I've searched the site, have yet to see one, so I here will ask you, all of my fellow Guild Warsians what do you want to see that has yet to be announced, has been hinted at, nodded to, etc, or stuff soooooo out of the blue that it makes no sense. I would ask that everyone be respectful, this is meant to be at best non-serious, at worst completely ridiculous. Leave a reason for your opinion, or don't, just don't troll on others please.
I am going way out there with mine.
1. I would LOVE to see the other 3 spirit animals added in in future expansions (Owl is dead in the lore, so I doubt we'll see it sadly) But Wolverine, Dolyack (Sp?), and the third that escapes me would be cool to see.
2. New races. I know a lot of people are liking the Tengu/Sensali, but I think we already have enough "Humanoid with animal traits" races, I don't want bird Charr. I know it'll be a whole lot of work on the account of them being quadropeds, and I know it's extremely unlikely, but I think the Centaur would be just so amazing. I am thinking charge racial skills, it just seems cool. I'm not a giant fan of the Quagans or the Hylek, but that is just me not liking underwater races as being too froglike.
3. New weapons. I think it is positively deplorable that the Maul and Halberd weapons are left hanging out to dry in most MMOs. I am thinking that the Maul could be Slow powerful knockback attacks, cracked armor, weakness, etc. The Halberd would give the character some reach, and they could do AoE knockdown and such. I think it would really add to the game.
4.Something especially epic I'd love to see, and I mean LOVE, is if and when an Expansion/Standalone leads us to Cantha, we get some Asian specific weapons, such as the Nunchaku, Kusari-Gama (for those of you don't know, it's a Kama [Hand Scythe] that is attached at the bottom of the haft to a chain with a weight on the other end. Another is the Tessen (Iron Fan) Which could be an off-hand weapon. It would just add soooooo much flavor to the game, for me at least. I don't know about the African weapons, you'll have to give me those, I know nothing about African warfare and weapons.
*EDIT* The Shoge is the weapon I was thinking of instead of the Kusari-Gama, although they are similar. One is a Kama on chain, the other is a simple blade with an equally long curved blade sprouting off at the base of the blade) Another one is Meteor Hammers, which are essentially big weights on two ends of a rope. Alot of binds, slows, and knockdowns.
Anywho, share your opinions people, and please be respectful.

I want a pony...and a racecar...and...and...!!! (you said ridiculous lol)
As for something realistic? hmm...I want Nicholas the Traveler to come back! (or some sort of ancestor of his) And Professor Yakkington Also, I really hope they keep Bday gifts. I haven't gotten any yet, but it's a really cool idea
As for races: Dolyak! Oh and I think the Oni would be cool too as a playable race.
Do you want some cheese with that whine?
A release date.
Dude that will never happen. I'm sorry.
We can dream, can't we?
Right now ,i know exactly what a developer is capable of doing, and if they give me anything less,i know they are about profit not making great games.
I 100% expect these things>>>>housing, full fledged crafting, mounts, multi class system[felt Rift over did it with tri class],graphics that scale top end to low end,in depth combat design, and i guess very important is i want everything to be realistic within it's concept.I want realistic clothing, shader effects ,i want a living world, not stuff that is "waiting to happen" nor do i want static npcs.
I want to see destructive surfaces,i want to see actual physics, example a player using a wand to move objects,or a giant hammer to break through walls. We saw these possibilities way back in UT99,it is very easily doable, developers are just real lazy and real cheap, they want big profits ,with small efforts.
I also have personal preferences, that are not neccessarily must haves, but i wish they were.I would like to see an eco system,a game that operates like a sim and actual death.I rather see games use the term uncomcious, but have death from aging.I would also like to see what SWTOR is attempting and that is voice overs.I really wish the mmorgp genre would start utilizing z-axis and take cover fighting. As is they are always about wide open combat, that is very unrealistic,as not everyone would just run out in the open and say shoot at me.
The ONLY game i have seen come along in the history of this genre that is attempting to bring these things forward is Archeage.I know however being the first and a Korean develoepr about free to play, their effort will not be a AAA one,but at least there is a developer trying.A-Net could be that developer,IF they wanted, there is nothing stopping them.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
+1
Wizardry for president!
I would love to see Arenanet adopt the patron/vassal with ranking within the guild system they had in Asheron's Call (1 and 2). It actually did alot to build cohesion within the guilds i played in when i tried it long ago. Ive always been surprised out of all the constant ripping off of ideas that mmo dev's engage in, ive never seen this tried anywhere else. Of course with the more realistic level cap, rather than pass-up XP, perhaps instead there should be pass-up karma which could also be used to deck out the guild hall as well as all the current items karma can grant.
first i want to see this topic removed to the guildwars2 forum , then we talk !
I want there to eventually be a martial artist class so i can fight with my bare hands.
I also want there to be a boob and butt slider.
I would also like Martial Arts and boobs.
thx.
Things I'd like to see:
1. A crafting module that allows crafters to actually design new items from scratch. There could be different modules you can purchase sepearate and activate once you reach a certain level in a certain crafting profession. There could also be an approval process of getting one's designs inserted into the game - even if it costs real cash, like a "trademarking" fee.
2. Guild types that the guild actually selects - specific kinds of crafting, or specific kinds of fighting - melee, magic, pve or pve, whatever - that actually increases advancement and provides bonuses for members as the guild levels or acquires achievements in those areas. Guilds don't have to select a type unless they wish to specialize and get bonuses.
