Final Fantasy XIV: New Patch Coming October 4th

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone has been updated with an outline of the notes for the highly anticipated v1.19 patch. The patch is set to deploy on October 4th and brings several significant features to FFXIV.

According to a new Producer's Letter, the patch has been delayed slightly to accommodate more stability and to give the dev team more time for debugging.

To give players a bit of a heads up about the patch, the team has laid out the major changes coming in the v1.19 patch and indicated that both Ixal stronghold (Natalan) and Guildleve history evaluations will be delayed to the v1.19a update.

Read both the Producer's Letter and check out the patch out line on the Final Fantasy XIV site.

Way to not include the video and instead put in some random picture from the earlier chocobo update to make it look like there is nothing interesting in the patch.

    Here is the actual letter:

and the video they released along with it of Ifrit fight:

Are the new modes of travel not a part of this update and a significant addition? I thought so which is why the chcobo image was used.

Also, the videos are clearly linked on the Lodestone which is the URL given to readers interested in finding out more about BOTH the producer's letter AND the patch outline.

The news was less about what was coming in the patch and more about the release date of October 4th.

They are a part of this patch but they were not mentioned at all in this letter.  You make absolutely no mention at all of the Ifrit video when it was one of the main points made in the letter to the producer.  You only mention that SE:

"laid out the major changes coming in the v1.19 patch"  which I suppose is accurate if you are talking about their preview of 1.19 in July!!!!  Because this is completely misleading when you are referring to the latest outline which only announced the details of their changes to the:

    Recipe Revisions

As has been previously announced, patch 1.19 will usher in major revisions and additions to synthesis recipes. The details of the following changes will be made available shortly.

You do understand that this patch has more in it than chocobos and Recipe revisions right, and that these are not "the major changes coming in 1.19"

So are you trying to mislead people, or did you just not read the post where it said that outline was for repairs, or that the patch notes would not be released until September 30th.

and "and indicated that both Ixal stronghold (Natalan) and Guildleve history evaluations will be delayed to the v1.19a update."  I'm glad you caught that part!  Did your intense research into what FFXIV players want to know about tell you that was the one accurate piece of information you ought to include in your news story?

Oh and don't pretend like everyone was chomping at the bit for those 2 measly pictures of the chocobos you pulled from the nearly week old Chocobo update which you already did a seperate story on and is unrelated to the latest news.

I'm sorry but I simply call that lazy journalism

This "news" was what we always get from you... very little worth reading.

Call it what you will but the simple fact is that any newsbit is designed to give a basic overview of the content on the official site with the appropriate links for more information. After all, the best resource is the "official" word from the developers themselves. My job is to point the way and to let people draw their own conclusions. To that end, mission accomplished.

The "journalistic" side of uncovering and evaluating major feature enhancements is covered in features written for the site at whatever time editors deem appropriate.

Sorry not really "mission accomplished' when you omit anything positive about the game, confusingly re-use graphics from your previous article to make it look like there is nothing else of note in the patch, and have glaring errors in accuracy in what little you do cover with your "newsbit".

You are right the best information is from the developers, they don't need you playing the telephone game with the information they post so how about you just don't report on it at all if you can't manage to get it right.

The outline is for the crafting recipe changes, not an outline of "the major changes coming in the v1.19 patch".

Also you read the letter to the producer long enough to see that they were delaying one of the beastman strongholds (which you have never even mentioned on this site before so I don't know why you felt the need to single out that bit of information), and one of their changes to guildleves (which you have also never covered).

So would it really have been that hard to include a 10 word sentence telling people there was a new video of the much anticipated Ifrit fight?

While I find MMORPG.com rarely has any good articles on the games it covers, this time it was not meant to be an article, just a heads up, as the SBFord guy said, so anyone giving shit to them for not posting every little bit of information about the patch when they clearly said the notes were on the offical site and gave a link really need to get a life. If a person isn't into the game, they're not gonna care to read any update info here - and if they ARE into it, they're clicking the link and reading it all for themselves.

This game barely deserves a mention at the moment, and once it's up to snuff and they start charging a monthly fee and the game doesn't completely go under... well, THEN you can complain about not getting enough coverage on the patch notes and stuff. This isn't the time to try and get new customers just to have them leave and never come back. This is practice for the big game, and when the big game comes, well, it still will probably be disappointing.

