Hi, I want to buy a flight simulator game for pc, also peripherals, as I will be at US for 2 weeks, however I have lost track of what has been of the genre in the last 15 years, and I imagine that now there are several good ones, I have done some research on the web but I am kind of confused,
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks!

Think it's Microsofts Flight Simulator.
If you like Combat aviation, try the DCS series. DCS Blackshark and DSC A-10c are excellent. Also Lock-0n Modern Air Combat is excellent. I hope this helps!
I've heard good things about Flight Gear, but have never tried it myself.

Thank you guys!, any other advice will be welcome.
Thanks!
For WW1 combat try Rise of Flight, which has a free unlimited demo.
I have Flight Simulator X and Rise of Flight.
Rise of Flight is amazing, but you need a kick ass system to run it the way it should be run.
FSX is also amazing with all the addons you can get like sceneries and aircraft. Again, you need a really good system to take advantage of everything.
DCS Blackhawk is sweet simulator, but too many controls to master if you want realistic. Hell, I think it takes like a half hour of checks before you actually fly in the realistic mode. If you want to get in the air quick, play in arcade. I have this sim also, but didnt really like it that much.
Best Flight Simulator to try out now? Depends on what you're after. If you're after civil, peaceful flying, I can't help you.
If you're into combat flight sims, then I can.
For WWII flying, I suggest finding one of the IL-2 Sturmovik collections.
For modern stuff, Lock On: Modern Air Combat (LOMAC) is a good one, a sort of "survey sim" since it allows alot of aircraft to fly.
The DCS series is also very hardcore in learning curve. If that's your thing, they have Black Shark (Russian Ka-50 gunship), A-10 Warthog.
By concidence, you can get this for pretty cheap. It has IL-2, Pacific Fighters (offshoot off of IL-2 series, by same devs), and LOMAC.
Also I recommend one of the old, but still hard to beat Falcon 4.0 (for some F-16 action). You can get Falcon 4.0 Allied Force for pretty cheap. Got a bit of a curve, but an absolutely badass Dynamic Campaign System.
A video for inspiration when you fly.
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
If you're a hard core flight sim junkie, DCS sims are the cream. The learning curve is incredibly steep and reading the manual (all 600+ pages) is mandatory. A-10 in particular is excellent. Don't bother unless you find spending a few weeks just learning the very basics like your pre-flight checklist and arming a missile is something you have the patience for. As for realism, nothing approaches it.
Best combat flight sim has got to be IL-2 Sturmovik. If you're new to flight sims though you may have difficulty flying, it's not very forgiving. You'll also definately need a flightstick for this one.
It still has a huge following and many mods.
GOOD CALL! I have the same peripherals as you do. I love it. TrackIR is a must for flight sims.
I played that game for months and actually joined an online Squad. They made these missions we were required to fly. We even had ranks and training nights. You had to accomplish certain missions to get promoted.
Land and take off from a carrier so many times. (This was incredibly hard)
Land and take off from an airfield.
Dog fighting
And a slew of other training missions. I resigned after a few months because it became more like work than fun.
The worse thing was, when we few a combat mission and you performed excellent, but crashed while landing on the carrier, the whole night was wasted and you got zero credit. I was a nervous wreck after those missions. I did get some medals though.
IL-2:1946 is sadly the best WW2 experience out there.
I say sadly because I wish I could recommend IL-2: Cliffs of Dover. But it's probably a year or so worth of patches away from being as good as the previous titles.
To the OP
I've dabbled with flightsim's for over 25 years now.
If your interested in Civilian flying, there really is only two choices today:
Microsoft Flight Simulator X
X Plane 9
An excellent site for information about any and all flightsim's is www.avsim.com
hope this helps
