Last week I bought DC Universe Online knowing it was going F2P simply because I couldnt wait any longer. Ive had my eye on this game since its release and now have the money to blow on some games, so I thought why not this one right? Well in the video youll se my initial thoughts on the game, how it plays, simple aspects of it, etc before launch of the new F2P model.
After the launch of the F2P model I will do a follow up First Impressions of DCUO to compare the models in which you get to choose, then review it soon after. So much DCUO coming to my channel along with some War Of The Immortals and World Of Tanks.
Game Description: "Featuring heroes like Batman, Superman, as well as villains like The Joker and Brainiac, from the DC comics universe, DCUO will allow players to create their own superhero or villain. These player characters will fight (or wreak havoc) alongside these iconic characters, as well as interact in an open, urban environment. Noted comics artist Jim Lee is the Executive Creative Director."-MMORPG.com

If you enjoy the video make sure you subscribe! And as always I got a question for yeah!
Question Of The Video:
Why do you think the PC population of DCUO died and the PS3 version did not? Give your thoughts in the comment section below or on youtube in the comment section below the video!
Thanks for reading/watching!

Because it is too shallow for the PC market.
Thats a great insight.

That's seriously up there with the folks who pre-ordered Going Rogue to have access to Dual Pistols and Demon masterminds 2 months early, then whined because their version of the game didn't come with all of the perks of the full retail version. Also reminds me of the folks who bought lifetime subs to CO so they could get into the Star Trek Online beta. Actually, come to think of it, I hope that's just an odd coincidence rather than a trait of superhero mmo players.....hmmm.
I had the money and now ill have premium forever, so it wasnt that bad. Plus I had 40$ on credit at Gamestop. Im not even slightly dissapointed with my purchase right now. And im not a super hero MMO player, this is the first ive spent more than 2 hours in lol. Solid game tho.
All my pals that were pumped for it at launch assured me it was a solid game too.
Less than a month later none of them were still playing. Food for thought.
Geowash and other people buying the game right now won't have that experience though because it will be free by the end of their first month. They won't appreciate the people who were annoyed to buy a game and sub for something so shallow..... I'm hoping at least he didn't pay more than $15.00 though, although if he's happy with money he put down on it, the more power to him.
Yeah in a month tho it will be F2P.
You make me seem like the devil. Yes I understand the game had a rough launch and the population suffered for it. I payed 40$ for the box, which isnt that bad for a game now a days that is this solid and polished. Yes the game had bugs, shallowness, and a rough launch, but its on its F2P launch part of its life that will make many return, and love the game even more. I understand where you are coming from, but im not the devil.
Why did the population become so low quickly after launch? Because it's a half hearted, shallow button basher much more suited for consoles than as a PC MMO. Believe it or not some people still have standards when it comes to which MMO will get their subscription fee.
The 30 days free with the box is more than enough to see everything this game has to offer, even for casual players.
I wouldn't characterize you as devilish, but a fool and his money do part quickly.
Any game for the most part the first 30days can show about how the game is for the long run. Personally this is the first MMO I felt a story in, but the story makes the game very linear which is why I will agree it was better suited for consoles. Although I think the game will flourish under the F2P model.
Well the thing is im not in any budget situation... all my bills are paid and I like gaming... more importantly I like DC and have been looking at this game for quite some time, so with the fact that I had 40$ of credit on my Gamestop acc, it was a why not? Situation.
So what the OP is saying is... they just bought a game right now that they defended at launch as being "SOLID" at least a "7/10". Mind you, this was the same launch that people left in DROVES over. The same launch that was buggy, unplayable, and completely bungled.
My question would be: How are these "official first impressions" when it was implied by the January post that it was a "solid" game? Either there was an un-truth before or an un-truth now. This is why I never trust reviews.
I didnt make a first impressions video back then because I was on my friends account and I didnt have the channel I do now. This is the first video I have done for this game. You got to understand its a solid game, it was a tad buggy at launch, but even Total Halibut thinks its solid. Its just linear which is why people left in mass numbers... look at Aion for example... many of my buds left because the linearness of the world, but that didnt bother me. With in a couple months that game was really dead, server merges happened, and NC Soft kept going on developement. DCUO is following the same path, they arnt giving up because the developers know they did a good job.
True, but then most MMO's appeal to a wide audience past the 30 days enough to make them at least sub for a month or two, DCUO couldn't even do that. When i say 30 days was enough to see everything it had to offer I meant it literally as in by that time you've already done it all so no point in subbing. I'm not sure how it is now as its been quite some time since i played but content wise at launch it barely had more than a single player game.
It probably will do a bit better with F2P but i don't expect it to suddenly turn into an amazing game full of people. Unless they've hugely improved it there'll be a burst, but i doubt many will stick with it. Champions Online was better than it by a fair margin and it certainly isn't perfect.
If only we could slot City of Heroes into DCUO's graphics, then we'd have a great superhero MMO
I agree that City Of Heroes with DCUOs graphics would be great. I know they have made some new content, but I think considering this games quality, it will do good in the F2P market, but since it is a tad linear, it will not have the AoC F2P effect.
I think start to finish 1-30 was about a week and a half (not completely overboard playing) and then another couple of days doing the in between stuff to get gear/raid/etc. Even with the review time estimates of the extra content, you're still only talking about 3 weeks of casual play. (catwoman, light, the fortress of solitude, etc)
It's SOE... it's F2P will either be good or bad. No way to tell until the info is announced.
It certainly DIDN'T help the game to have the PSN fiasco go down in the middle of it's most important period.
I agree, SOE already announced some of the F2P things like char slots, bag slots, etc, but not whats in the item mall. That will either make or break the F2P move. I would assume it will have the same hybrid that AoC and LoTRO have. And yeah PSN is a huge issue they need to have fixed for the F2P launch.
Yea but F2P from AoC isn't working.
F2P from LOTRO is working (though I'm not sure to what degree since ROI).
I would be inclined to think that if SOE works it more towards the LOTRO/DDO and less towards AoC we should be ok. The LAST thing they want is to hang people up at specific levels. (say 10 or 15 for DCUO) And as always, if they do ANYTHING P2W, people will cry foul and that'll be that.
Ehhh AoC has a ton more players than it did, which I would call working, although i think they could have given the F2P more before they have to pay. LoTRO and DDO have the best model there is for a P2P going F2P.
Problem is, the content is so well done its hard to make more quick enough. They have voice overs for everything and great story archs and boss fights. Most MMOs can kinda just phone in new content and promise new gear for you to grind out and it will work.
If you're a more casual player this game is amazing, but if you expect a 40hr a week hardcore MMO than this is not the game for you at this time.
I dont get why people say that, in AoC you can level to max with quests and dungeons without paying a cent. In LOTRO you have to buy quest packs past level 20 or else grind endlessly.
Ive never experienced the grind in Lotro...
Actually you nailed it in the video: this game is great for when you come home from work and just want to unwind. It can't support the super-involved playstyle that comes with most PC MMOs, so if you play it that way you'll burn out after a month. That also means it really wasn't worth a monthly subscription, but that issue is now finally rectified. The F2P/shop model will fit the game much better.
What makes this "official"?
"official" in what capacity?
