I've always had a thing for the sneaky, brains-over-brawn types. Back in the days of yore, square wheels, and Advanced D&D, I had a thief/illusionist (not a gnome, yuck). Had the absolute worst hit points ever, but had access to a range of abilities that made me deceptive and versatile.
Of course, the GW2 thief will be loaded for bear, and that suits me fine as well. Probably go with sword/pistol (have a witchhunter in WAR that I absolutely adore...killing a witch elf with a point blank blast to the face is disturbingly enjoyable) with the option for switching to double pistol.
My only problem is do I roleplay him as a devil-may-care swashbuckler charmer type, or more of a gritty, tenacious hold-out with a grimmer perspective on life. Ah, decisions.

I do love the Blade&Pistol concept of witch hunter, and will probably have a thief as an alt with pistol/sword.
Altho, WE were much better at the start of WAR, i had WH tears for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Burn Away Lols just wasnt fair when they buffed it

Agreed. WE were insane during the very early stages of WAR. Very deadly, very fast.
Then 1.4 came and BAL was just...crazy good. I've come back after a long hiatus and now everyone has Worn Soveriegn and I'm still fumbling around in Invader, almost Warlord, with 55 dps weapons. The pain I get dished out now is...well, I'd rather not talk about it until I grab 15 more RR.
Ranger (Sylvari). I always play bow users in MMOs first, I LOVE the look of the weapon and ranged fight is more fun than melee. Too bad archer chars fail in most games, so they better make them decent (like in GW1). ^^
Note that Thieves can use shortbows and Warriors can use longbows. And then there are also pistols and rifles of course for even more ranged weapon options usable by Engineers, Thieves and Warriors. The Ranger is far from the only ranged combatant nor is the Ranger only a ranged combatant (since the Ranger can also wield swords and greatswords).
I'm not sure if you can make a pure ranged warrior and be really effective. I think they might have them there just so you can use ranged weapons should you need to, or just to spice up things a bit once in a while. I might be wrong though, and if so my b lol.

Anet specifically stated that using ranged weapons as a warrior would be effective, not just for pulling or doing some minor damage before switching to a melee weapon set or something.
I think its strange to see the elementalist so low.... its a very very diverse class... the caster many of us have allways bee dreaming about... and then people are not going to play it...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I think the elementalist is kind of weird due to only having one weapon and four attunements. It's almost like your choice of weapon determines whether you're short, medium or long range, and then you can have damage, support and control options at that range.
You end up with probably more skills available overall than any other class, but you're also kind of limited at the same time. Like if you're a warrior, you can decide you really like this Greatsword skill and also this Longbow skill. With an elementalist, you decide you like a Staff Fire skill and then you're stuck with whatever the rest of the attunements give you.
I plan on playing one, but I'm more interested in the Guardian I think. I'm also probably odd because Thief is for some reason probably my least favorite class and I'm not sure I'll get around to playing one.

Necro for now, might change my mind closer to release.
Thief for me, definitely.

Anyways, back on topic. Yay GW2 thieves!
