TERA: Compass Points at Alpha Coming Soon

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

According to a new post on the TERA EU forums, the game is nearing its alpha phase of development. Frogster EU Community Manager "Raven" indicated that testing will initially begin internally and quite small.

During the first alpha stage, we’ll invite a small amount of community members, which will beaded to our internal testers. This new alpha stage will be completely under NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement)."

After the initial testing, more and more players will be added to the pool over time.

I'm confused, wasn't this game already released in another region?  I don't think you can go back to alpha stage just for localization changes, well not and have the word mean anything.

Or are they making major changes for the western version?

hopefully, this game has already been abandoned by the masses in asia for being just like every other game out there

TERA has been released in Korea. It is being localized in NA by En Masse Entertainment and in the EU by Frogster. Both are also working to give the game a more "Western appeal". The alpha version of the game will be released in the EU by Frogster. The NA will be released by En Masse but nothing has yet been published by them about an alpha stage, I believe.

Some info about the NA Alpha.

"Alpha is also one of our main focuses at the moment. We have employees playing on the live server now and have had “live operation support” for several weeks. Up next for alpha will be practicing hotfix and regular client updating with the Operations, QA, CS, and Community teams.

I know most of you are eager to hear about the next phase of alpha and how you can be a part of it. We will be extending our internal testing to select partners and external users over the upcoming weeks. Please note that at this time we are selecting the users internally, so if you don’t receive an invite, don’t worry—there will be more opportunities to come! Keep being awesome and contributing, and know that we will regularly add people in batches throughout Fall."

I am confused as well. The EU version is coming out before the NA version. Looks like En Masse dropped the ball on this one.

not being a troll or anything but this game sucked....i playe korean version for a month and it has no potential at all compared to every other game out there coming out. Theres nothing much they can do to make it "western"

Grats to Frogster on the project.  Good luck with progress.

I was under the impression that En Masse were doing the westernisation. Frogster is then taking the westernised game and producing localised translations into the European languages. Therefore if the EU is near it's alpha phase then surely so is the US?

is gonna be released too late imo , by the time its released in US/EU , no1 will remember wtf tera is....

Well, since my last experience with Frogster was in TCoS (The Chronicles of Spellborn), and Acclaim (US), I wish the Europeans the best of luck...They are going to need it.  Given that Frogster and Acclaim dropped the ball so badly, that the game (and later Acclaim) went out of business, picking Frogster wouldn't have been my choice for Tera...

That's right it's EME that is doing the westernization. With Frogster taking the westernize version and localizing it for the Euro market.

BHS gave the original Korean Client to EME to westernize. EME took it and wanted to do some things different than the Korean Version. So this different version is what they call Alpha, and will be tested this fall.

Looks like they will be testing at around the same time:

Alpha testing phase for NA:  http://www.tera-online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23141

People complain they wanta game to release now but when it released unfinshed then  they complain, I'm a bit lost here, make up your minds, gamers are the worst sometimes, there worse than an Old lady, they never know what they want.

Alpha as alpha testing or are we talking about something else here? Because it does sound odd to do alpha testing for an already released product.

Unless we are talking about alpha testing the localization...

Ya I have to agree with some of you, played the game for a month (Korean version) and it really has nothing special about it.  I mean there's some unique things but they're not enough to hold you into a monthly sub.  They'd have to do some pretty amazing things to make it happen, and I just don't see it.  Good luck to them though.

From what I've heard about the Korean release, is it was released way too early... MMO audiences are not nearly as patient now, as they have been in the past. Lets hope they take the time to get it right. We REALLY do not need another crash and burn MMO like Final Fantasy 14...

People need to stop buying into their marketing bull****.

The game is designed for the western audience from the start, once it goes live over here it will be identical to the Korean version because to date, all the nice things they think westerners need in the game have been added to the Korean version as well.

I'm really looking forward to this, but expectations must be managed.

This whole "westernization" is just a ploy. They wait with release so Koreans can add enough content so the game won't burn at release.

There isn't a combination of words I hate...no, dislike more than coming+soon. Put a date on it or gtfo.
Brings back memories of NCSoft's usage of "soon".
