Those restrictions are only for Bronze(free) and silver(one time 10.00) packages. If you pay the 14.99 for gold, like the live subscription, you don't have any restrictions other than race choice.
Does it seem okay to you that you have race restrictions while paying what we're all paying over on the live servers and we have NO restrictions?
Correction: I play on live and have race restrictions. I have been paying a sub for over 7 years and have purchased every single expansion. I still can't roll a vampire.
Anyhow, that had nothing much to do with the rest of the topic. EQ2x is terrible and i would never recommend for anyone to try it. If you're going ot play eq2, play live or don't bother. If you want to play a freemium title - LoTRO is a lot better structured (and is a better game for the types of people that would enjoy the EQ2x version of eq2.)

I wholeheartedly agree with what you said here. Oh....and vampires are pretty new and I forgot all about them. They are the ONLY restriction we have on the Live servers as far as I've ever seen in almost 7 years. I guess I've never cared about playing a vampire so it didn't matter to me. But, like you said....I would never suggest EQ2X even if the server is a bit busier, it's not ENOUGH busier than my server to make me consider a move.
EQ2 is a great game. So much to do. I always hate to see people nerf their experience by trying to play on Freeport. But I guess some people don't see it that way.
If I already had a 90 or had a different play time I would still be on live. BB at 11pm-12am PST does not have a desirable population, neither does AB for that matter. I have both versions for the next 5 days and I looked for every reason to stay with live but it just didn't make sense. Yes the race restrictions are a money grab, I know that. I don't play those other classes so it doesn't affect me. Your point is based on principle and I respect that but if it bothers you so much why play EQ2 at all? Your answer is the same as the reason why I moved to X. I traded races I didn't need for a lot more players to play with.
Yes well that and the fact that EQ2 was getting forgotten amongst the shiny new MMOs coming out. How would Everquest 2 have fared without the inclusion of the store and EQ2X? The industry did finally stop producing big budget games so close together hence why people IMO have gravitated back towards quality games. If SoE hadn't acted though there could be less of a development force than there is now. Let's not forget the fallout from the hacking issues. Whether live or X or wanting Freebloods we should all be happy SoE made it work if we like EQ2. as far as Freebloods are concerened it broke their "all in one Xpac" mantra but if you bought the expansion didn't you get the Freebloods as an in game perk?
I guess it all depends on what is important and what we find fun in the game. I like leveling, crafting, adjusting the AA slider and farming AA, gathering shinies, playing on the broker, twinking alts, and putting achievements in my house. Those things are what l like to do when I'm playing EQ2. While Freeport is vibrant, I can't do those things freely like I can on Live.
Ive played all 3 EQ2 Live, EQ2X , LOTRO
personally I didnt like LOTRO
if you pay monthly on EQ2X, the only money grab is other player races
- if you dont care about player race selection, then you have the same freedom as Live as a gold member
Correction: I play on live and have race restrictions. I have been paying a sub for over 7 years and have purchased every single expansion. I still can't roll a vampire.
If, as you claim, you have every expansion and were continuously subscribed for the past year, then YES YOU CAN. The Freeblood unlock is waiting for you to /claim it.

Even the unlock doesn't give you the full Freeblood race as you end up missing the key racial abilities and animations. Plus that was a limited promotion, so anyone that has a live sub now doesn't have access to it.

QFT and yes this is another money grab on SoE's part to pay the bills which brings us back to the original topic. If EQ2 has a cash shop and freemium optioned server why should someone play?
EQ2 is arguable the deepest PvE MMO out there right now in pure content and things to do. Even if you decide to go totally free (EQ2X, bronze) you will still be able to see all the content (minus the latest expansion) though it could be a pain depending on your tolerance level. If you look at how many xpacs and content updates there have been since '04 it's huge.
If you want to play but dont know if you should go with EQ2 Live or EQ2X my suggestion would be to download both the free trial for EQ2 Live and the streaming client for EQ2X (only because it's faster to get in game). Log into both and check out population levels and guilds for your play time. EQ2 has a great player search system able to filter by level, class, etc. Also check out the "Guilds" section to see who is recruiting and see how many members are on at the time.

So you can use Mythical gear too? Gold players are going on mythic weapon runs on Freeport?
I don't know, but I seem to remember reading that this is not the case. I hope I'm wrong, because honestly, I think EQ2X gets screwed with having to pay MORE for all the same advantages as the Live servers. If I remember correctly, you have to pay a year in advance to get on X what we get on Live. AND....it ends up costing more than 15 bucks a month too......

Actually, you're correct, you pay more to play EQ2 Extended vs the live servers. Why do I pay then to play there? Because we have a steady stream of new players constantly trying the game, so there's always new blood in the starter zones (over full in some cases), plenty of life to be found. Worth every extra cent I pay as opposed to playing on a mostly dead server with nothing but maxed out players.

Unless I'm missing something luckily (for me, heh) you are wrong:
The matrix is at the bottom of the page, equipment grades are full access. To be fair though they have been tweeking the X model for a while now. There used to be MC gear that was purchasable with SC but as it stands only crafting mats can be bought along with arrows.

So really then the big deal is that you only get 4 races to choose from as a gold member paying the same as on Live servers. I have access to all the races for free except for vampires. Thanks for linking that chart.
Man I still think that is a rip off considering you're paying the same amount of money. Sorry. I have yet to see a good argument for leaving my home on Everfrost and moving to Freeport server. I don't think I'm ever going to hear anything compelling enough.
I am, however, happy for people that have found ways to play EQ2 (or EQ2X) that satisfy them. I think it's a very special game and it will always have a special place in my heart, much the same as UO does.
Agreed, EQ2 is a fantastic game. If I could get on to play before 10pm I would have stayed on Live. If you can already group and or raid I would see no reason to move either but X is a good alternative. I've been talking to a few people about playing and I hope they try it out.

Ive been a gold member for over a year since server launch
Gold has always shared same full freedom as Live except the player race restriction (and guild creation)
SOE has improved the matrix for Silver members-- and added item unlockers for Bronze/Silver members
I agree that pricewise, EQ2X Gold is priced poorly when compared to EQ2Live
- EQ2X only gets 4 players races
- EQ2X gets no multimonth discounts like EQ2Live where you can pay as low as 10.00/mo for a year
personally, I dont buy multimonth for any mmo
the race restriction doesnt bother me and I prefer the larger "low level" playerbase on EQ2X server
I raid on EQ2X but its nice to see many players at all levels
