Should the large patches include more land mass ?

I'm like Rift so far.  My highest level is only 33 but I'm enjoying the journey.  So I'm no expert on end game content.

It seems as Trion is doing there part with giving large patches. BUT should they be giving us more starting zones and increasing there land mass ?

Sorry to use WoW as an example but a large part Blizzard's success is that they released Vanilla WoW with six starting zones, multiple questing zones to choose from all the way to end.  I understand that Trion went in the direction of quality instead of quantity and that was nice.  But any outsider can see that retaining of players is there largest downfall.

Rift has heavy shoes to fill.  WoW is the major competitor, well over one hundred mmo's to compete, cost are higher to make games, and players now max leveling mmo's in just a few days.

The last patch gives level 50 players more to accomplish on a personal level, but I think more land mass is more important.   Rift is a good game but I can't help but think that they will forever be playing catch up with land mass, yet they are not doing it ( yet ).

Do you put new content is starting areas or end game ?......This is a problem they will always have because Rift was not released with wayyy more content from the start.  Because of this Rift could never be a WoW killer.....Hypotecitly speeking... with a new zone added each week, players would chew it up and spit it out in just a few short days.

Rift certainly isn't alt-friendly by any means but I don't think that was ever really something TW was going for, hence only having four classes. I'll agree the world is small but what you'll find as you level more is that the world of Telara is (at this point) for people leveling. Once you hit 50 it becomes all Stillmore and Shimmersand (perhaps some IPP) and instances, instances, instances- aside from the disgusting PvP grind all item progression comes from raids. T1 gear is training wheels for T2, T2 is training wheels for raids. If you don't raid your PvE progression is over.

Rift is a raiding game as far as endgame PvE is concerned and that's all instanced. With a blazingly fast trip from 1-50 that's nigh impossible to slow down TW is best suited to add as much for players to do at 50 rather than the minute amount of time players will spend in the rest of the world.

TL;DR- no, unless it's more level 50 zones and rifts/invasions reward tier-level loot.

with the v1.6 patch coming in october trion will add a new island. during the gamescom in cologne trion told us that they will add a complete new continent in size of the current existing landmass in q1/2012 and that they are working on 'housing'.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the future.  Large overlands with lots of questing really targets the alt-a-holics like myself.  Raid content is for those who cap and work to stay current on the high end.

With Rift being at least moderately balanced on the two, I'm sure that's in the plans.

Trion is using that time and resource to make more dungeons (master mode, Chronicles) etc because that's what it's playerbase wants, raiding.

They aren't really interested in more starting zones because they've already got four or more alts already for the most part.

Now that AA is in, maxed players will just do quests/grinding for that and leave alts alone, which I'm sure Trion is happy about because it gives them time for new zones next year. (I seriously doubt they put in new starting zones this year.. requires new races, gears, etc)

    Honestly Rift isnt alt friendly.

With the new attunement system you can work on your main calling for a long time. at max farming crafting, rift rep, expert dungeons, farming expert/raid rifts for essences... so much to work on you really dont want more than two callings...

Personally I have two level 50 callings (Cleric/Rogue) defiant side & the other two callings mid level on guardian side.

I havent once wished for more zones in the 1-40ish areas.

My complaint lies with only three high level zones thankfully a new continent will fix this.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing
