Everyone talks about how a launch is extremely important for the impact game will have on industry, well what better impact than to release a MMO the day before a holiday? Then you wont have to call in sick! *cough**cough*

Economy is fine where i am.
But the OP is missing the point.
A games launch is important, but not so much for the exact day, but more about how it is recieved/runs on launch day.
LOL, on the day SWTOR launches expect the GNP of several western nations to take a slight dip.

More then half of my class was missing when Cataclysm was released..
The best day to release a game is when it is ready.
Also, the game company will need a bunch of employees on hand to fix whatever goes wrong at launch, and they probably won't be terribly thrilled to have to come in in the middle of a three-day weekend.
best time is actually in and around xmas .. mmo populations generally dip in the summer time. in the winter .. what else are you going to do when it's 5 degrees outside and the kids are on xmas break?
day before labor day might be the worst day of the year to release honestly as everyone is about to start school.
LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already

Actually around 4th of july. Seems to me almost everyone trys to take there vacation if they can in july. at least where ever i worked they did.
that said if u have a product people want blizzard has proven release date doesnt matter.
