One is certain, GW2, TERA and SWTOR will make 2012 a golden age of mmos. (*fingers crossed*)

If it's certain then why are you crossing your fingers?:)

You cant say for certain that GW2 will be better than TERA, and vice versa.

Thing is... both these companies are very very good at over hyping their game!... Arenanet especially have a history of over hyping to the extend of deception.

In both cases, I will be watching them closely after release to find out which has bullshitted the most, then I'll try one.. but I certain wont pre-order, no way.  They could both end up being utter disasters.

This is not a troll its a serious question, what do I get for my monthly subscription that makes this game better than GW2?

As much as people will give you input on either game, they're wasting their breath. As someone has already stated, no one has experienced this game yet. Its not out. They haven't been released. So that question can't really be answered at this time. Sure people will pull stuff out of their asses to act they know anything about the game. And even beta and current for the Korean release is different from when the port that we get.

As far as subbing or free monthly, in my eyes they only have a couple of advantages and disavdvantages. Free is great. But they're funding will come down to actual game sales and in game stores if they have them.  So being to fund nice patches to constantly fix issues and make game changes as in extra content and decent maintenance would be less than a game funded by not only sales, but subs as well. A successful game with subs will have a better financial pull over F2P for making the game better and and working order.

GW2 will be funded by box sales. TERA is ONLY being funded at the moment by subs cause in Korea you don't buy a box version of the game. So, GW2 will have a lot bigger initial push then TERA did and if the playerbase of GW2 grows, depending if it's good or not, then it will keep getting decent funding to provide content and changes. I am sure if TERA can last this long on subs alone to provide the content updates that it needs that GW2 can last long enough to provide content on a regular basis. Even if it charges 20 bucks per content update every 3 months (not based on any actual info), it will still be cheaper then TERA in the west overall and still provide enough money to keep things running.

This is also not counting the merchandise that GW2 is already selling which I am sure it got them a little extra cash since the Charr plushie is already sold out.

Your theory is good until you add that TERA when its released in the West will already have undergone a whole round of updates, balancing and bug fixing from the Korean release, it would be like getting WoW released at TBC level, it will just be much better, as soon as GW2 releases there will balancing issues, bugs and oversights that just didnt crop up on betas/testing that is just the way it goes, will it be starved of content in the first couple of months, we dont know, while TERA has already been played through they already know what to expect in the  first few months.

On topic however I will be getting both, GW2 since it has no sub I will play it on the side and hop in and out without consequence, and TERA like someone said I played L2 for 4 years since release, to this day the politics in that game really outweight everything, hopefully TERA will capture that.

You know I've heard same when Aion was released in west but ... it just wasnt at the level expected and needed.  Imo TERA stand no chance to gw2 and SW:TOR as P2P game, they should  be imo thinking about changing P2P to F2P or B2P .

    But Ill probably try both.

Heaven forbid that you would actually have to AIM for your target. The only issue I see is that like people have said, all their money for funding future deveopment of patches and expansions will be based off of their profit from sales and IG shop. I would rather pay a sub fee and give them money to put towards them developing and maintaining the to create a stable environment and keep it exciting by being to create and add new features and content. And I sure as hell don't want to have to deal with an in game shop. Because then you have a bunch of kids with parents who spoil them and toss money at these in game stores and in the end if you want all the nice stuff, you're paying more than the cost of a sub fee. GW2 is an amazing looking game and seems to have a lot of nice features and promises. I can only hope it holds up better than GW1.

Almost all P2P games have a similar cash shop as GW2 will have and GW1 already have.

As for kids, lets compare the 2 large western made games, LOTRO and Wow. Wow have actually more kids both in number and percentage.

As for button mashing, have you actually seen the thief footage from GW2? A macro would get you killed fast there, either you do your active dodging and use your skills just the right time or you are dead. Of course there are some easier classes to play as well, but why play the boring classes and use them as example?

I have played GW1 for years and few people have better gear than me (I miss one good rune I need on my main, I could have had it but have been wasting too much time on my alts). The money I spent in the cash shop for that? Not a dime.

Frankly is many P2P game using almost all of the monthly fees to make it's shareholders richer, not to improve the game. You have already paid for both the running cost and development cost when you buy the game and it's expansions. Monthly fees never went to making more content, originally they covered the very high bandwidth and server cost of the late 90s. At best it goes to give you a little better support if something goes wrong (I contacted ANETs support once in 5 years and SoEs 0 in about the same time, not worth the money for me or possibly some faster support).

A few P2P games needs every dime they get in monthly fees but that is games with few subs that never sold enough boxes to cover the development cost and now have so few players that they can't afford to make any new expansions. Like Vanguard, Darkfall and Mortal online.

We heard all that before from all the games before it, Rift was going to be better than everything so I wouldnt put my money on any MMO not standing a chance against any other because we dont know, both of them look good and they are unreleased looking at it objectively , TERA has a chance of being better since it had support and GW2 has a chance for being f2p but if it stands a chance or not we dont know.

How can anyone answer this question? It's quite hard to judge or compare two products that most have not experienced at all.

This, Terra doesn't look like my cup of tea whilst GW2 looks great, but then looking like and actually being like are two different things. People really need to wait and actually see what the games are like on release.

For those of you who are wondering how Anet is going to get funds to continue adding content into the game.  My friends and I are speculating that they are going to go the rout of what console games are doing recently.  Regularly putting out frequent "DLC" could keep the company funded, as well as keeping the game free for those who don't wish to use the DLC.  The DLC could include a handful of new multi level dungeons possibly.  They wouldn't raise stats any in order to keep it devoid from the "pay to win" format that many MMO gamers would hate.  And these dungeons could have more gear items or bonuses for purchasers.  These could come out every 3 or so months in order to keep money flowing.  Hopefully they would be around 10 to 15 dollars.

I would much rather pay 10 or 15 dollars every few months for actual content given to me, rather than 15 dollars a month for supposedly promised future content.

This is all just speculation though.  But I think it makes sense.

When they're both released we'll be able to answer a lot of these questions. Right now its hard to tell. They've both got potential. I am leaning towards TERA however. But honestly. I don't personally see over-sized weapons being ridiculous at all. No more ridiculous than people shooting flames out of their hands. Its all fantasy. Obviously the weilder is a lot stronger than your average human. And while I don't care for having "pink" armor, everyone has a right to customize their gear as they see fit. Some people forget there are girl gamers among the MMOs as well. And to be honest I prefer to pimp out my toon especially if I have to see him/her for hours on end. I think a lot of us have just grown tired and moved on from the typical D&D boring cruddy armor designs and bland medievil weapon selections. Custom character creation isn't going anywhere and most likely will become a standard among MMOs. You can choose to use it or just hit enter.

In any case I'm giving both a shot. I want both of them to do well. I don't mind running multiple MMOs. My only worry is that as mentioned before, all of their development funding relies on the copies they sell as where as long as TERA is successful to a certain minimum, they'll have all those subs coming in monthly to be able to keep it going. Haven't tried GW2 obviously but I am playing on a Korean account for TERA. (I think my sub is expired  :/)
