I am looking for a new mmorpg to keep me busy until Guild Wars 2 comes out, and I've narrowed my choice down to Allods Online and Runes of Magic. I've played Allods up until about a month ~ 1.5months to lv 43 (max 47, unless they've changed it recently) so I know quite a bit about the game, but I quit the game because crystal chips needed to make runes were getting way to expensive and as a casual gamer there was no way I could keep up with rune lvs and gear, so basically pay 2 win. I also played RoM but noway near as much. I played RoM until when it was still in chapter 1 or 2, and the reason I quit was because it was so overly pay 2 win, I was being killed by people 10 ~ 15 lvs lower than me...
So I ask you guys, which game is less pay 2 win? Has the RoM cash shop gotten a bit fairer since chapter 1/2 now that's it's in chapter 4? And which game is more casual player friendly? Please answer only if you're experience in either or both of these games. I don't want to hear your stories about how you played for 10 lvs then found it boring...
Thanks!

I think you should play Allods Online, although the games are very similar.
Go with Allods. I have played both (pretty recently as well.. last 4 months or so). And RoM is more Pay 2 Win by far.
Heres the thing about RoM, unless you sign in and do your 10 daily quests a day for well over a year. You wont be able to do any dungeons past ~level 55. The reason being you cant do the dungeons without having fully upgraded gear for your level. So if your level 55 doing level 55 dungeons and NOT running with people 5-10+ levels higher then you with stated out gear, you just will die right away.
I cant tell you how annoying it was when I got to level 55, using level 50 gear and found out that the 55 gear had 10x better stats, and even once I had all the 55 level gear, STILL wasn't able to do the dungeons without then stating out almost every piece of armor/wep I had with 6 additional stats (max allowed), but to do this you either need to spend tons of time farming the armor needed for the stones, or buying them the stones already in the AH, then buying a Cash Shop item to get the stats on the stones, then from there add them to an armor/wep. And you had to do this 3 different times per armor/wep (basically forcing you to buy 35 or so stones from the AH) Just to play the level 55 dungeon..
Then when you finally got to the point where you could even attempt the 55 dungeon with a party your level and not higher level then you, and wanted to move on. You would have to restat ALL your armor/wepons again with the now the next level of stone/gear stuff from the new dungeon just to compete all over again. And you would need to do this every single time they come out with a new dungeon (which is almost every other patch).
TLDR: Allods is way less pay 2 win since Holy Charms are free now then RoM will ever be. Trust me, I spent $150 on RoM just to be able to do the 55 Dungeon, just to find out I then had to spend $200 to undo the stats and restat all over again to then do the 60 Dungeon, Then when they came out with a new dungeon and was forcing us to RESTAT all over again and spend even more money, is when I quit.

Dude, if you like Allods/Runes I think you should just play WOW. It'll be cheaper and probably funner.
I would go with Allods Online. Allods if definitely the least pay to win, and recently the cash shop has become a place to buy "fluff" items and items that make your gear turn different colors.
Both game have bad rep of pay2win thou allod have improved nowadays or so i heard. I suggest trying out freemium LoTR or AoC
I wouldn't recommend RoM to you, though it is a lot of fun, it's a huge p2w-money sink. Aciddragon is correct about the caliber of gear required just to do lvl 55+ instances. There's a vast difference in the amount of power and hp, between a lvl 55 elite mob INSIDE an instance (like Hall of Survivors) or an elite lvl 55 mob OUTSIDE and instance (like Naga Lunatics in Aotuila Volcano).
If you can't drop hundreds of dollars on the game, you can always grind for gold and buy CS items from other players, though, quite a few folks get scammed now and then. I did this, successfully, for a long time and never got scammed. I quit because most of the people, selling CS items, actually quit the game (on my server), themselves (when I last played...about 6 or 7 months ago). It was just too hard to find a seller at that point and I knew the game was ultimately not worth spending any real money on.
Like you, OP, I'm biding my time until GW2 (and a few others) comes out. I'm playing the original GW, atm, though it's not really a lot of fun (some people love it, some hate it), it beats watching paint peel, lol.
Allods Online is around $250 just to achieve full level 6 runes. At level 47+ costs a heap of EXTRA money... First of all there is Incense and Mounts... Then there is Mount FEED, Yeah, We all know we need food for your mounts in Allods, pretty gay actually... Then you need the extra Stat/Talent points, rubies and other strongbox items, which is a gamble (random chance) so you usually spend like $50 for stuff.. Lets see what else there is... Astral Megaphones, Boy, they cost you quite a bit once you play for at least a year.... You need them for endgame astral 1, 2, 3, soon to be 4 and 5/maloseum of sparks and soon to come dead city, well just for LFG's to them, You usually waste about 5 - 7 while looking for a party.... And then you need extra high level runes for GT... I am currently on 12,11,11 on Offensive and 10,10,10 on Defensive.... Over the 2 years I have played I have spent about $5000-$7000 on my MAIN character (Level 47 Psionicist) and I have 3 other 40+'s......
I do not find Runes of Magic very P2W, however I play on the AU server (Thalia) though I have not reached 50 yet, all I really see in the Item Shop are Vanities...
Although I am not in the best spot for recommending Runes of Magic, I do not think Allods Online is the better of the 2.....
Why is lotro out of the running, seems to blow both games away,
Agree with gotha Lotro should also be considered and eq2
Why would you spend that much on a game if you don't think it's better than one EXTREMELY similar? o.o thats crazy lol!!
Although, judging by what you said about your Allods spending, I suspect a degree of pay-to-win gouging that would horrify 99.9% of gamers, would not even be noticeable to you. :-)
eq2 and lotro are miles better than either game, although I liked RoM's class system.
