First, I can only laugh at by how much companies hype and exaggerate their games. According to that video, I have to assume that I can fly with my spaceship everywhere I want to, visiting hundreds of completly different worlds and explore them all, beeing busy for decades. XD
And second: I'm no expert on star wars, but shouldn't lightsabres cut through most stuff with ease? How can combat requiring lightsabres and other highly developed weapons take that long? It's like they are wacking each other with softly padded sticks and throwing at each other with cotton balls.
Well not everyone is dying to play this, but many are. Why? It's Star Wars!!! That's reason enough. Write Star Wars on it, and people buy it. Second: HYPE! By players and partially bought magazines. Third: exaggeration by the company about every aspect on the game.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's not even available yet so how should I know. But I can definately say that it won't be as good as the company and magazines and it's fans promise.
The above statement sums it perfectly. Although there are many similar mechanics, not for one minute while playing did I think of WOW. Granted I only played WOW for 3-4 months. I don't like the high fantasy setting. Technically I'm not in beta but in the spirit of the NDA I won't get specific, but combat system feels much different than any MMO I've played. Quite honestly, the game plays more like KOTOR Than anything else, just you get to play with other people.
"Its basic WoW quests with voice. Go fetch this and go kill that inbetween all that you have to sit there listiening to boring dialoge. Plus the story isn't really that compelling at all." ^^^This is what Viktor posted most recently. Now, please tell me where Viktor is giving an objective opinion in that post about SWTOR being a standard MMO. Aside from him being wrong about the quests (they are anything but "standard"), the phrases "boring dialogue and "isn't really that compelling at all" doesn't exactly sound like someone just trotting out a non-biased opinion about it being a standard MMO, does it?
Victor's posts may be a bit extreme, however I'm not sure they can be written off completely.
That said, I have seen other opinions that mimic Victors, from people who have actually played the game. Their opinions may not be as overly negative, but they do say many of the same key things. To some people the game just doesn't play like a next-gen game. It's fun, and for what it is they enjoy it, but it does have some standard 'WoW-like' quests in the game, just not as part of the main storyline. Or, while doing the main storyline quests, they are hidden as bonus objectives, which is fine.
Keep in mind that Bioware has made it crystal clear that they have adopted WoW's model, and are adjusting it with their own style of game design. What this means is that for people who love Bioware (not just KOTOR, but also DA2), you're probably going to enjoy the game for a while. For others, the WoW model that this game is built on may just be too prevailant to overlook. Bioware does it's best to mask a lot of this with the personal stories, voice acting, moral choices, and companions. I don't think anyone is seriously doubting that they are doing a stellar job with this. However, as to the other aspects of the game, not everyone likes it. That's just how it is.
To make things clear, I'm probably going to be playing the game myself after the holidays. However, I'd be lying if I said there were no parts of the game I had concerns over. I believe it will definitely be a fun game, and with no real alternatives released atm that should be enough for me. However, don't expect that to apply to everyone.
Hopefully, when they lift the NDA, some of the feedback from beta can be maid public. That should clear up most of the controversy, though it might not all be what everyone is expecting.
Really and you based this conclusion because I found lots of faults with the game and others havent ? You are the best! Let me break it down for ya.. Its basic WoW quests with voice. Go fetch this and go kill that inbetween all that you have to sit there listiening to boring dialoge. Plus the story isn't really that compelling at all.
You think GW2 quest feature is something developed from scratch? It's been done and it's not new at all. I mean taking another games feature and making it their own is hardly original. Oh, wait that seems to be one of the industry standards now, taking another games feature and polishing it up and making it better.
Apparently the General does not believe in pants. Instead he apparently just smears mustard all over his legs and buttox. Im gonna go throw up now.

I dont think the game looks BAD but honestly im back and forth about if itll be fun or not. The combat has always looked uninspired and thats a shame because I remember bioware talking it up saying "the combat will be epic" when it is anything but. And lets face it, mmo's are majority combat and not much else on the side so when it comes down to it youre doing something very unepic for most of the play time. Everything else does look great though from the worlds to space to the characters to the dialogue in my opinion. But the combat is not epic, the combat im sorry to say leaves much to be desired and less to look forward to.
So I'm watching the gameplay, and the graphics remind me of WoW... and the combat looks like WoW but even slower... and everyone(almost) is using a lightsaber...
I don't get why everyone is dying to play this.. I mean I wanted to but after seeing the gameplay, doesn't it look somewhat boring? I'm not bashing the game or anything since I've been wanting to play it myself and trying to keep up with some news/updates on it. But it now does look like a Sci-Fi-WoW-With-Lightsabers to me.. even the laser show looks stupid to me.. ugh

You think GW2 quest feature is something developed from scratch? It's been done and it's not new at all. I mean taking another games feature and making it their own is hardly original. Oh, wait that seems to be one of the industry standards now, taking another games feature and polishing it up and making it better.
Please enlighten us all then. What other MMO has dynamic "quests" that can be joined on the fly by any number of people, with content that scales to the number of players taking part in it, has multiple outcomes dependant on the actions of those participating and which set off other multiple chains of events which alter things like available dynamic events in the area, what mobs are available to fight, and which NPCs are available, how they will act, and what they have available for sale. Add in the point reward system allowing you to choose your own rewards after accumulating points vs the standard being given X item for completing X task wether that item is of any use to you or not.
Its a pretty far cry from just "polishing" something up. No other MMO has featured all of what dynamic events offers in 1 package, they have only had bits and pieces of it. Arenanet is giving you a Lexus packed with luxury features at the cost of a Geo Metro, while everyone else is selling you a stripped down 10 year old used Metro that they threw a new paint job on and trying to convince you that it should cost the same as a Lexus and also require a monthly fee to keep it running.
I have seen other opinions that mimic Victors, from people who have actually played the game.
What proof do you have that these individuals have played the game?
Just tossing an opinion up on an internet forum, and then claiming that one has played in a shallow attempt to try and back up that opinion, does not make it any more true.
The point is that it's strictly heresay. You have no real way of knowing whether these individuals have legitimately played the game or not, unless you were standing right beside them at a convention or have some kind of RL association with these people.
Finally, the ONLY quests that are standard MMO fare in SWTOR are the BONUS QUESTS. They have nothing to do with your story, and nothing to do with the average quests you will experience during the course of leveling a character, be it with friends or not.

Warhammer Online and Champions Online, and they were called Public Quest. Again a feature already in other games, GW2 is doing nothing more than polishing it up and making it better, and giving it another name.
Isnt that what any of us want.. To make a solid game.. polish it up and make it better. Example..
EQ.. If they put in a new engine and made the game better, by adding some of the more popular aspects of the current MMOs.. EQ would be fantastic.

Like i said, other games have only had pieces of it. things like PQs in WAR were static, not dynamic. They never changed no matter what you or anyone else did. It was the same exact 3 stage cycle, same mobs to kill, same outcome, and win or lose nothing in or around it changed. It simply started a reset timer and 2 minutes later the same exact thing happened all over again. They were no different than normal quests except for the fact that mu;tiple people could contribute to winning, wether they were in a party or not. Static content, static rewards, and no impact on anything outside of it. PQs didnt effect other PQs, or nearby mobs, towns, and NPCs in any way.
The biggest impact having dynamic content vs static is going to have is that every time you play the game it could be different than the last time. Not just with a new character, but with the same character. You might visit a zone one day, and then come back a few days alter and its nothing like it was before. In a game like WAR you could run through a zone a thousand times and it would be the same each time. Thats not just adding polish, thats a whole new class of gameplay & replayability.
