Casino's in game! Instead of medditating while waiting for a dngn...

Why not have chess or a CASINO in game with texas holdem, 21. You wouldnt be playing against the house you would be playing against other players. We all know the wait time to get inito a dngn can be long so this would fill the void!

It would be easy to program into the game too!

 

What are your thoughts?

I don't play RIFT, but.....I think this is a great idea for almost any game. Playing is always better than just sitting and waiting.

The problem is local laws.

A lot of municipalities, regions, states/provinces, countries, etc, have rules prohibiting gambling in some form or another. For some it's any form of gambling for anyone, to limiting to only certain types of gambling, specifically limiting minors from gambling, etc.

You might argue that, "but this is online and virtual, and it's not with real money." But many local government would disagree with those excuses. Gambling laws in many areas are being revised to also apply to online gambling, and even when it's gambling involving virtual currency.

So in other words, it's a legal mine field, and easier to just avoid.

It's not quite as bad as you put it. 

Killing is illegal, but hardly any government will ban a game due to it having killing mechanics.

If they run into legal issues, they can simply tweak it and make it so you are not "gambling" anymore. A lot of television game shows are gambling, just not straight up gambling. Children play those all the time.

believe me I don't like gambling in real life at all. My dad wasted his whole life savings because of his addiction to gambling, but...

It was quiet funny the other night I was playing rift on my warden/healer elf girly and the guild I was in told me I would get booted out of the guild if I was caught gambling. It was kind of strange because I thought "hmm whats that?" so they basically explained to me that its gambling with the in game plat that you have. I didn't say anything and just nodded and agreed.

But to be perfectly honest with you guys. i really don't see a problem with it at all, especially if it's only being used with in-game money and not real money? If people are paying to play the game and are not doing anything against the terms of service then who really cares? They should be able to play the game the way they want, and if people want to gamble there life savings away in a video game. Then so be it. It's better then throwing real money away right?
