I've not played an MMO since Star Trek Online last year. I've not really been deep into an MMO since I stopped playing EVE around 2007. Been waiting for an MMO with a story as good as a single player RPG and I really hope SWTOR is that game.

Don't expect people to agree with you, though. Most MMO players have shown themselves to be chumps who will defend their broken systems to the end (eg. Subscription model, generic raid-raid-raid endgame, grinding, trinity class system).

On topic: I won't be playing SWTOR.

That being said, I can answered your hypOthetical question. I am guessing that games like RIFT will be the hardest hit.

I love how you believe you are so far more intelligent than everyone else that you feel you can speak for all other players.  Must be very enlightening to be you.  Fact is, there are plenty of reasons to prefer subscription-based games, and it doesn't take a genius to see why they are popular.

But continue lecturing us.  It amuses me.

Just been playing single player games for now...none of theme really last more than 2 weeks.

I won't be "giving up" anything to play it.  I realize that I can work for 20 minutes and pay for my subscription.

I play what I want/like to play.  If I think having a 4th MMO sub because it's fun to play for a couple hours a week, I'll get it.  Ya'all livin on the streets?  $15/mo isn't much at all, not eve $60/mo is much - considering you pay $140/mo for cable/inet service and $100/mo for cell phone service.  I doubt you get as much entertainment out of your cell phone as you do a couple MMO subs.

Even people on welfare are able to afford multiple subs - stop acting like it's such a big deal, cheap skates.

Back to the subject, I will be giving up Rift.  It is a great game and my hat is off to Trion for being the most amazing MMO developer I have seen, but I just can't resist the lure of a Bioware MMO.  Combining my favorite developer of all time with an awesome IP like Star Wars is like.... ehhh... a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.  You know, chocolate and peanut butter coming together...... ah to hell with it.

Lol, you realize that when enough people use bad grammar it eventually becomes good grammar? I fear how any language will be spelled in 20 years due to cellphones. ;)

But you shouldn't get angry at people for spelling wrong on a international forum, most people here have English as their second language.

I made a 30day nostalgia tour thru AoC but i have already stopped playing after ten days anyway bcs my need for nostalgia was pleased enough.
Havent played any mmo months b4 that and wont play until SWTOR hits.
TSW is on the radar too, so maybe, if both be good i end up playing two mmos.

As there is no option to vote "not currently playing" i voted hybrid for the few days left of my aoc 1 month sub.

If both SWTOR and TSW fail...maybe i will play a Fifa 12 Online i havent played a good football game for long long time - my last title is 20 years back...

And do a much better job of using it compared to most native speakers :)

I really never feel that way. I pay a cable bill every month, that doesn't make me feel the need to watch it all that often. When I want to watch it, it's there. Same thing with an MMO when I want it, it's there.

MMO's are pretty cheap when we're talking on a day to day basis, as long as I'm getting a few dollars worth of enjoyment a week, there's really nothing for me personally to complain about.

Oh noesss, a random forum guy on internet called me a chump because i prefer subscription model for MMOS. This certainly ruined my entire day.

None at the moment. But I expect I'd have to give up putting time in Skyrim at Swtor launch. (Not that it matters as that game only gets better with some time on the shelf due to all those players making mods for it).

Err, that would be Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.

Dont plan to actually unsubscribe Vanguard, though.

Especially since it seems as if SW:TOR is so much behind in quality (other that story, which I expect to be brilliant) that I will go back to Vanguard pretty quick.

Especially the class design doesnt look too strong (lack of variance, also thanks to the setting), resulting in lack of challenge.

Also, group size is definitely much too small, crafting seem to lack any challenge, and overall the game appears to have been created by WoW fanbois resulting in too many things, including bad ideas like completely reconfigurable classes, instanced battlegrounds, realm vs realm etc, imported from WoW.

I really dont mind if you import great ideas from other games, including WoW, but the mentioned ones are just bad.

I whole heartedly agree with you. I believe it would be even better if Bioware learns a thing or two from SOE on how to run a quality MMO like Vanguard. Bioware is so behind, it is amazing.

None, I haven't played an MMORPG since Earthrise released sometime early this year since then there's been nothing worth playing/trying (not that ER was) until now!!!!!

Currently playing Rift and enjoying it more than any other game since the first days of Asherons Call. So I'm not sure I'll actually give up Rift for Star Wars. The game certainly needs to be good to keep me playing past that first month and causing me to quit Rift.

Another one feeling the lack of a "none" option here.

Does any MMO really prevent us from playing other games? Almost all the gamers I know will play SPGs and co-op games alongside their primary MMO, and they often have a back-up MMO that they stay subbed to in case they feel like a change of mood / pace.

I'm not subbed to anything right now, and I'm sure I'll still have time to play other games when SWTOR comes out. Whether I'll want to play them is another story - but the great thing about SPGs is that they only get better with time and patches (and mods) so letting them grow awhile before playing them doesn't leave you at any kind of disadvantage.

I don't ever see gaming choices as either/or. I see them more as "now" and "later" image

The biggest problem with your logic is that you think the 'later' will happen for ANY games. :P

I'm still in WoW after 6 years and my latest 6month subscription expires on Thursday December the 22nd !! If this is not an omen then i don't know what is.

I won't cancel my WoW account though since i will check on the next expansion. Of course then my WoW play status will be a super casual one.

I'll put WAR on hold for as many months as TOR interests me. I have some misgivings over how long it can retain my interest, but it'd be a shame not to check out one of the more anticipated upcoming games.

I have played SWTOR... No plans to play it further.

Sticking with WoW. I am ready for 4.3!

I'm currently playing EQ2 and not likely to switch to anything else until SWTOR comes out, though if I stick to my plan I won't join SWTOR until next spring.

Same here but before TOR releases I am going to buy all the quest packs I need so I never have to pay a dime on DDO again, at least not for content (I bet you DDO has a big sale on packs before SWTOR releases because they know they will take a small VIP sub hit).  Will be playing both DDO and SWTOR, and dropping LOTRO.

Playing DDO now  and paying a sub for it . I will drop that since time is my greatest enemy , I cannot afford the time for two games.
