Why is people defending Origin? Have we become sheeps of the big companies? Not many years ago everybody would be very upset about this.
I think it's because many years ago this would be unexpected and new. Privacy has gone away from the internet a long time ago. Just look at Facebook, the biggest rape to privacy in history, yet people love it. How can you expect ppl to be shocked about such things nowadays.
Personally i think it's wrong more and more companies try to know what, when and how i do things. I decided to stay away from FB, Twitter and all other social networks , i don't want others to know what i do.

Can someone explain me what facebook does exactly?
My friends nagged me until I had a facebook acount so they could add me, now I am there and do basically nothing.
Still curious, what does facebook do to breach my privacy?

Depends how much information you want to share about your private life with total strangers. But there are lots of things added to keep FB very close and private but you can never be too safe on internet.

You know what are the two worst parts about FB are?
A) It sucks everyone into it, i am still resisting but having everybody nagging me to join it because it's easier and all that shit doesn't help.
Even if you remain away from it it endangers your privacy. My brother once got hold of a video of me during a party because a friend put it on its FB , a friend of him saw it , showed to his sister who showed it to my brother. That's how bad it is. The only way to remain 100% safe is to not be apart of it and know NO ONE who is.
It just makes sharing information too easy for humanity's own good. It's evil and i for one would support any actions taken against it.

well I only have like 2 pictures there and then loads of ppl tagging me that end up on my wall or something, I cba with them browser games, as a result I have something like 500 requests for bricks or wood or carrots, something along these lines.
Anyway, how is the video sharing any diferent from youtube? If someone posts it and starts knocking it around the internet you'll eventually see it, facebook or not.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Steam already do this? I know their hardware surveys are optional but those are fairly detailed but I'm not sure about selling your information to third parties, even though in reality it happes all the time.
Well thing is Steam is has it optional and EA Origins has it mandatory. It is fundamental diffrence.
I am not saying Steam is good becasue it is not and I am avoid using Steam as well , but it seems EA Origins is worse.
Besides if someone else does something bad it DON'T make better if someone else do same bad thing.
If someone hit innocent person in a face does it make it less bad if I hot somebody in face as well?
Really sometimes , opinions here are like kindergarten arguments.
I am really stunned that people are alright with it. Just don't agree to it god ,what an lack of imagination lately people have...
Btw thanks OP for post I will surely post it on blog /forums.
No STEAM does not have it optional. VALVE can terminate your account without giving you any reason, SCAN your computer, OPENS PC vulnerabilities against TROJANS, both is the same rubbis, and generally cease to provide the servers for you to access without giving you any kind of compensation for the games you're allowed to play. That says their EULA. Customers allowed companies to make their own third party software, soon we will have more third party software then games.
You have to be pretty naive to believe that big companies don't hire hundreds of people to go spread the "good news" about their company and defend them anytime they can.
It's not a tin foil hat conspiracy, it's reality. Why WOULDN'T they? It's very cheap to hire someone, and defending a brand or promoting it via forums, reviews, or private messaging is not above a big company.
Think about it guys. Ignore the simple fact that there are companies and employees who earn a living doing this (including EA employees). Think about if you owned a business, and you saw revenue increases when you hired someone for pennies on the dollar, to go out and spread the word, defend the negative, and promote your product in a way that makes them appear as a normal user. Your sales increase more than it takes to pay this shill off, thus you continue to do it.
You don't have to be a conspiracy nut, but you certainly shouldn't be so naive that you think this doesn't happen. This forum alone has many who probably ARE paid to hang around here. You'll never find out though, unless you do a lot of research and are really good at finding them. In fact... one person can actually be several accounts with different IP addresses.
So you may be reading a thread in which someone is actually 5 people (4 supporters, and 1 troll, arguing with themselves to make the product look better.) How do I know this? Because I've done it before on OTHER forums.

We are talking in terms of this topic and not entire internet in general. It was really silly to jump on conclusion that since some refuse to agree to OP's point of view they are automatically EA shills.

Because there are no secrets with youtube. Everyone knows it's 100% public. FB gives a false sense of privacy. You may control who can look at your stuff but not who those show it to. Never did anything ever get in the hands of my bro but thx to FB it did. My friends didn't know that would happen, these videos were put to be only seen by buddies. In the past this could happens as well but required more efforts , the video would have had to be transferred and so on. Now it just became TOO easy for men's own good.

The greatest threat against our privacy is Facebook.
EA Origins is bad too, but nowhere close.
I know, I have to laugh at mention of concerns about system privacy when most people blantently share their very personal information on social networking sites.
Haha, I was going to mention this. Our greatest threat to security is still ourselves. "I don't want companies knowing about what music I listen to, this is BS" Next day facebook update "OMG I JUST BOUGHT THE NEW LADY GAGA CD!!!" huhwha?

