I am watching all the discussion about WoW vs. EQII here and it seems to me it's like Intel vs. AMD or Microsoft vs. Linux. So have rather fun reading all the posts rather than anything else. Anyway, since I am rather new to MMORPG, didn't play too many games yet, and definitely any of the two mentioned above, I cannot really take side (not that I really wanted to).
Anyway, I would be really thankful if somebody could explain the main differences between WoW and EQII and potentially also compare them with Saga of Ryzom, which I know and like actually. Thanks a lot...

Well i'm not going to go into great detail. EQ2 and WoW are pretty simplistic compared to SoR. In SoR you have great latitude in customizing you skills and spells. Theres no such thing in EQ2 or WoW. SoR is a long drawn out level up compared to those 2 games. WoW and EQ2 are both real easy to level and theres really very little risk. The only way your going to die is by you or your groups own stupidity. The SoR map is quite larger than the others. Eq2's graphics are equal to SoR but SoR's is vastly superior to WoW.
In short you know what your getting with EQ2 and WoW. You can see the endgame and although i have little doubt they'll add content i also have little doubt it will a) cost money for the new content and b) be the same old treadmill of adding better loot in lieu of creativity. With SoR the team has been so creative i really dont know whats going to happen. SoR is so much better than WoW or EQ2 for the serious gamer who likes challenges that i cant really imagine why they'd wanna play one of the easier games outside of the namebrand factor that drew them into it in the first place.
I'm sure in a few months EQ2 will be so desperate that they'll offer a free download and trial much like they did with star wars galaxies. As far as WoW goes it is a fun game to play but theres little challenge to it.
I'd say if you liked the old EQ where levels were tough and life was dangerous SoR is the game for you. If you likes the later EQ where SoE put in insta ports in PoK and tried to appease all the whiners by making it take 1 month to get 65 then WoW is the game for you. I'd never recommend EQ2 as its just a horrid game. I played for a month got to level 40 and cancelled my account because it was just that bad.
Make a difference!
I've never played Ryzom yet so I can't place any judgements on it. It looks interesting, but between school and other RL stuff I only have time to play one MMORPG, which is currently WoW. EQ2 I played for three weeks before I got bored with it. It has good graphics and some wicked technologies and gimmicks to it, but, to me at least, it misses out on that one thing that's most important: fun. Alot of people are finding it fun though. If you're looking for a game that you're sure to meet some people though, go EQ2 because 80% of the time you'll be spending in a group.
WoW is more catered to the newcomers to the MMORPG market, but it has tons of stuff that veteran players like as well. It doesn't have the same technological capabilities that SOE poured into EQ2, but what it does have is used to the max. The world is made to look very much alive and that it does, the quests are fun as are the battles, plus I find the PvP element to be kickass. It's a definate game to enjoy, unfortunately everyone else seems to think so too, so Blizzard has suspended sales on WoW for the time being due to overpopulation on their servers. If you haven't got it yet, you may have to do some search for it elsewhere.
WoW vs. EQII is okay.
But don't compare them to Ryzom, it's so different.
in WoW you can't get higher than 60 I heard, and Everquest not higher around that level too.
Ryzom you can get lvl 250 max. You get quite alot skillpoints to make your char, I think no char is the same. You can start fighting and go mage later on. In both WoW and Everquest II you can't do that because you choose one class.

I don't know what you mean!

It is like so much noise these days and I should know. I've started a couple of these myself.
