Awesome! Love the video review... I did buy the GW trilogy pack on steam a few months back but haven't tried it out yet. Maybe I will have to give it a go for a little while. Anyways, I have always liked video reviews better than written ones. I hope these continue!!
I would have liked to see the video, however I have third party windows blocked. Please host your video games on your own server.
From the comments I would say I agree with the final score of 8.6. I have been playing Guild Wars since Sorrows Furnace was introduced, I still have lots to do. I still feel that Guild Wars has some of the best graphics of any game (not so sure I like the graphics of Guild Wars 2 way too stylized).
I think what you don't like is the vibrance of the colours. GW1 has a lot more calmer tones than GW2.
Lemme say how stupid to review this game. Why not something idk current? This review isn't going to bring in any new players into a game that is almost in Beta stage. Maybe u should find something more useful to do with your time
8 is the new 9, and 9 is the new 10. 10 is totally unrealistic.
8.6 for a 6 year old game is equally unrealistic. You are being way too kind, and, im sorry to say, not credible.
The age of a game is not mutually exclusive from a good score. Grapics-wise older games will look poor in comparison, however, gameplay>graphics in games. There are a number of games that are older that have much better gameplay options compared to games that are released now. Classic games remain classics because they were pinnacle games of their time, and most often stand up to the ravages of time.

It's nice to have video reviews. The audio was poor though, and having excellent audio is key for video reviews. However, you covered a number of various game features. I also found your comments on longevity confusing. The game has been around for 6 years, and there are a number of long term players within the game still. 1-2 years of content is obviously an incorrect assumption considering the age of the game as a whole.

I'm a huge GW fan and have been since release day all those years ago. But I have to agree with this. The game is showing it's age and the scores given just don't reflect today's reality. I would say they would have been accurate, even low in some cases, a few years ago, but the review should have been done with today's gamer in mind, not yesterday's. Especially in terms of graphics, it lags far behind today's titles.
For me though, this is still at the top of my list of favorite MMOs and only trails X-Com and System Shock 2 across the entire gaming spectrum, both for it's pure beauty (pre-sear Ascalon is still for me, the prettiest place in any game) and for the depth of it's gameplay. Storywise, it's among the best. But the industry has moved on, which is exactly the reason why GW2 had to be started from scratch.
I would still be perfectly comfortable recommending it to anyone, but with a clear caveat that it's an older game and it shows -- an oldie, but a goodie.

There are multitudes of people getting interested in the Guild Wars IP for the very first time as a result of GW2, and there are frequent references being made to the original game, sometimes officially by ArenaNet and sometimes by us fans. I've seen loads of questions from people asking about GW1 because of this, so I think a re-review right now is perfectly appropriate.

And I'do go even deeper on that "graphic x age" topic. Dated graphics don't mean ugly bad graphics. Graphics are very closely related to art design and this one, when good, it never gets old. No matter how many years pass, I still think Chrono Trigger (yes, the SNES game) is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played and if somebody asked me to review that game I'd give it a high score on graphics. I myself tend to see "graphics" as a really subjective aspect, more than the technical stuff related to the technologies used.
Aside from "art design", I still think GW looks kinda nice, mainly when compared to other MMOs that came 2, 3 or even more years after its debut.
Without wanting to take away from the good points (I'd definitely give a 8+ as well) there's two things that really annoyed me in guildwars:
1. No auction house! Spamming local chat definitely is a very serious deficiency in any self-respecting online game. Especailly when you're used to EVE and WoW.
2. Very mediocre amount of end-game. Titles or achivements are a very sorry excuse for content in my opinion. More FoW/UW like areas would have been fun, for instance.
Now some good things that haven't been emphasized a lot in the review:
3. 8-skill setup to really make specialized setups. This adds a whole new dimension to a game;
4. No stat or gear grind - a 4 day player can compete with a 6 year old veteran as level cap, best gear or skills aren't really a problem, experience only extends your versatility but by no means excludes you from gameplay;
5. Emphasis on esthetics works!! Perhaps a lot of reviewers wouldn't see the attractiveness of FoW armor sets or 15k sets or good looking gear but people have been grinding for it a lot. I loved teh sense of achievemnt to finally get my FoW mesmer set. If it was up to me, ANet would have expanded on this and introduced even more exclusive sets. Just for the looks.

My thoughts exactly! People need to understand where the high score in graphics come from, and the main reason is the art direction which the team took. It gives the game a really unique feel comapred to most modern day MMO's which in art desing manner are either WoW's comic book style like (WAR online, Allods, Runes of Magic, even Rift to some extent) or your generic and bland Asian MMO style (Lineage 2 and all it's clones). Of course there are notable exceptions (EVE, Maple Story just to name a couple).
Even comapred to today's MMO's the game provides some stunning landscapes. Most of the armour sets look pretty epic, yet somewhat realistic as opposed to the cartoony look of most gear in WoW (not saying it's a bad thing, just pointing out the difference in design). And there's a plethora of interesting creatures and races exclusive to this universe(Charr, Mursaat, Shiroken, Heket) that really birng out diversity in the fantasy genre as whole, as opposed to most Asian(Korean) MMO's where in each one there's a different name for Manga-like talking cats!
So from ART DESIGN perespective the game has aged pretty well... and to be honest even from GRAPHICS PERFORMANCE point of view, I can't really say it's on par with most current titles, but manages to stay adequate to say the least.
I have been playing now for 2.5 years. The game for me did not start until I finished the campaigns. With hard mode vanquishing and dungeons the game really came alive. I am thankful this article was created mainly because not enough attention is given to this game. I don’t want to play WOW. I like Guild Wars, and the silly arguments of this looks hentai I think that guy meant to be in the maple story thread. The game is 6 years Old and STILL looks better than WOW. But in a few more months all of this won’t matter. Guild wars 2 will be out, and all these crybabies will be converted.. Good Bye WOW!! See you later Rift!!! Great Article.. Keep up the good work, and make more!!
Good review, but I question how much time you've spent on the game if you have those builds The one dispute I have is longevity. I played Guild Wars for 4,500 hours before I really ran out of things to do. And after that I finished off titles and played PvP. So now I'm sitting at 9,000+ hours and still incredibly happy with the game.

This is not a game.
Very good review, would really much like to see more of these.

Longevity 7.0? I'm confused. It's been how long? and no end-game? what??!!!
THE ENTIRE GAME IS END-GAME! The 1-20 leveling system is basically a tutorial.
Guild Wars 2!
