I'm sure this has been asked already, and if you're offended by the fact that I'm only slightly interested in this game, and not enough to be bothered with searching this forum for opinions, then oh well.

This anything like Aion?

To be more specific, I liked the character customization graphics and sound scheme of Aion, nothing else. Should I expect the same from this?

Graphics and sound are probably on par. Way less customization. Most armor in Rift is just copy/pasted from low level to higher level.

I'd love to sell you my copy of the game, but I've already used the CD key.

    Aion is way better.

Aion at least had some challenge in it and didnt reward whiners.

aion didnt drop their drawers and make the game easy for a 4 year old within 3 weeks of launch.

yeah Aion didn't do what the subscribers want. Look how that turned out for them. 2.6k MB Sorcs still destroying people in pvp? This game is more in the genre of EQ2/WoW, so if you know what that means then you know what to expect.

Hate is still active on Briarcliff I believe and the only Aion peeps I know that left were the ones who cap'd out the pvp gear in the first week because they grinded so hard.

This game is far better then Aion

    ^^^^

Aion lasted a bit longer than RIFT.

You either put up with it or you didn't.

NCsoft maintained the credibility of the game by ignoring much of the whining from the kiddies and the people that dont get what mmos are about.

Trion sold out within less than a month by nerfing.   They continue to sell out by discounting their product and thus discounting the value of any account.

Not really anything to do with the actual games/gameplay itself .. it is to do with what the publisher/developers did/do.

yer maintained credibility by not properly fixing their shit, having terible cm's, not banning bots, letting exploiters run rampant and having shit for content. Yer, nice cred y0

Here's the opinion of someone who's come from aion (2ish years 55 character and such).  While Aion has "Potential" it still requires too much time per day to progress and relies way too much on rng.  I think it'll get better in time but we're talking now not the unknown future.  Rift's better.  That is if you aren't someone who plays 12+ hours a day.  If you are you'll run out of things to do within a few months.(especially if your not a raider).  The chara customization is fine and the rifts are actually pretty fun.  It's far more casual friendly and allows for people who don't have a lot of time much like WoW.  The progression is smooth and without the OMG I need an attack speed bow to even get a group thing...

As far as difficulty it's pretty darn hard if you plan to raid.  They also are adding a mastermode within a month or so which is basically the innitial hard mode that so many here are complaining about them dumbing down with a few new tricks.  If you aren't into raiding or such things they will be adding a solo or duo dungeon that actually requires some thinking... as opposed to Aion's solo dungeons.. with actual rewards.  PvP is pretty good.  It's not DAoC but no game really is.  It's "on call" which is what I really wanted.  Lots of warfronts and more added all the time.  You'll find certain classes being the "flavor of the month" but with the calling system it's not all that tough to stay competitive.

The real star of the show is the fact you can mix and match your callings or class.  Of course you find a general template used for certain situations but in most cases you have leeway to make the class you want to play.  Everything else is more or less WoW with better graphics.  Having all  the WoW basics.  Most notably for me the LFG system for instances which allows me to get in and out quickly without stress one click and a few minutes and your golden.  One last thing of note... these guys add major content updates every 6 weeks or so.. they take the fact you pay a sub seriously and while not perfect and there have been a few bugs found in much of that content they fix it rather quickly.  It's refreshing coming from games like Aion where the updates generally are months in the making.  Still it wouldn't hurt for you to wait if your not enthused about the game.  It'll only get better with time as do most mmos.  Wait until something in it really calls you then think about it.

I have always wondered why people post stuff asking others to " sell " them on buying or subbing to a game.

Not trying to be confrontational or ugly but why would I give a rats ass what you buy or play?

If you cant take the time to inform yourself on something you may wanna buy then why should anyone else bother?

So I will just have to say, no rift is not for you, look elsewhere .
