By looking at the screenshots and reading some of the info for this game, ArcheAge somehow reminds me of Asheron's Call open world exploration gameplay!
I am still a crazy fans of Asheron's Call by the big amount of freedom you can explore the whole world and you never get tired running from one end to another! I remembered the beautiful view in Dereth while I climbed the mountain and exotic forest while going through the swarm. Those feelings were kinda coming back when looking at the screenshot of this game!
I can't wait to play !!!

Lots of good things from AC i can see in ArcheAge. Essentially I feel that ArcheAge is taking everything that worked well in most older MMOs and then reinventing them to make a multi-hybrid-awesomeness of MMOs. However, specific player-types like PvPers, explorers, crafters, achievers will all have to be open-minded and compromise in order to find a full interest in the game. Majority will find that theres enough content on release day to keep them busy for several months.
AC was great because the developers had a great relationship with the playerbase and knew what they wanted. They gave enough freedom for the player to do whatever they wanted with the tools/mechanics to do it. They overral did a better job then must Devs today which only pertain to a certain crowd.
Yes! ArcheAge looks as if it may fill the gaming void left since AC. I consider myself a jaded mmo player, but this one has me very excited.
That would be really awsome if this game is anything like Asherons Call. I loved that game, played it for many many years.
I really would love to get excited by AA but I just cant for 2 reasons.
1. its an Asian game at heart with anime looks i.e. characters running hunched over in a very unrealistic animation, huge round eyes, cell shaded, and character animations that look weird. (I loath anime)
2. the combat is stylized with a street fighter feel i.e. weapon swings that show the swooshing through the air of a weapon, colorful and rapid attacks which convey the sense of kung-fu more then actual swordplay.
the features sound great but I will be unable to get psat those 2 points.

I'll admit as an avid anime fan I really don't see the resemblance of AA to anime but if you see it then you see it.
I will not debate any further with you whether it looks anime or not, that's really not my point here. I will say that I can relate to your feelings on how something so seemingly arbitrary can ruin your gaming experience. When I first logged into WoW I felt like I had just landed on a world full of cartoon characters and the odd shapes, bright colors, and the lack of any attempt to make it look realistic was a gigantic turn off for me.
Yea its really all about perception, for me thats what I see and I dont think I could get past that sense.
IMHO there is a clear distinction between the looks of an Asian game and a Western game, I think we could both agree that at first glance you could determine what side of the pacific a game comes from.
I have played a few Asian games: Lineage 2, and Aion being the 2 most predominate and I could'nt last past the first day. To each their own I suppose.
One last thing, for people that are in my camp who despise that Asian look, GW2 and TSW are coming out in the relative near future and I think both parties will have something to look froward to that just isnt "WoW clone #9867986".