3. Entirely tangential, non-combat systems of offline progression - As an example: I set my character to study politics while I am offline. When I come back online, I have advance to a level 1 politician. This gains me access to NPC dialogue and quests that otherwise would not be available. Or, I set my character to study dancing, singing or acting, and when I come back I am a level 1 dancer, and I have access to emotes others do not. Or, I set my character to study combat/spellcasting techniques, and learn different combat animations. Or, I set my character to study folklore, history, or any number of tangential areas that open up different aspects of the game to exploration or use, none of which by themselves increases or affects the basic combat stats or abilities of any player, but may lead to cosmetic rewards, such as variations of how NPC's treat you, what is available in your home instance, dialogue and quest opportunities, emotes, cosmetic-only gear rewards, etc.
4. The capacity in one's home instance to get married to an NPC and have children would be cool. Of course, that could be expanded to the capacity to marry another PC and have kids. Which reminds me, is it possible to visit someone else's home instance? I'd like to see a really in-depth community/relationship system in one's personal instance.
5. In shops/vendors everywhere, I'd like to see a system where there are randomly placed items of very good to excellent quality placed to keep people visiting shops and checking goods.
6. A system of very rare, random drops of something of very high value - lots of in-game cash, or "epic" tokens, or some kind of rare cosmetic item or ability or recipe - almost like a built-in lottery system, where you never know when something you kill might drop something really, really magnificent, which would give some additional impetus and interest in every fight, even if one is continually defending the same village from the same recurring attack.
Don't really care about more innovations. Just make all the stuff they've announced so far work and I'm happy.
There's always expansions ...
What i'd really like to see are World Events (obviously Dynamic Events) that involves the main city of each race; like an army of centaurs that assault Divinity's Reach or Ghost that assault the Black Citadel and so on. In those World Events every race is called to defend the capital cities from those invading army and, of course as a dynamic event should be, depending on how much the enemies made to the city or to the king/queen of the race, we should witness a change in the surroundings.
Arena Net is not implementing these features in GW2 for a specific reason, due to the design of the game. Not because of constraints in ability/resources.
Elaborate.
These features are implemented in Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars The Old Republic to a degree. I'm not sure what you have in mind though.
These features are definitely implemented into Guild Wars 2 to my knowledge.
These features are definitely implemented into Star Wars The Old Republic to my knowledge.
Many of the things you said aren't within the ability of the designers to implement because a lot of the features wouldn't fundamentally agree with the game itself. In UT, a FPS, you had temporary maps that would change back to normal when a new game began. This is why destructible environments are only seen in the PvP of Guild Wars 2(outside of dynamic events where NPC's can repair the damage), because if you could fully and permanently destroy the environment in a persistent open world then much of the game would become unusable in the first month.
Also, I don't think you have any grasp of what goes into MMO development, which dwarfs any singleplayer or traditional console/PC game by far. In terms of content and gameplay, they're building worlds that support millions of players, and many of the development costs exceed 50 million dollars. Also, a lot of these features have to agree with the game itself. You just can't stick all of these things together and expect that they'll make a perfect game. As another example, having mounts in GW2 where the maps were specifically tailored for the pace of a player moving at normal run speed would have significant impact on the illusion of scale in the world. If you could bypass content and environments with incredible ease and no attention to the awe inspiring vistas that Arena Net laid out, then you're not playing Guild Wars 2.
I remember Rohan Blood Feud having a system that sounds like that. I never played AC though. Your 'patron' got a percentage of the xp you gained. As the guild grew and got more players you'd go up in rank as those vasals became patrons to others. I didn't think very highly of that system since it was mostly beneficial to the people that were in the guild early on and the guild master pretty much determined the pecking order as he saw fit. At the bottom of the ladder players were always looking for other promising starting guilds unless the 'elite' was handing out stuff to support the poor sobs at the bottom. I don't see that being an all that great feature.
I really can't think of many innovations that haven't at least been hinted at by the devs. I could have liked mounts if there were some that could be ridden by Charr without making them look silly. I'd also dare say flight, as it seems cool, but who really needs it when you can just teleport where you need to be. And having these in game aren't innovations either since they exist in other games and could pose other problems.
There's quite a few customisation options still missing, so not sure if we'll be left wanting more in that department. I'm pretty sure we'll all want an extra slider somewhere.
There could be a few more weapon types than the ones offered at the moment. 6 one-handed, 6 two-handed and 4 offhands seems like quite a few but there are so many more weapons out there that could be interesting. No real pole-arms anywhere, no flail, no sling, no crossbow. I guess a gun could fill the need for a crossbow. But just one one handed sword and a two handed greatsword when there are shortswords, longswords, bastard swords, rapiers, etc. etc. All of these would require different skills since they're very different weapons. Not that including these weapons would be considered an innovation, but I'd still like to see more of them.
So no real innovations I can come up with that I haven't seen or heard somewhere else already. GW2 does a really good job of promising all the stuff I'd really, really like to see happening in an MMO.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
Guys if you watched alot of interview videos (like me) you will notice that devs will say 2 things
Either they say
1- This feature will not be avaible (due to the game mechanics etc...)
2-This feature will not be avaible at intial release (wich means that it will come later on expantion/dlc or w/e )
Mounts is one of the features that wont be aviable at INTIAL RELEASE but will come later.
Observer mode is another thing that wont be aviable at INTIAL RELEASE.
Be careful what you wish for, DarkPony can hear his name spoken across the multiverse....

I agree with your first one, not so sure about the second one though....
lol. I never thought of that, but would it really be a bad thing?
Do you want some cheese with that whine?
he was a beast :P yet Professor Yakkington should have some sort of past history where he had kids and had to do some epic fights to protect them :P
