    FFA PVP = dead game.  Its a fact of life kind of like death and taxes.  As soon as they wake up and change their game model and open up a rule set that the rest of hte world enjoys their doomed.  Darkfall really isnt in that much better shape for bascially the same reason;

You should read this thread and SV reports rather than running off at the month about your feeling towards FFA PVP.  From this report we've determined MO needs roughly 4000 accounts to break-even.  Mortal Online has sold over 17000 copies and everyone knew the ruleset.  If only half those players stayed, Starvault would making a nice profit. (thus successful) People left MO due to its shortcomings as a game, not its ruleset.

Feel free to start your own thread to discuss your feelings about FFA

I think they sold a LOT more than 17,000 copies.  They sold 10k just of the box set (ripoff with beta CD that does nothing except allow a digital download.. in an otherwise empty box).  I'd bet most people went digital since "release" over a year ago.  But that just re-enforces you point.  People that were interested in the  CONCEPT (FFA PvP) simply hated the poor implementation and left...

PS.. I find it striking that no one has traded SV stock since August 22nd...  and that includes the 1/2 year report which was released on the 25th.  There is simply zero investor interest...

This report and Gamescom wrapping up and its still stagnant, but the stock had pretty much bottomed out.

17000 was the last number I saw published, was trying to be conservative to avoid argument.

I dont think that. I think no one has done it right yet. No one wants to have to have multiple characters and take a crap load of time just to make a freaking steel sword. No one wants to have this huge crafting system that is so intricate, yet it only produces 3 or 4 weapons that are actually worth a dang. And you have to have 3-4 accounts to compete. Only a few extreme hardcore people like it.

I know the reason I bought this game, as with many others, is we basically thought it was going to be Oblivion...but online. A cool world where it's again like oblivion but people are living, and building things etc. But more of a mmo feeling.

But then most people realize it's not that, then they leave.

In beta when they had ncp's streamlining things for you and stuff was easy to get, I thought it was pretty fun (despite the awful bugs and gameplay) And dying wasn't a big deal. You would just remake stuff. Then they implemented books and slowly with each patch made this game a grind fest. With Dawn they wanted to make dying a big deal. They figured to give this game longevity...they would introduce more grind instead of features.

I repeat, each patch introduced more grind. Not features

Yeh my ideas mgiht be more "carebear" but it would be more fun, practical, and actually have a freaking population if they just made this game more streamlined, less grindy, and cater more to the average hardcore player...not the hardcore hardcore hardcore player as they are currently doing right now.

"*Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction. - Einstein"

That quote applies to this game like no other.

I agree. The problem with making an FFA PVP game grindy and "hardcore" is that most people lose, and lose lots of stuff--only people who have the most time to play get the best stuff.  And people hate losing stuff.

I'd say one of the most successful "FFA PVP" online games was PlanetSide (EVE isn't fully FFA, since most of the playerbase stays in the non-PVP areas), and one huge reason people were willing to fight and didn't care to die is because you didn't lose much by dying, and because anyone could kill anyone.

I'd take a working and polished sandbox without full loot over a buggy one but with full loot any day. Full loot is overrated. It robs the game of depth, character progression and lots of other things while the only things it gives back is adrenaline kicks for burned out mmo players and a cheap way out for designers who can't design better ways to achieve needed feeling and atmosphere.

Agreed... and if there is some statement made that might be a "grey area" we can always have the MO Community Manager pop in and set the record straight for us!

Dont see much room for "grey" in an official document.

Someone needs to read the financial report to see this statement is just not factual.

lol do you know how many times I heard this? nothing changed, its just the illusion that people are leaving in mass drove. when really the population does drop in between long patch times, but it does pick up after a patch.

If you haven't noticed these reports are often ignored by many MO fans who post here.  You'd think fans would be interested in their games finances and future. Oh well...

Hell Hanoverz I am still waiting for one of the fanbois that said the population was increasing, to come in here and say they were wrong.  Or try to pull off some voodoo economics and say it was on the up and up.
