After reading some of the patch notes, etc.. it seems they are still not sure direction the want to go on some of the classes in tis game.. it's to bad because I would like to come back, but I am not going to spend time and money on a class and then all of a sudden they change it..  sad, sad, sad... guess I will hold off for another few months, but by then, something else maybe out that I will want to try..

Been there done that:
Asherons Call,SWG,AOC,D&D,COH,Anarchy Online,DAOC,EVE,Guild Wars,LOTRO,POTBS,WAR,WW2, and Rift

I'll take my bets on Rift still honestly. GW2 pvp model is still theoretical and needs to hold up to the litmus test of the min/max'rs. Has ToR confirmed pve and pvp damage separated like Rift? I know they are going to be in the same situation and you are crazy to believe otherwhise.

The thing with Rift is kind of funny lol. They develope so fast that they also fix OP classes so fast. FOTM in WoW actually should have said "flavor of the patch" because in WoW a class could be OP for over 4-5 months before a nerf came with a patch.

Trion seems more trigger happy to put a nerf into a hotfix and that is catching people off guard. If you are waiting for some perfect balance and no changes, then I suggest going back to consoles because it is never going to happen.

Overall it's a really solid game. I had tons of fun with this game until I got to level 50. I t was fun for my first week of level 50 until I realized on my low-pop server there are only a few guilds that end game raid, which I find to be really tedious and boring anyways and the PvP progression is ridiculously slow. I was playing 8+ hours a day and it's taken me a month or more to get Prestige Rank 5 out of 8 in PvP. It wouldn't be so bad if the PvP was actually entertaining but it's really dry and probably one of the worst games for PvP due to the neverending class balancing act that this game will be doing. But that's what happens when they allow so much freedom between mix/matching classes. They will continue to nerf the most overpowered class and there will be a new FotM build each patch, it never fails.

Yeah, buffs and nerfs happen. If Trion can improve the pvp in the game I am all for that.

I played it and I agree that the PvP needs to be worked on.. Gotta love those Rift Death Squads however.. So much killing went on that day.

With free weekly server transfers it's a perfect MMO to come back on. There are a lot of players that made it to 50 and were on a shard with a horribly low population. With the transfer system that is a nonissue now. There are plenty of guilds right now still progressing through Hammerknell and most are still recruiting for progression spots granted you're gear where you need to be ie: hit/focus/toughness.

Also on a note Trion seems very active with major patch releases. 1.5 is at most a week or so away and 1.6 is only a few months after that. I wont begin to explain all the additions and changes in 1.5 but I do know an AA system will be one of them along with some stat changes for Clerics and Warriors.

Or just hold out for ToR and GW2, play them nonstop for the month and move on to the next new MMO expecting something innovative and original but never getting it.

Why should pvp progression be made easier? Its perfectly fine the way it is. If they speed it up then I would consider quitting.

Now as for constant class balancing I hate to tell you but it happens in all mmos, get used to it. Nothing is ever perfect and it never will be nomatter how long you play.

It's not that they don't know where they want to go. Trion has great damage control. When an issue arises it's fixed in a day, sometimes half a day. When you decide on an MMO, IMO, you should look for these things.

    • Play-style

If you enjoy the type of MMO it is. Does it cater to your play-style? Is the learning curve too steep for me? Are the classes and abilities too basic for me? RIFT has a generic MMO feel while allowing you to further their class system to fit your style.

    • Community

When you look at an MMO, it's sometimes a good idea to check it's forum activity. Remember; this is a multiplayer game. You will be interacting with others. Usually you just check to see if the posters mostly troll others, or complain about the game being a 'WoW clone'. If the player base is really helpful and active, you can ensure you will enjoy your experience. Remember to look in server threads too, since every server is different.

    • Developer

The most overlooked aspect. Typically you can tell the future of an MMO by the way the developers assess issues. If it takes them month's to see new content, you might want to take that into consideration. If they break a lot of their promises, you can assume it'll happen again. Habbits die hard.

    • Price and Cost.

MMO's are an investment, of both time and money. If you are getting into MMO's, you should learn what you are getting into before you sink your time and cash into it. What's the End-game like? How are the rates? Is the content worth the fee?

TL;DR: RIFT is a great MMO with a lot of potential from the developers. While it is familiar to your other hotbar MMO's; that's not typically a bad thing. It allows you to pick up and player very quickly. Since RIFT is contanstly adding content, fixing balance issues, and interacting with their player-base through community events (Half-Birthday, Childrens Miracle Netork gaming marathon..)

If you enjoyed RIFT, play it. It's well worth it.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
