Ways to powerlevel that still exist?

JammaslamJammaslam Member Posts: 265

I remember a few years ago, there was a method of powerleveling in which lowel levels could be mentored, sit inside the entrance to a mission while a high level character does the work for them while they gain xp.  Is this method still around?  I missed out on this as I wanted to follow the storyline and do missions the normal way as I was trying out City of Villains then for the first time.

However, now, I already have experienced the "journey" of doing all the missions the "right way", I have "played the game the way its meant to be played" on other characters.  Now I just want to reach the destination FAST for a character concept I have in mind, whats the best way to do that?

I just started playing City of Heroes again, and at first it seemed like there were no ways to power level, but then a level 50 asked to be invited to my "league" instead of my team. This way he was put into team 2, didn't get nearly as much xp as me, (witch didn't matter because he was level 50), and was able to heal everyone to full hp with simple auras. Apperently if you do this with more than 1 person it ruins your xp, but i haven't tryed. You could get a level 50 blaster into your team 2 and he could 1 shot like everyone. I hope this helped :)

Last time I played about a year or so ago you could still do that, Fire Controllers were also still the main class to use to do it with although even scrappers can kill large groups of mobs quickly now too.

Why not Fire Blasters? They can output amazing AoE damage, and if there level 50 its not like any real controlling is going to be going on, considering everyone will be dead before they can move :)

Get a good io'd decent 50 incarnated with +4 missions and go front load mob ticket farming. You usually find people in atlas advertising for for paid runs or doing it for free, usually if you can afford to pay the runs they are mental fast but you have to find someone who has been doing it for a while and is trusted, or you loose your influence or gain 0 xp.

However nothing is as good as it used to be but I with several accounts have levelled myself with split xp within 2 days.

Because Fire Controllers have no downtime. The maps would be spawned for 6 - 8 people and the Fire/Kin could just jump from group to group wiping everything out in seconds, never running out of endurance or health. Sure, blasters can wipe out a group of mobs quickly but they can't do it non stop meaning they are slower for power leveling purposes. It's been over a year so I imagine things may be different now, but thats how it used to be anyway.

That shouldn't actually work as I understand it, and if it does it's probably a bug/exploit they'll patch out once it comes to their attention.  It might actually be an oversight due to their changing the leagues so that the different teams within the league would share the XP gains.

Standared plvl method 1:  have a healer max level follow you, but not in group and heal you, buff you.  Up till level 30s your max level will hardly be hit/hurt.

Standard plvl method 2: have a friend slightly underleveled for that zone, have him team with you, you have to be within certain number of levels lower than this alt or friend.  I think the max level dfference is 5 levels when you start as level 1, and as you level up this max level difference goes up by one level every now and then.  Say you are level 1, find a level 6 friend and go to level 10 zone.  Find a level 50 to buff/heal the level 6 and let him kill.  You stay safe and level up every 10 minutes.  When you hit say level 4 ditch your level 6 and find a level 9, go to level 13 zone, repeat.

Farming generally hasn't changed. Some new FotM's have come and gone (mostly come), missions have been nerfed, but the practice goes on. As of June this year, AE farming is still alive and well if you know where to look.

Here's an actual thread if you don't know where to start, I doubt any of them will be nerfed because the missions are genuinely more difficult and give more xp, so you'll need a higher level running for you if you're a lowbie:

Also, keep an eye on Arena channel or the globals once Freedom hits, there'll be plenty of new people wanting their shinies and farms abound. Hell, hit me up and I'll happily help veterans out, I just take issue with clueless new people with level 50s running around.

Remember, it has to be fun to be a game. Grinding is a bedroom activity, and the point is definitely not to do my wife as fast as possible.