MMORPG.com is a (and I use the term extremly lightly) news/review website, it is thier job to mention news for all the games they have up, whether its good or bad, constantly beating at chocobos, airships and crafting for 1.19 is choosing the news to show, which is bad journalism because it makes readers think that no progress is being made with the game, which is what MMORPG.com always does.

If they want to mention a game they mention everything about it to bring the news to a wider audiance, if they  pick and choose what they want to say, it looks like the devs are doing nothing to people that are brain dead enough to come here for information. Mind if somone is stupid enough to come here then the game is better off without them, but it doesnt negate the fact that MMORPG.com should tell us everything, which they are not.

Perhaps I just read threads on this site differently, but as a player waiting for the 1.9 patch, All I saw when I read this headline was the fact that the patch was delayed until the 4th, And after reading the letter on the loadstone, that seems to be all it was for, was to inform us that the patch was delayed, everything else in the letter was an attempt to keep the players from getting pissed about the delay.

Anyone still following FFXIV (like me) only need the news about the delay, anyone not following FFXIV (like alot) don't care about any of it and wouldn't be swayed back to it right now if it claimed to bring a cure for the common cold with it. So I am not seeing the great error in this news post.

Most people who are still following the game want to know what is coming, not just dates, they therefore dont have to try every patch to see what is new. Yes the letter was mainly to tell us about the patch, but it also showed a video of what to expect from the ifrit battle, if you check for ffxiv news on this website there is mentions of chocobos and airships, also delays in patches and nothing else recently, which gives the false impression that the devs are making no progress.

Holy piss fit, this is always how mmorpg.com has been doing their news. It's always the basics like if you have an ADD child read a paragraph they pick out key phases. I'm sure there is laziness involved too, using the same pics saves the agonizing chore of uploading or linking an image.

Really for this site it comes down to the headline. If headline doesn't say it all nothing does, I don't usual read the two sentences of their "overview" I just instantly click the link or watch the video.

In other words it's expected this is their lazy routine and why I don't make much stops here anymore.

Thats just not true, I check this site before any other, and if something comes up about a game I follow (like FFXIV) I find out here, then head to a site dedicated to that game and get all the details. If your expecting a site dedicated to ALL MMO's to give you every detail about every MMO, you are looking for the wrong things in the wrong places. This site does what its designed to do, provide a place for GENERAL information and give a forum to discuss MMO's. Not give you every single detail about every single MMO.

I thought the pictures and content in the newsline were appropriate. Mission accomplished, SBFord!

This newsbit said everything I would have expected it to concerning the patch release date announcement, and links to the Lodestone.  So another message of support for SBFord.

    pie.

    Truth.

The fact of the matter is, as has been pointed out by Quicksand and I (and possibly others): if you're interested, you'll come here, see this title, click it and use it to find all of the information. Why bother repeating every bit of information that has already been written and can more easily be linked to?

It would be unnecessary and a complete waste of their time.

If you wanna try and make a better review or update then go on ahead. Despite the fact that a good reviewer/reporter should not have biased opinions of games, the review is from their outlook and not yours. Mission accomplished is saying what the author feels necessary to convey not only facts but a view from they're perspective. I don't always agree with reviews from other people whether it be a site based review or customer review and rating, but I take them all into consideration and ofcus on the negatives to see if my own experience fares the same or not.

Getting too old for this $&17!

While this site isn't perfect, I really don't see why you feel the need to bash SBFord.

As has been made abundantly clear this game is on severe life support. It's still unclear as to if it will survive or not. As has been said, most people following the game know where to look. The rest don't give a damn about this thread.

That said, the only thing that I think needs to be included in the OP, is to mention that the actual patch notes will be provided on september 30th. Or, SBFord could simply make a new thread on the 30th with a link to the legit patch notes, when they become available. It's really not that big a deal.

Also, after watching that vid, I have to say I'm not all that excited for the patch. It looks like they still aren't addressing some of the most glaring problems in the game. I wonder how long it will take to finally have proper combat mechanics, cause it didn't look like they made it into that video. Heal aggro + a stupidly limited healing range, has really made fighting in this game quite cumbersome.
