I'll admit, my knowledge of the old Vampire world is limited to the CCG and Bloodlines video game, but I get the impression that a lot of people really prefer to new World of Darkness over the old world. Why the division? What's so different between the two worlds?

I think it's as much or more that people who are displeased with it are making more noise than those who are ok and happy with it.

From what I have heard from the Devs is that the setting will be oWoD, however, they will use things from nWoD if they feel it works better. 'They are more concerned with creating a great MMO experience than being an exact recreation of the the TT.' is the gist of it.

I agree, and this kind of logic is what gives me faith in CCP to make this a great game.

Its an mmo based on Vampire The Masquerade.   Im not sure why people have to be picky.  I day dreamed as a teenager (29 now) about one day making an mmo based on it.  Of course I never got into the industry.  It was just a pipe dream.

But now they're making one.  I would have never imagined it.  Fans of any sort should just be happy.  Im not sure what kind of mmo it will turn out to be, but I have to give them props for just making the attempt.

It's a matter of preferences because oWoD essentially had a pre-built setting with major factions, individuals, historic events, etc. Now this is all alright if you've been following the game aka getting and reading them books from the get-go, but for someone just getting into oWoD? It was a borderline impossible task because there's so much stuff out there. On the other hand, you have nWoD which is basically built like a sandbox with all the possible parts given to ST with a memo saying "build your own stuff, have fun" and getting new books simply gives you more sand and toys to play with , but they're not in any way mandatory because there's no overarching "metaplot" to follow (well, Mages kinda get it, but it's not worth notice compared to oWoD).

Basically, these 2 worlds are different on conceptual and design level. From a more mechanical POV nWoD wins because it has and improved and tighter ruleset and facilitates cross-over play between various supernaturals, if that's your thing.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
