Considering a return

Heffy424Heffy424 Member UncommonPosts: 524

I've been considering a return to EQ2 lately I've been playing on the 14 day free trial and part of me wants to re join up but i've only played when I got the free time to do so and haven't progressed quite as far as I would have liked, so i'm curious as to how this whole new system they got going works.

My questions

-Are there still the original servers around and if so are they populated well enough?

-If i pay the $15 bucks a month can I still play on this EQX server or am I limited.

- How is the solo play i've noticed a huge difference from my days of launch and the few months after and it wasn't this easy so i'm curious if and when leveling slows down considerably at.

    - Antonia Bayle (and others) are original servers,  AB is the most populated live server

    - Live and EQ2X are two different services,

if you pay 15.00 a month for live, that wont get you gold membership on EQ2X

you would have to pay 20.00 a month for Station Access --- which enables you to play all SOE games that you own

    - plenty of solo content, wiki even has a helpful solo quest chart

    http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Soloing_Timeline

its easy to solo all the way to 90 ...  there are no choke spots, as long as you visit different zones

level 50-65 has the least solo content but theres at least 6 zones that people can solo quest within that level range

(Everfrost, Lavastorm, Sinking Sands/Pillars of Flames, Lesser Faydark, Loping Plains, Ten Tangle)

Thank you both for the replies and yes im pretty certain I'm on the trial since im playing on Oasis right now. I'll probably ride out the last few days and if I feel the itch to play beyond that i'll just pay 15 bucks to get my old account activated again and go from there (I do like having all those vet rewards from day 1)

eq2 now  is a  world of warcraft copy you can solo to top level with ease.

i played eq2 from beta to retail and for years till the karnak expansion were it was made pointless to group till think its lv78 has you gain xp more solo, i am a group player in dungeons so i left.

but i hear there is a dungeon finder comeing would like to see if anyone will use it or just bop about solo all the time to me means single player game online.

the dungeons in eq2 are great i miss the good old days.

Nonsense, EQ2 is not a WOW copy. I played WOW for 6 years and still play EQ2 since release, almost 7 years. I do get tired of WOW clone comments they are simply not accurate.  The comment that "I am a group player in dungeons so I left" is silly since there are many group dungeons in EQ at all levels. Try starting your own group instead of just sitting watching chat to get a pug.  If I want to group I can find a group anytime of day and within 10 to 15 minute.

A lot of vets have left over changes, which happens in any game. Over all EQ2 is a much better game then release. Not every change SOE has made I like but the game has changed regularly and for the better. I say come on back and give it a try. I am looking forward to the next year in EQ2 many cool things are going to happen and have started happening.

Are you looking for PVE or PVP? I have played Eq2 on and off for 7 years and must say that it is a very good game. In terms of content and pve, it's awesome. The only problem I found is getting groups, populated or not, it's always seemed to be a pain in eq2 unless you have a good guild with a lot of players. I suppose with the dungeon finder they are adding, this will get better in that area.

The reason I left Eq2 was the pvp. I really like that you drop some money and potentially an item from your bag; however, with the addition of the pvp gear, it has been nothing but a pain in the ass. They made it so that you have to choose to either wear one or the other, meaning, you can't go questing with pvp gear, as you loose a lot of stats such as Int, Stam, Etc. In contrast, if you try to pvp wearing pve gear and they have pvp gear, you will loose 100% of the time. Worse then any of that, the grind for the gear in battleground is the most horrible thing I have ever experienced. You're looking at a month minimum..lol. Oh, and you also have to level lock and grind away at AA points to be competitive. It's like they just made this shit up to make you grind for months (it's actually precisely like that..lol).

So, if you're looking for pve, you should be good to go; pvp, at least for me was more of a job then fun.

If you played EQ2 "from beta to retail" then you should know that eq2 was released several weeks before WoW. And if it was release before WoW, even by a little bit, how could it possibly be a copy of WoW?

    All die, so die well.

lol why o why do people come out with this same remark. well get this i have never played solo in eq2 it bores me to tears and to say that is what i did is a joke at best left at lv72 group play only it is what you call being good at the class you played.

and yes raid has well was in a very big guild has well at the time but when i left out of 150 plus in a guild you were lucky if there was 5 on.

class i played was a mysyic :)))) and you should know that they were a group class at best.

and yes to me and many more ive known in the past eq2 did change more to the wow side of play has they wanted a slice of the pie it might of come out before wow but it never stayed true to its roots.

Why oh why? because it is true based on your first post, you did not explain yourself. You were basically say there was no group play in EQ2. Why oh why do people say EQ2 never stayed true to it's roots. Of course it did. Saying SOE made SWG a WOW clone is correct but they did nothing like that to EQ2. They might not have taken it the direction you liked but it is still very much it's own game and still the same game I started on day one but for me it is simply a better game now. No other mmo has has held me as long as EQ2 and still after all these years I am not bored. SOE makes a lot of stupid decisions but for the most part they had done right by EQ2.
