Atmospheric Flight
Atmospheric flight is allowed on any of the original 10 ground planets (Corellia, Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor, Lok, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Tatooine, and Yavin 4).
Use the Launch Ship radial menu option from the ship control device in the datapad to launch the ship into atmospheric flight. You can also launch the ship into atmospheric flight using the toolbar.
Use the Land Ship radial menu option from the ship control device in the datapad to land/store the ship from atmospheric flight. You can also land/store the ship from atmospheric flight using the toolbar, or the newly added /landShip command.
Once in flight, use the newly added /inviteShip (or /target , followed by /inviteShip) command to invite passengers/gunners aboard the ship (either POB ship or non-POB ship with a currently unoccupied turret slot).
Passengers/gunners can leave the ship by using /escapePod or the escape hatch.
The ship owner can kick passengers/gunners off the ship using the existing /kickFromShip command.
You can launch directly into space from atmospheric flight. Once the ship is above 6000m altitude, an "ENTER SPACE" button will be displayed on the pilot's HUD that will allow direct launch into the corresponding space zone. Clicking the button will display a popup menu to select the space zone's hyperspace point to launch to.
If the ship hits the terrain while flying, it will sustain damage proportionate to the ship's current mass and speed.
All forms of ship-to-ship PvP are available while in atmospheric flight - factional and privateer factional helper (/spacepvprebel, /spacepvpimperial, /spacefaction), player bounty system, guild war, guild squad PvP, duel.
Player bounty system and guild war exemption/exclusive status fall under the "space" ruleset while in atmospheric flight.
If the ship is special forces (including privateer factional helper special forces ship) while in atmospheric flight, GCW factional presence is granted to occupants with the same faction as the ship, regardless of the occupant's special forces/combatant/on leave status. If any occupant is granted GCW factional presence, the ship is reported on the GCW Factional Presence window of the War Terminal/War Intel Pad/War Table, but NOT pinpointed on the planet map.
10 new "airspace" GCW score regions/categories have been added (like Naboo Airspace, Rori Airspace, etc). GCW score contribution made while in atmospheric flight (including factional presence) will apply to the planet's corresponding "airspace" GCW score region/category. Each "airspace" GCW score region/category will contribute the same percentage to the planet's and galaxy's GCW score as a single ground GCW contested region.
While in atmospheric flight, the planet map will display in the window title the score of just the "airspace" GCW region/category for that planet.
GCW score contribution from factional ship-to-ship PvP kills in atmospheric flight will contribute to the GCW space PvP score category of the space zone corresponding to the planet. For example, factional ship-to-ship PvP kill in atmospheric flight in Tatooine airspace will contribute to the "Tatoo System Player vs Player" GCW score category. Rori airspace will contribute to the Naboo System, and Talus airspace will contribute to the Corellian System.
Here is a vid. And yes its everything we asked for. All this time it could have been implemented. SOE gets the last word as usual. sigh...

I have this feeling that SWG is going to get a F2p re-release later on.
I can see them touching up the game, wiping everyones progess and opening it as a micro transaction f2p.

If they can somehow manage to get the SW out of the game, then maybe it relaunches. Otherwise this game is dead forever.
It does seem like a cruel joke that they would bring something as cool as flying around and killing each other on the planets after this game is scheduled for demolition. Touche SOE.
Once SWTOR crashes and burns to mediocrity this game will get the green light to go f2p.
We all know the only reason SoE is shutting this down is so LA can soak up every bit of the SW fans into TOR. Once TOR proves itself to be nothing but a normal mmo and not a massive 11+ million sub juggernaught LA will loosen its grip and you will get SWG back

If this is legit, it goes along with my theory that Smed's comments about "shutting down SWG was SOE's idea" don't quite hold water. Why put money into development of a game that's shutting down. It just doesn't add up.
So you think SWG has more potential than swtor? lol. If swtor cant get 11 million subs, how in the hell would SWG?
Or it might be so that the system was developed but not properly tested and now they release it in it's current state as it will not matter the slightest if it is a bugged mess. After all they had been talking about something like this for a while.
This have been a good conversation
This. They are simply throwing their last few customers a bone before the game shuts down.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
I didnt say that it had more potential. One of the big reasons SWG is being shut down is so TOR doesnt split the SW fans. Once LA realizes that TOR isnt the money maker they think it is they will allow SWG to keep going because by that point it will have no effect on TORs mediocre numbers.

Is this some sort of joke?
You still dont make sense, or you're trolling. SWG was never a symbol of success. If swtor fails Lucas arts will just make games like force unleashed from here on out, not revive a buggy, outdated failure of a game that is SWG.
if tahts not lol, i dont know what is.
hey guys, we are shutting the game down, ohh and btw, atsmospheric flight is now added, with dogfights and all!
LOL
Interesting split in the playerbase, 5 people paying for SWG and several million likely to pay for TOR. i'm no fan of TOR but nothing so far has pointed to it getting 'mediocre' numbers.
SWG has been clinging on for a while now, TOR may have heralded the end but the root cause of SWG's death has little to do with the new mmo.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
SWG is a game that requires very little development and has a steady 50-75k subscriber base. Whats 50k-75k x 14.99 a month? with virtually no dev cost and very little server maint fees? Its steady money in the bank.
Why wouldnt they re-open the game once its proven that TOR wont be affected? Do you really think LA is going to sink millions in a Force unleashed type mmo after both SWG and TOR prove that a starwars game will not be as popular as WoW? no way!

