Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Small complaints about the UI, you would think these would have been fixed by now.

So I have been with Square Enix for many years, I stuck with FF11 for 7 years. I know how SE is with bringing updates out. So With FF14 I tried it for 7 months back, got bored after 2 weeks of play but now I returned actually today after the large update and hearing that the game was at open beta quality. The thing that I hate the most is the UI, in just about any game you play the first thing you are going to notice is the UI and sometimes the UI will decided if you want to play the game or not sometimes but not always.

So this game has been out for a year now and so the UI should be working right well I saw that they added a feature to configure the keyboard! only instead of SE doing what just about every other mmo game on the planet does, they make it complicated, example: I want to open my inventory with the letter "B", Sorry this key is already in use. Ok..... So now if you were playing any other mmo it would allow you to change the key and what would happen is that whatever B was assigned to would just be reset and not have any key assigned to that function. Well here in FF14, you have to find whatever B is assigned to, give it some other key so that you can then go to assign B to whatever function you want. Explaining this is a bit complicated, trying to configure is complicated and well I am not even going to bother going through the trouble and configuring my key board. I will have to wait till they update this keyboard configure feature, Knowing Square-enix this will take them several years.

Also there still isn’t an option to “Un-equip All” on abilities? I want to redo my action bar, do I really need to individually un-equip each action?

Other things, still cannot use the graphics configuration in game, you have to log out to fiddle with the stuff which is a Minor inconvenience.

Still not allowed to add mods to this game, would love a custom UI that works.

I was quite happy with the FFXI UI,many complained about that as well, however i found it was the player not the UI,they just couldn't fathom anything different than WOW.

As for add on mods, that is one area i do not like what so ever, i find it is just players wanting  the game to play it self. They want map markers to tell them exactly where quests answers are, they want anything that is borderline cheating or outright cheating.

I liked it better having to goto a moghouse or better yet a real house would be nice to change professions.I don't like anything on the fly,it chepaens the class system.I also liked using macros all they needed to do was perhaps add 2-4 more lines per macro.

I also do not like that instant warp to leves bs,really i saw the direction Square was moving in way back in FFXI days,it is not a good one. They are trying to turn a "fun ride" into an easy mode gaming,Wow style.I did not want to see anything close to dailies or Leves.

Crafting is one area that i sort of liked in that FFXI was a bit unique however it did need improving.Turning it into a dependent on other players is not an improvement that is a horrible design flaw, one they should have learned from FFXI.That design is a perfect flaw to attract MORE RMT activity, something we need to rid all games of.

Square uses far too many clicks to do the simplest things, and when i am in a npc convo that i find out i want out of,i should be able to just walk away without having to do more clicks.

The no AH idea was total bs i have no idea where that dumb thought came from, when i see ideas like that ,i know there is total dumb asses running the game that i want no part of.

IMO FFXIV was a game that was never meant to happen.I believe it was a response to the many requests by players to update the graphics. There is no money in it for Square just updating graphics,so they tried to rush a new game into production to warrant attaining yet more money.

IMO Square used up all their creativity in FFXI and has just run out of good ideas. What they should have done is just update the graphics, switch the game over to a new game engine and introduce subtle things like housing/under water swimming/jumping/climbing and just tweak the over all game. Now they ruined ffxi so bad i will never play it again and FFXIV is a design i will never play,a great developer gone south.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

That's all well and good Wiz, but that has nothing to do with what they were asking?

Yes, but Wiz did answer alot of questions I had about the game. Teleporting to instanced material and class changes on the fly throw up red flags for me as I was considering trying the game.  Not so sure now.

Yea, this is one of my big gripes with the game when trying to play with keyboard/mouse. I have to find keys that aren't set up yet to use as placeholders and work around it, which is a pain in the rear.

The next patch is making it so each class has there hotbars saved, so no more redoing them.

Lazy job on SE's part, keeping the client the same as the console version. Wish they'd build it in.

Custom UI's IMO ruin a game. Unless you go through fansites and download a lot of add-ons, your gonna be at a disadvantage compared to those who do. Keep the game in the game, without relying on outside sources.
