Bioware's Stephen Reid has announced that the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta event scheduled for the upcoming weekend is cancelled in preparation for the new build of the game.
In addition, Reid announced that the release of the new beta client will require several rounds of internal testing, which leaves the rest of the beta events for September up in the air.
As with any new build of the game, we need to get feedback from internal testing and our ongoing Game Testing program before rolling it out to a massive audience. That process takes a while, and that time varies depending on how testing goes.
We rolled out this previous weekend as a relatively small scale event; from now we will do bigger and bigger events, but that doesn't mean it happens every weekend. When we do resume, we'll be inviting many more people in.

It's been heading this way since the delay of the EU client, no real surprise really. I just hope it doesn't delay things to much in the long run.
"Beta." I think this should sum it up, and as such is there really any need to worry or have a problem? Ill happily wait if it means there doing things right, which they seem to be.
why I no can haz betaz? me wantz 2 ply. this mmoz is fails. what is bug tikit? me just wants free gamez.
One possible subtext for this announcement would be:
"We've given them a tiny nibble at the carrot. Now that they are frenzied with desire, it's time we moved the carrot further away again. We might also stimulate more pre-order sales this way, because some people might think that pre-ordering now will still give them a better chance in the now delayed beta-testing schedule.
Either way, suspending beta-testing at this stage will cause alot of forum discussion and game site news reports, so it keeps the hype going nicely."
This might not be too far from the truth. I received ANOTHER email yesterday around the same time as the beta delay announcement urging me to pre-order SWTOR if I hadn't already.
Personally i see it as a good sign. I am assuming most of the feedback they recieved made them ready to push out the new built into internal testing, which at least means they are moving the game ahead. Had there been tons of negative feedback I could see them sitting on the new build for a while longer while they adressed concerns about the game.

I would not consider this stage what one would call a traditional beta but rather like Rift, an open beta. Like Rift they have changed the terminolgy. Traditionally betas have been for testing. Like Rift the real testing is by the Alpha testers and the beta weekends are just marketing.
I figured as much since I didn't get an invite. I like how I got an email hitting me up for preorder the day.
No more preorders, no more lifetime subs.
Alot of people i know, myself included received a preorder email these days. This delay is an obvious marketing trick to lure more preorders in. But who cares, they wanna make money,im with them. Still not preordering tho.
The fact that they're not afraid to go back and fix stuff gives me hope. If they delay the game, so be it. I'd rather wait an extra six months and get the game I expect to pay for rather than they simply rush it out the door and fit into the stereotype of a typical MMO company.
I'm confused, Is this the pre-order beta weekend? If so did my collecter's addition pre-order get me nothing?
Jeez. I can imagine a lot of upset people. I'm personally on the "hyping it up more" train, a little. I also got a email yesterday making sure I didn't "forget" that pre-ordering allows beta access.
Either way, it sucks.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Maybe it would be better to announce beta weekends closer to the time in future when they can be more sure that they wont have to cancel them . This sort of thing inevitably feeds the trolls . The problem is these days if a beta isn't any good the game will get panned before its actual release so really if you are going to allow players to beta test it you have to be pretty sure everythings going to go relatively smoothly . I've a feeling when the testing does start the game will be quite polished . Although maybe its going to take a month or two longer to get to that point and maybe a later release date in early to mid 2012.
Two game shows in a row anouncing beta weekends and now it looks like the entirety of September is cancelled? More of the WAR crew must've gone over to Bioware than origially thought.
I understand beta test weekends are a fluid situation, but it seems like there was a major communication gap internally, never mind between Bioware and the fans.
If you don't worry about it, it's not a problem.
The beta weekends are nothing like an open beta because you still need an invite to get into them. They are closed betas, but with lots of people invited.
Reading this thread I've never seen more wailing and gnashing of teeth. Be calm folks, they are working on the game, it will come out eventually, you are not entitled to a beta invite or for a release date, this delay in beta weekends means that the game will be that much better when it does finally release.
Actually they have already announced that they plan on doing another weekend in September in their OFFICIAL FORUMS. Way to jump on the "Doom" bandwagon though.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
everey delay is actually a GOOD thing in beta.
don't rush it bioware!
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"
QFT! It actually means they are working on the damn game.
No, your preorder got you head start, not beta.
If there was ever a potential for SW:TOR to fail, it would be listening to the people whom are complaining about the beta delay or not getting into beta.
'Lulz tis game sux, too buggy n shiz. FAAAAAAAIL!' is what I picture what would happen if these kinds of people are let into the beta, which probably already are to an extent. Wasting BioWare's time and potential players whom want to help the game succeed in order to prejudge a game before release.
Even though I am in the red zone. If I did have a chance for beta, I would not sign up. Not only would I prefer to experience the game the first time when it is done, but I can not be assed to work for free and would just be wasting the time of the developers. Therefore I don't really care too much about beta test delays and much prefer BioWare to do it right with a tester who is competent.

Not that i can say anything offical the delay is more because the next build is being released soon and this build is a huge update doing a beta weekend with an old build will just get you bug reports and complaints from things that most likely are fixed or changed and if they do a beta weekend this weekend you would have to download a 37 gb client than download another 37 gb client next weekend. People need to stop being so dramatic and think why they might be doing this.
What really makes me laugh is the same people who're saying this game will fail look they delayed a beta weekend are the same people who would be here 5 minutes after the game is out complaining about the game if they released it before it was done.
...And so it begins.
I figured it would be a matter of time when EA found a way to screw this game up. EA never fails to find ways to dissapoint.
Bioware is owned by EA for thosee who don't know.
GLOOOOMMMM!!!!
DOOOMMM!!!!
GLOOOOOOOM AND DOOOOM!!!!!
So putting the brakes on in order to improve the released version is screwing things up?
Sounds like it's exactly what needs to happen in order to improve the odds for a smooth release.
This isn't the deal here.Since if you get in a testing weekend, then you have like 0,1% chance to join another beta weekend.
Also, people aren't saying it will fail, they just want the game released before 2012.