You think all of those people will return? I dont, not with so many good options coming up. If swtor is not your thing there is GW2 on the horizon. There are others like the secrect world as well. SWG cant compete with current mmo's, much less the ones coming soon. I get it, youre upset that it will be gone forever, and as a fellow gamer I do feel for you. But wishing that that Lucas Arts will realize thier mistake and abandon the $150 million dollar game they have been helping to develop for the last few years wont make it so, sorry.
Wasn't it Lucas Arts that pulled the plug? I forgot who was developing SWG, but they probably had stuff in development that they were deciding to either put in or not put in. Now that all the pressure is off, they are probably going to try and put everything they can in before the game goes dark.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
WHAT THE HELL? At first I thought this was all a joke, but then I went and checked the actual update notes. Are you serious?? This whole time they could have done this. I would have actually played SWG this whole time if they had added this in a year ago. And I know I'm not the only one. SOE really needs to think about all the money they COULD have been making this whole time if they had just listened to us. Absolutely ridiculous. But, I'm not resubbing now. What's the point. The game is ACTUALLY closing for good. Not bothering with it now.
LOL!
I would say that TOR was the whole cause, as if TOR was not in production, LA would have put more attention to SWG, and fixed it up. but instead they just ignored it and focussd on TOR.

I think if the two games came out now, with equal graphics, SWG (pre NGE) would absolutely kill SWTOR.
If they can just retain 500k+ subscriptions through out the years, it will be a success (which I think will be no problem being a Star Wars franchise). Box sales and digital sales alone, they will make back a nice chunk of money.
I don't think they will pull 11 million subscribers (1st of all gamers prefer Fantasy setting with Wizards and Warriors over Sci Fi guns and spaceships in their mmorpg) , but they will have enough subs to be lucrative.
This is just hypothetical numbers still showing a success for 1 year.
500,000 players x 14.95 = $7,475,000 <1 month> x 1 = $89,700,000
And it took (according to sources) $80,000,000 to make SWTOR.
October 21, 2008 the news was dropped to us that SWTOR was in production (3 years of so called production this October).
Hopefully I did that math correctly for 1 year, if not, I know I will be jolted
It needed more that 'fixing up' it needed a complete rework from the ground up and some kind of focus on it's identity and who it was trying to appeal to. Scapegoating TOR and LA is a nice get out and all but the fact of the matter is the game was not good enough and has not been for years.
Ask yourself who exactly is the game meant to appeal to?
Does it have the combat mechanics in place to appeal to the pvp crowd? The simple answer is no, it has a shocking pvp system and the game is generally not in the least focused on pvp. So that is that rather large demographic out of the window.
Does it have the high quality pve and quality high level encounters needed to appeal to the ardent pve'r/raiders out there? No, it has heroics lulz. Other titles on the market offer far, far superior pvp. So again that is that massive demographic out of the window.
Which leaves what exactly? Twitch spacers, crafters, sandbox fanatics and the Star Wars fans. So let's look at them shall we..
Twitch spacers would be attracted to the game, but two things occur, up until recently space was the one aspect SOE hadn't totally fucked up because it was the one aspect they left alone. Which doesn't exactly scream competent developer at you now does it. Secondly just what percentage of the mmo playerbase puts twitch space as their central play style and raison d' etre, not a very large one i'd wager.
Crafters. Yep the crafting in SWG is fantastic, but then the economy is broken and is impossible to fix because there are no mechanics in place to drive the economy (player looting, territory control, decay etc etc). This means that it is primed to appeal to people only interested in crafting who don't give a toss about the economical side of the game. A small minority of players one would hesitate to suggest.
Sandbox. Well it's not is it really, it's a lame bastardization of a sandbox which has tried to become a themepark with little to no success. Sandbox fans looking for open skill systems, dynamic, world shaping territory controls and significant world pvp mechanics are not going to be enthralled by the game are they. People can dump houses everywhere and um, well yeah actually that's about as good as it gets. Lots of empty ghost towns lagging up the system.
Fans of the IP. Not getting into the fact that the GCW aspect of the IP means pretty much fuck all in the game coupled with the fact that you have pink ewoks, fairy wings and hot pants all over the place. Relying on the IP alone was always going to put the game in jeopardy as soon as another mmo with the same IP came out.
The sad fact is the game is not good enough and does not appeal to any particular player (or at least not a large enough niche demographic of players) and that has been the case for a long time now. To fix that requires essentially making it a completely different game, which doesn't speak volumes for the thing really.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
ALL SWG problems is down to LA just ignoring it.
The atmospheric flight, instant coding to the datapad for transferring vehicles, removal of TCG No-Trade, return of smuggler buffs, Smuggler and Medic profession update in one update etc etc I don't think SOE has worked so hard acros SWGs entire life. SOE have probably done more to SWG in the last few months, than they have in the last few years!
This has also been done on the mininal dev crew it has. If they had more devs, a whole lot more could have been done to SWG, without a doubt, except Bioware came along, and gave LA what they wanted.

 Sounds like a system that was 90% done (plus QC time of course) at the time of the shutdown announcement.
If it's ready now, why not release it? At least someone'll get to enjoy it before Dec.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Next week it will be "oh just before we go down, look what we found, the pre-nge disks, I knew I put them somewhere. Anyway here you go have a few weeks of this". I would fkin lmao until I puked blood.
