Found a huge mine shaft on creative mode and on multiplayer I found three diamonds in the first two minutes of gameplay. So far things are looking really good.

Haha yeah... also if you mine through walls around the mine shafts you should find more mine shafts with monster spawners and stuff... basically they are endless networks of mines.
To those who don't get what this game is about - Minecraft is essentially a game that allows you to use your imagination to build whatever you want; think LEGO with a mixture of strategy and roguelike game elements (I use those terms loosely).
- There's Creative which is you playing the game with unlimited resources. In other words it's free-building. Well, what would you build? To put it simply; whatever you want. Many people like to build cool 'architectural' buildings, pieces of art.. even awesome constructions like this this.
- Then there's Survival which is where you spawn in a world and basically live off the land. An example of gameplay would be something like this: you start in an area and then explore the world until you find a place in which you think is the ideal location (aesthetic, resources, etc). Then from there you gather resources and create tools to help you build a little home/camp. At first this small home is just something for you to store your items and to keep you out of harms way from enemies. But as you continue to play you'll gather more resources and eventually expand your camp into a rather large fortress with farms, mine shafts, minecart stations, traps, etc. The only real goal is for you to survive (at least in the current build of Minecraft).
I should also note that this can also be played in multiplayer. You can join a group of friends or even play on a surver with dozens of players.

If the graphics look dated on purpose, then I'll make sure to steer away from it on purpose too.
I wouldn't say the graphics are meant to 'look dated'. The graphics are stylized. It's designed in a style that, yes, pays tribute to older games, but at the same time is meant to be kind of timeless; meaning in ten years the graphics won't look like what Counter-Strike 1.6 is today.

Yeah ive always felt the game could be farther in developement if Notch wasnt the person running the show. I mean its a basic concept that many other games have just as good if not better.
I think its cute how the poster below you suggests more programmers as though you can buy those at a dime a dozen at the local 7-11.
I normally agree with you, but do you know how much Mojang is making? A lot. They definitely have enough money to hire extra people to the team. They're not exactly a small-profit indie team. Heck, I'm sure there are people who would work minimum wage/intern for Mojang..
But the problem is due to Notch not wanting to hire new people because he feels this is his creation and doesn't want other people changing that. You know the old saying, "too many cooks spoil the broth." On top of that he's very picky with who he wants on his team.
This build brings a lot of amazing additions to Minecraft that I personally feel is needed, however, I'm wanting it to be mostly a surprise.
Though I haven't really played Minecraft in months. I think the game has a lot of potential, but the way I enjoy playing the game just isn't a way that this game supports. What I mean by that is I simply don't enjoy spending hundreds of hours creating my fortress to completely start all over again just because Notch is adding new stuff.
I realize that if a new biome is released (for example) you can go venture off an it'll randomly be generated.. but the thing is.. I only play this game on multiplayer. So if I'm in a world that's already generated, well with the release of a major update they have to reset and generate a new world.

It has a ton of potential which is why the player base is growing every day in the thousands. 1.8 made me want to play it again after quitting back in early 1.3 I think when I built a egyptian temple. Im glad they made the world seem more real, as the previous formations looked fake and dull.
My version says 1.9.2 but it can't connect online and says 1.7.3 when it's in the game. Been like that for a couple months. It's a good game for about a week. But really it's endless fun if you like creating towns, statues or whatever else you want etc. You can even flood the world with lava although it makes it crash! Lol.
Thats odd, prolly a glitch. And yeah I love filling the world full of water or lava.