Why is people defending Origin? Have we become sheeps of the big companies? Not many years ago everybody would be very upset about this.
It's not as much as defending Orgins as poinitng out that everyone's beloved Steam does exaclty same thing, and yet, suddenly EA is not allowed to do it. Speak about fanboism.
About every launcher software does collect info about your PC hardware structure, many games that require connection to itnernet collect info about your playstyle on the fly, suddenly being worried about Origin knowing what stuff you have is just simple hypocrisy and childish hate towards one of the publishers.
Anger towards EA is well-founded. They've earned the animosity. Origin information collection is a bit of a nitpicky way to show it, but I won't jump to EA's defense. I wonder why some do though. Looks like fanboism can extend to publishers as well as games.
I bet 10quid that SWTOR will be distributed with this
I think SWTOR is supposed to be the vehicle that gets the service off the ground. With so many people certain to buy the game, funneling it through Origin is a perfect way to jumpstart it.
After reading the RPS piece just posted, I think it's a lot more harmful than other EULAs that allow for similar activity. Sorry, but there just no way that I'm going to give EA free reign to poke into all aspects of my system, beyond just those few places that have to do with their products. This also allows them to gather information about all of their competitors products as well. By contrast, Steam only allows data collection related to their own stuff.
If EA wants that kind of marketing information from me about the competition, my reponse is: F*** you, pay me.
There's no way in hell I'm going to help out EA -- the last thing I feel towards them is charitable.
Ok if this is in, it will be the final straw that will make me abandon this game. Because I'm so desperate to play an MMO, I have accepted many things i don't like in SWTOR but this is jut too F much.
I know some of you will say "you weren't going to play anyway so ok" but no, i was honestly (still am if this is not in the physical game) going to try it.
Why is people defending Origin? Have we become sheeps of the big companies? Not many years ago everybody would be very upset about this.
they are defending it because they are hired to defend it don't be so naive and think marketers don't check sites like this:D
fact is, EA is trying to ruin SWTOR just like sony ruined EQ....
What nonsense!
You don't believe in professional shills that post on sites like this as opinion formers?
They're everywhere man, just like the mind-controlling fluoride in our water and all them allems harvesting our brains for meatloaf recipes (Meatloaf is required to power their thought-inserters you see.)
Data mining is so common now, if you want to play any kind of game, you just have to get used to it. In fact, if you want to be on the internet, you should get used to it.... browsers do similar things, sending information out, housing information on your system, all so when you visit a website it can gear advertisments to you.
Steam does it, impulse does it, but more importantly, you do it, every time you get on a social networking site, or post on these forums you put a piece of yourself out there. Even worse, people put much more hazardous information into games run by companies who are much more careless with your REAL PRIVATE information, such as payment information, home addresses, and more.
People are going to complain about some data mining when they go ahead and put their money in a company like SOE that loses tons of user information, or put their faith in smaller companies that end up double or triple charging on accident, and otherwise mismanage your money.
At least with things like Steam and Origins, you have a choice that, when they advertise to you, you can dismiss them and not spend any additional money. If thats the worst you get nowadays, consider yourself lucky.
I don't get the issue. So they check your hardware, so what? Stop being so ignorant, the information is gold worthy to developers so they can optimize their games for appropriate popular hardware for YOUR sake. It's not like they are checking your emails or steal your CC info.

They are checking what software you have installed, software that has nothing to do with any of EAs products, they will be monitoring what software you install and uninstall and when. Now as far as I'm concerned that's none of EAs business, it has no impact on future game development or their software. Steam only collects info relevant to its software, it doesn't monitor any software not related to games.
I don't see why we should give these companies permission to delve in to one of our private spaces to access information that clearly has nothing to do with the service we are buying. Origin won't be going anywhere near my machine.
If this info is gold worthy why give it to them for free ?
To prevent cheating I believe there really is a valid need in MMO gaming to look at what programs are currently active on your computer. But that's about it. However IMO things are starting to spiral way beyond that point now. Because apparently what these companies are essentially moving towards is requiring you to relinquish full admin control of your computer. And that's frightening. Think about it.
- All your private documents, email, browsing habits, tax and business records, etc. able to be opened, analyzed, and put up for sale (exploited).
- Etc.
So will the U.S. government step in to do anything about the problem? Not likely in my view. Because the U.S. government itself is going to be (already is) one of the prime partners in this whole scam. Firstly, congress gets to shower "industry" - the richest .1% who finance our representatives election to office - with even more power and wealth. But secondly, I think our government itself desperately wants much of the information for use in keeping "civil order". A condition which will no doubt be harder and harder to maintain as the processes of institutionalized corruption slowly and inevitably turn the United States into a beggarly 3rd world shit hole.
You know that this fine print is attached to pretty much any piece of software youve ever used? Even your web browser has fine print like this. Im sorry, but people who are freaking out about origins fine print are acting naive.
This thread is wonderful ... what a wonderful way to rile all the paranoids up.
Whats truly amazing is all the data we already give out just by acessing a website from our home computer .... and you're worried about the privacy of your hard/software.
They know where you live , oh by the way, and they might be coming to get you.
