Right now lvling up in game is VERY easy. It will be easier in GoD update. You cn buy armours and weapons in shop up to A grade. You can buy common items which cost like 1/10th of normal items. All those things make L2 a game which is very easy to lvl up and gear for a long time. At very high lvls you will need to grind and earn a lot of money, but before that it's a different game people remember. In next update they will add Auction house and make lvling even easier so I would say people who treat L2 as the biggest grinder ever should give it a try. A lot has changed and will change soon.

I am all for this if NC Soft can do this right. I mean there are only 2 choices for an aging mmo and thats either die or go free to play and I would much rather the 2nd option. Oh well, we will see.

It is about time they did this. L2 has been a game that has been begging to go free 2 play for years now. I would love replay all the low level areas again with a highly populated server like it was at launch. Those were good times before it turned into a grindfest.

It turned into a grindfest? you're kidding right? L2 was the biggest grindfest ever at start. It was unbearably slow up to c4 (I stopped playing some time after c4).

It's actually LESS Asian (grind) oriented. They added a lot of stuff to help level up faster like the vitality system and newbee buffs (up to level 75 you get them) and no teleport fees up to level 40. Level 1 to 40 is now only 6 hours if you do your best. I heard of players hitting 80 in 2 months.
Gear... Up to C-grade, all is in the stores. Lower B-grade and mid A-grade are available in the luxerous store. Shots are available up to B-grade in stores (though it's still cheaper to craft them) and arrows are available up to A-grade (there went the Warsmith's source of income...)
Then changes in the sub-class system... No more need to kill those 4 raidbosses, poke Baium and ditch a top B-grade item anymore. Now you can use the territory war system, get 100 badges from one territory and just exchange for noblesse on level 76 (buy your self a noble title) and pick a subclass after that.

Actually, I think all those private servers out there kinda killed Lineage II. I even dare to bet that the (active) community of all those combined private servers, the Asian official servers and (the small addidion of) the 2 NC West servers rivals the total WoW community...
Without all those private servers, Lineage II (for the Western market) would be in a much healthier state as it is now, and no F2P thought would have taken place in the first time...
Actually I think F2P will be great because private servers really are in some cases better versions, easier to level, they didnt take on their server some of the worst mechanics NC implemented, with this EU launch I can see a lot of private server ppl moving into the official. This wont be F2P at the end of the day ppl will play for the premium stuff and I am alright with it, at least its a legit way to speed up leveling and focus on the political content and castle sieges which is what private servers were all about.
I really hope tho they dont make the mistake of allow characters transfers from NA to EU.
I am pretty excited about this, I loved playing Lineage 2, but after a while I left because of new titles. Anyways I am gona try it, I hope they wont get greedy and make the game p2w, because even sub is better than that, and that would just turn me off l2 forever. Anyways lets hope they do it the right way.
Looks like all the TRASH that plays on freeshards gonna move to Retail. Omg downfall of l2 even more . Stupid failsoft still dont realise the major problem were the heavy infested world of bots.
