If PlanetSide was released now and not 8 years ago, it would still sweep people of thier feet. It was way ahead of its time, and now the average computer build will be able to handle it.
I'm really excited for Planetside 2. I think poor launch days are a thing of the past after many would-be successfull games have recently failed due to them forcing game to be ready for launch before everything is smoothed out.
I absolutley love the free-range conquest. Can not wait to get with my best friends and take over the world
Well , MAG is a smaller scale ps2. It had horrible ping issue with other countries. Like getting killed behind walls which was frustrating. Then the worst of them all were the lag peddler. I hope they just listen and adjust OP weapons used by less skilled players before players start leaving.
Mag was probably a testbed for ps2 as zipper said they were using sony's technology.?

If I'm not mistaken it was a Playstation 3 only title? I can only assume "using sony's technology" refers to the developmental tools one is required to use when developing PS3 games. There is nothing shared between these games. The Forgelight engine is developed by Sony Online Entertainment and isn't a part of Sony Playstation, they just are under the same corporate umbrella.
The thing that killed planetside 1 for me was there was no insentive to defend, because it was just easier to attack another undefended base. So the factions after a time were just chasing each others tails. It also made finding a good sized battle very difficult.
PS1 was an Epic game. I honestly can't remember another game that gave me so many amazing memories. I started the game on day 1 and loved it. Lag was definitely an issue though.
I am pretty sure that the EVE model has resolved the Lag issue. Although i can tell you that i have witnessed lag on EVE. During a Zerosec fleet event we had about 100 ship per side in an amazing Jumpgate battle and there as definitely some lag there.
I have been back to PS1 recently and was in many battles with over 100 people in it and it was great. I feel confident that they will be able to work through that.
In the meantime i am counting down the minutes until i can once again strap on a MAX and tear some stuff up.
You know you do the following as you should do with EVERY new MMO coming out
1. fasten Seatbelts and get ready for some massive disappointment when the new starting game is lagging, crashing and outright buggy, hold breath till you made sure that the above is absent.
2. check personal hypemeter and do regula reality-check to normalize expectations, if you find harsh diffrences consider lowering your standarts as they might be off the scale.
3. IF you preorderd of are going with the first pile of testpilots for the new game after beta, be sure you payed it from surplus cash you can afford to waste.

If you liked what MAG did on the console then you'll almost certainly like Planetside 2.

I hope they have a good fix for this in P2.

They did say they "Hope" there is no box fee. I would be willing to drop some cash on a box though.
No they said it will be a free download in one of the recent interviews.
