of the subtle differences between two sorts of people (based on perceived age).
