According to an interview with Kyung-Tae Kim, the lead planner at XLGames, the second closed beta test of ArcheAge will be focused on battles at sea. Not only firefights, hand-to-hand combat is also available on the open ocean! Many more features are still in development, such as fishing in the middle of the ocean, housing on a deserted island, and hunting sea monsters.

only 2 mmos i have played had fishing, Mortal online and ultima online
in ultima online it was extremely simple but rewarding, you clicked on your rod then on some water, wait a while catch something from fish to maps etc.
in mortal online its very complex, you choose the rod, the line, the hook, the bait and the depth. you have to fish in diferent areas to catch different fish, esentially you get a message on screen and visual clues, you reel in the rod and catch fish when they go for the bait. i beleive 75 types of fish to catch which can be sold or butchered and you can use anything from other fish to coins as bait.

it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience

John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
As it turns out, fishing was just added to the test server and will be likely implemented in the next patch. There is also screenshots of a new ship which is rumored to be for deep sea fishing.
I was a big fan of how WoW did their fishing tbh. I like the action of clicking on the bobber once I got a tug. Seems like you can choose where to cast, I like that. Im interested to see where they take it.
I plan to be spending most of my time at sea so fishing could be useful for me as a means of income when there are no ships to plunder.
If there is anything that has any in game use in the Cash Shop, then it will be harmful to the game. Crafters won't go to the effort to plant and harvest if what they make won't sell due to a CS. Heal/Mana potions, Gliders, player bred mounts would all take away from the player side economy. Vanity and Appearance items only could work, but there needs to be a constant stream of 'new' items or players will soon be spending nothing there.
Personally I hope it stays P2P Subscription, when you look at the crap the F2P/B2P markets have pumped out lately it becomes really clear to me you get what you PAY for.
OT, to me Fishing may not be a required or core mechanic, but I simply find it a fun thing to do. Sit back, drop a line and enjoy the scenery while while trolling, err I mean contributing majorly to Chat...

a game with naval warfare and no fishing?
really? no fishing a game breaker? i highly doubt that
If fishing is a game breaker for you, I suggest a different genre. Like, I dunno...a fishing game.

there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters.
Does this mythical fishing game have NASCAR style car racing? Because that is what I look for in a fishing game.

LoTRO, WoW & Runescape are 3 games I know of with fishing.
If fishing is THAT important to you, buy a fishing game and quit mmo's.
Lotro, Runescape, Rift, Vanguard, SWG, UO ... as i remember... AA will have fishing too
Interesting timing for this post....

Nonetheless, fishing is on the way!

Can´t wait for fishing
Cheers.
Got to say, I'm not sure if this will be fun or not, but the background ambiance and the realism of the rod action are pretty stunning.

This will be a p2p game just like it is in KR.
The business model was never revealed for the West. If it's P2P, I'm kind of hoping for a package deal for other Trion games, like the Station pass.
For all anyone knows, it could be B2P with Trion's cashshop .. all as part of the "Westernization" process ..
