I need a new mmorpg, preferably a sandbox!

I am looking for a new mmorpg with with minimal grind, preferably sandbox, pvp is great, I like survival based games, i like raising skills.. not level up and you are more powerful than a lower level. i want a decent player base, not empty. I like crafting systems and building houses and bases etc. i enjoy grouping up with people, and playing solo so a good community. I mainly want a free to play game, P2P is optional.  I like having a player run economy and community, and basicaly everything player run. I was hoping for a newish game but if there are any older games that still have a playable population ill play it.

 

 

 

Things im not looking for : anything that is considered a "Wow clone" <<< im done with that game. I dont want to play minecraft... and nothing that has to do with space... such as EVE and battle star galatica. I also dont want anyone to suggest darkfall... the game would have been more fun if i didnt have to spend a year trying to catch up to veterans. I dont like faction based pvp all that much.

I can't really think of anything that gotten out recently that fits your bill.

Keep your eyes out for more info about CCPs "World of darkness online" though, not sure when it releases but it seems like it will fit like a glove.

Sandbox and full featured in the same sentence kills most suggestions.

 

Have you looked into Saga of Ryzom?  Not F2P but at least there's a good trial period to evaluate.

Honestly I just want a new game, not neccisarily full featured but something that has alot to do not everything i said has to be combined into a giant mega game, just some of the features.

You're in the same boat as probably 60% of the posters on this site. Long story short, there is nothing out there that will fit your exact wants and needs. Arche Age is a ways out, but could be the closest to what you might be looking for, but the more info that comes out for it I am beginning to doubt that (not that I think it will be a crap game... just less sandboxy than people here want).

Want open world, skill based, F2P... play Oblivion.

Want an MMO with a decent sized community, play a f2p themepark.

Sorry for the negative tone of this post... but that's pretty much the bottom line right now. Not trying to troll you or anything.

Your asking a hell of a lot from an industry thats been ruined by inferior linear crap

designed mmo's for the whinning kids who want everything spoonfed for them.

 

The only game close to what you want died 6-7 years ago (Pre-CU SWG) btw dont miskate

it for that piece of shit now, you could also try UO (very old now) or DF? at a push EVE?

 

...either way your dreaming m8, like a lot of us, we want the game you described but sadly it

doesn't exist & probably never will due to narrow minded developers & greedy companies.

I would say Mortal Online, it is a very decent game with all the new things added and most of the launch problem appear to be fixed. (Not that I've played before, but it's base on what i've read so far)

I just finished the 14 days trial and I must says this is what a sandbox game should be. I'm very impressed with that game and there's seems to be a tons of skills.

its full of bugs & run by idiots, plus the servers are half empty, fair enough everyone has an

opinion & can make their own mind up, but seriously this isn't one of them, most people

would agree it should be closed

There is a reason the previous posters did not mention MO.  They all know about the game and they did not mention it I wonder why??

 

Most of the launch problems are not fixed.  And can you link to me where you read that the problems are fixed please. 

 

He listed a bunch of things he wants in a game and most of them MO does not have including a playable population.  I do not think his idea of a player economy is yelling WTB armor in town for 30 mins hoping someone will come by to sell him something.

There's a 14 days trial, I don't see a waste of money and it's just my humble opinion. The guy asked for a new game, I'm just letting him know what's experience i've had.....take it or leave it!!

He's speculating m8, like he said he never played it at launch so i cant see how he can

Try Final Fantasy XI ~ Granted you still have to pay monthly for it, but it really is more a sandbox MMO than most people think, and is has a skilling up system for all types of weapons and spells.  It can be played solo, but also requires grouping in certain areas.  It is not quest hub driven at all.  Nor do you just magically earn spells from visting a trainer, you have to purchase or find the scroll to learn it, many of which are very rare drops!

 

The community has always been great whenever I played, though its rather quiet most of the time.  People only tend to openly speak when its important {game related} and worth saying, so you don't get tons of spam and BS chat like you'd see in say WoW.  The economy is mostly run by players but in recent years and with the addition of Abyssea, you generally go through extensive trials to permanently upgrade gear you get from NMs in there, but there are still some great pieces you can have made through synthesis.

 

 

Or you could always try Ryzom as already mentioned.  Its a true sandbox MMO, though the community is really small so I've heard, but its still a good one.

Vanguard is a good game graphically, worth a DL, just a pity SOE run it otherwise it

could be so much more, if they put some effort into it, im sure it could of done better,

but a shoody launch was the issue back then, apparently much has been fixed / improved

Afterthought to the OP:

 

You should really think about how important a large community is to you. It seems that the more sandboxy you go, the lower the population is. If population is very important, you really will need to find a happy medium that you can enjoy.

 

Also, look into Fallen Earth. It has sandbox-esque themes to it, PvP, will be F2P soon, crafting is semi-deep... might be good for you.

I'd suggest giving Vanguard a try. It's  pretty much right in between a sandbox and a themepark.

Huge open game world, the kind that makes you go wow.

Tons of non instanced Dungeon's. Some are totally massive.

Probably need 5 or 6 character's to lvl through all the content.

Very deep game

Sadly there is no pvp

People will tell you it has no population, but it's having a bit of a revival right now and you can quite easily get into groups.

You can play the 14 day free trial, it's fun but is segregated from the main game.

If you like to pve... you will be left scratching your head, wondering why the hell more people are'nt playing this game.

SOE run it... basically that's the answer you were looking for...

 

It's such a shame though as it had so much potential, pity about the PVP side of things,

thats the biggest issue imo, otherwise i'd be playing it now

If I'm not mistaken, as of Sept. 15th though, you can no longer sign up to play SWG...so that one shouldn't be mentioned as a viable option anymore!

Well on my earlier posts i did mention this also, my reference in red was in regards to

what seemed to be his condescending remarks about a classic game.

 

Anyway if you want to be pedantic the ORIGINAL Pre-Cu is playable in beta

(although i cant say any more on this site about it though, but you know what im talking about)
